Congratulations Graduates Cass County Extension and Cass County Endowment would like to congratulate all 2017 graduating seniors on your accomplishments. The skills each of you have learned and experience you have gained will take you far in life. Good luck in the upcoming years on your new endeavors. The Cass County Endowment had a challenge selecting the recipients of the 2017 Graduating Senior 4-H Scholarship. Congratulations to Megan Behrends, Ashely Freund, Paige Henderson and Hannah Richter for being selected as the 2017 scholarship recipients. These four individuals showed their involvement in the Cass County 4-H Program, community service, communication and leadership skills through their 4-H experience. These individuals were recognized at their Senior Awards Night in May and will be recognized at the 2017 4-H County Convention. Congratulations again to all graduating seniors! 2017 FSQA Information All Cass County 4-H & FFA swine, beef, sheep, dairy (both dairy cattle and dairy goat), meat goat, rabbit and poultry exhibitors are required to be Food Safety Quality Assurance (FSQA) certified, this includes all market & breeding animals. We will be hosting an Animal Science Day Camp for youth in grades 4-8 on June 19 at 1 PM which will also cover 1 year of FSQA Certification. There is a fee of $5 per youth attendee. This is not an FSQA Training, only an opportunity to take the FSQA test. Training/testing is based on grade, youth in grades 4-6 must attend an approved FSQA training each year. Youth in grades 7-9 will have the option of attending a training every year or completing a test which will certify them until they reach the 10th grade. Youth in grades 10-12 will have the option of attending the training every year, or completing a test which will certify them until they turn 20 years old. All exhibitors must be FSQA certified by July 1. Club Challenges This year the Cass County Youth Council will be collecting donations for the local food pantries during fair. They are challenging each club to bring a decorated box to the fair, and the club that collects the most items will receive a pizza party. With questions, for a list of suggested donation items, or to sign up your club to bring a box please contact the Extension Office! On June 25th Youth Council is holding a fairgrounds clean up day and planting flowers for the county fair. They would like to extend the offer out to other clubs if they would like to help out. This will take place at the Cass County Fairgrounds on June 25th at 1:00 PM. Call the Extension Office to RSVP so we can have enough materials. WANT TO KNOW MORE? Fair Exhibit Copyright Information As we prepare for county fair, and finalize our static exhibits, please be aware of copyright related to your exhibits. What is copyright? A copyright and/or a trademark are legal methods used by artists, photographers, writers, and others to protect their original and creative works. Protected items may range from professional photography and books to music, sport logo insignias, corporate and brand name logos to art designs. It is important to remember the idea itself cannot receive a copyright. The expression of an idea is what is copyrighted. It is the responsibility of individual 4-H ers to be aware of copyright/ trademark regulations when developing 4-H exhibits and communication activities for county and state fairs. 4-H ers are encouraged to create their own original work and illustrations so they can avoid using copyrighted and/or trademarked material. If you are using the source (photograph, painting,) to create a similar design, you must ask permission before you try to duplicate the original and you would not call it an original design. If you have questions about if your exhibit fits the copyright rules, please contact the Extension Office. County Fair Participation County fair will be here before we know it! Enrollment and Livestock ID deadline was May 15th. Please be aware of the other requirements to be eligible for fair. If you are planning to participate in the Cass County Fair this year, please be aware of the eligibility requirements that were put together by the Youth Action Committee. This is a direct statement from the Cass County 4-H Policy Statement: During each program year, a member must attend a minimum of six regular club meetings of their own club which will include the business meeting, and give a prepared educational presentation to the club at a 4-H club meeting, before July 15, to be eligible to show at county fair. Club officers and the organizational leader should determine a member's fair eligibility. There will be no excused absences. New 4-H members joining in March or later must attend a minimum of three club meetings and give a prepared educational presentation. New 4-H members joining in May must attend a minimum of two club meetings and give a prepared educational presentation. A member will become ineligible to exhibit at the county level at the end of the calendar year in which they graduate from high school. All 4-H members are to receive premium checks which they have earned. Fair board may withhold premium money upon rule violation. If members wish, they may leave the money in the club treasury. County Fair Static Entry To help create a more balanced Static Exhibit Judging Day schedule, clubs will again be asked to share an estimated number of exhibits by June 20. To prepare for your June 4-H club meeting, 4-Hers are asked to give an estimated number of static exhibits they plan to bring to County Fair. This doesn t require you to bring that number of projects, but this will help us create the Static Exhibit Judging schedule as well as make sure we have enough judges in each exhibit area. The exhibit judging schedule will be shared in the County Fair announcements and with the club leaders. 4-H PLEDGE I PLEDGE MY HEAD TO CLEARER THINKING, MY HEART TO GREATER LOYALTY, MY HANDS TO LARGER SERVICE, AND MY HEALTH TO BETTER LIVING, FOR MY CLUB, MY COMMUNITY, MY COUNTRY, AND MY WORLD.
