At poultry judging practice, you'll learn how to look inside an egg without ever breaking the shell and what it means if a bird has yellow pigment on the bottom of her feet. In addition to learning about all things poultry, you will also get the chance to develop better public speaking skills through delivering oral reasons. Hope to see you there! Contact Sarah Giordano: sarahgiordano@verizon.net, 443-824-7861 or Glenn Haines Cattle and Swine RFID Tags Anyone who is planning on showing cattle or swine will need to make sure you have official RFID tags. Some notable rules are no plastic fins and no prebuilt kits. To place orders or for questions, contact Carol Viney at MrsViney@yahoo.com or call 443-414-7834. As in past years, after the competition, we will have a fun launch. Children s Day at the Fair Tuesday, August 1, 2017 June 15 th, 2017 Attention all 4-H and all FFA clubs! Fair season is coming around the corner and will be here before you know it! Like in years past, the fair will host children s day on Tuesday, August 1 st, from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm and we need your help! In previous years, more than 1100 children have attended this event at the Carroll County Fair, and this success has been due to the participation of 4-H clubs, members, and volunteers! We want to make this the best year yet, so we ask that you consider contributing again, or even for the first time! Since the fair theme is Learning Today, Leading Tomorrow, we d love to have clubs sign up to lead activities, and help children from around the county to learn about agriculture! We are asking that clubs sign up for a make-it and take-it craft table as in the past, or a game station! The tables or stations can be 2 hour, 4 hour, or all day time slots. Clubs could run a ringtoss game, paint faces, make magnets, etc. If your club chooses to sign up for a craft, we ask that you would prepare these crafts for either 250 participants (2 hour time slot) or 500 participants (4 hours or more). When preparing these games and crafts, we ask that you keep agriculture, farming, and 4-H in mind. This is your chance to help educate the children of our county, so we want to make sure that there will be learning taking place as well as fun! Remember that these activities should engage our youth and encourage them to stay for the day! If you or your club would like to help with children s day, but cannot attend that day, we are also looking for donations! You could provide a monetary donation, a donation for goodie bags, or items such as face paints, crayons, etc. If you could help us in any capacity, we will greatly appreciate your donations! Also, if you d simply like to come volunteer for an hour, or even the whole day, we d love to have you! This is a great opportunity to earn service hours and have fun at the same time! I hope that your club will be able to participate in some way, as it will be a wonderful opportunity to promote and educate young children and their families about the great 4-H program and agriculture here in Carroll County! Please contact Karey Howes at klhowes@carrollk12.org or 443-398-1327 by July 15 th to reserve your time slot or offer your services. Please supply your club s name, a time preference, a contact person, an email or phone number, and what you or your club would like to do. The times will be from 8:30-10:30, 10:30-12:30, and 11:30-2:00. Thank you so much for your time, and I look forward to hearing from you and working with you! With Gratitude, Karey Howes Karey Howes Children s Day Chairperson
