Care and Maintenance f Plytan STI Athletics Surfaces Intrductin Maintenance f yur synthetic Plytan STI athletic track surface is essential t ensure quality perfrmance fr athletes, minimisatin f ptential fr injury and lng term durability. It is imprtant t understand that an apprpriate, disciplined maintenance regime must be established and perfrmed t ensure the track is kept in tp cnditin. This manual is aimed at assisting yu t get the maximum value frm yur athletics surface. Yu will achieve the expected perfrmance and lngevity by fllwing the simple rules belw: ü Keep it clean. ü Dn't allw any unsuitable regular r ne-ff activity t damage the surface (such as driving heavy vehicles acrss the surface unsupervised, leaving excessive lads n the track fr extended perids, allwing athletes t undertake inapprpriate activity r utilise unsuitable equipment). ü Any damage shuld be assessed and repaired at the earliest pssible pprtunity. ü Call Plytan STI first if any uncertainty exists n a planned r prpsed activity that might raise cause fr cncern. We expect that many f the cmmnly asked questins will be answered in this manual. Shuld yu require further infrmatin, please cntact ur head ffice fr assistance. Plytan STI Factry 3, Dunlpill Drive Dandenng VIC 3175 Australia Ph: 03 8792 8000 Fax: 03 8792 8001 Web: www.plytan.cm.au Email: australasia@plytan.cm.au This manual is intended fr use by persnnel respnsible fr regular upkeep f the track. Be sure t present a cpy t all apprpriate peple.

Spike Rules Plytan STI nly permit Pyramid r Christmas Tree spikes (als called cmpressin tiered spikes) t be used n the track fr athletic activity. These spikes will prvide ideal perfrmance fr athletes n yur Rekrtan r Spurtan surface. They are designed t cmpress the surface rather than dig in, prviding energy restitutin t the athlete, especially fr sprinting events and result in less damage t the track surface due t the flatter prfile and therefre lwer pint lad than ther spike ptins. NOTE: Needle r Pin spikes are strictly nt allwed and usage f these spikes will affect yur warranty. Maximum length spikes are essential t perfrmance and track lngevity. Running activity Thrw and Jump activity maximum f 7mm maximum f 9mm Supervisin and attentin f activity at start lcatins is strngly recmmended t ensure minimisatin f damage frm starting blcks. Due t the variety f systems specific recmmendatins are nt pssible ther than spikes shuld be f the abve nature and the usage f them advised t athletes and facility users. Start lcatins fr sprinting activity are subjected t high wear and as such will require sme rectificatin wrk prir t full resurfacing f the track. Cntrl f the activity in these lcatins and lateral thinking by mving regular sprint start training activity t less used areas f the track (rear straight, behind marshalling area at 100m hurdle start, etc) will reduce the need fr expensive part-resurfacing wrks during the mid-stages f the track life.

Rekrtan M99 Additinal Track Marks Shuld yu require additinal markings n the surface, please cnsult Plytan STI prir t undertaking any painting. An incrrect applicatin culd result in unwanted permanent markings, whilst use f an imprper paint culd result in damage t the track surface. Spurtan Track Kings Cllege Auckland New Zealand Minimise Surface Damage Thrugh regular athletics cmpetitin the inside lanes are subjected t mre wear than the remainder f the track. T help spread usage acrss the entire track surface and prevent premature wear f the inner lanes, training access t the 1 st and 2 nd lanes shuld be restricted. This can be dne effectively with lckable barriers installed adjacent t the inside f the track. If these cannt be installed, then temprary measures such as bllards, traffic cnes r mvable barriers shuld be used t regulate track usage during training activity. Many athletics tracks are installed with additinal sprint facilities incrprated n the rear straight. T reduce stress n the main sprint event starting psitins, sprint training shuld be cnducted n the rear straight, where pssible.

Traffic Mvement and Lading Vehicles shuld be kept ff the track surface where pssible and then nly permitted as minimally necessary (e.g. maintenance, access t grassed field, setting up events during training and cmpetitin, etc). Yur track surface and warranty will be affected by: Oil r fuel spills r drips nt the surface. Sudden starting r twisting f wheels under lad. Excess traffic lading Any vehicle r implement mved acrss yur track must nt allw il, fuel r ther fluid leaks nt the track surface. If such a leak des ccur, wash the area immediately with a neutral ph, nn-faming detergent and flush thrughly with cld water. With regard t mving vehicles and weight the fllwing applies: Use vehicles with pneumatic tyres ONLY Ttal weight f the laded vehicle must NOT exceed 4 tnne Average lad per wheel must NOT exceed 1 tnne Where any uncertainty exists with a particular vehicle type r lading, dual layers f plywd must be laid in a brick-bnd pattern t spread the lad and eliminate pint lading. Vehicle peratrs must be cautined against: Sudden twisting r turning f wheels. Quick starting r stpping n the surface. Screwing wheels whilst n the track surface. Rekrtan M99 Vic State Athletics Melburne Planks r rails must be used when taking a laded vehicle acrss the internal drainage at all times, t avid damage t this lightweight structure. The raised aluminium track kerbing is nt trafficable and kerbing sectins must be remved t enable vehicle access acrss the track, when required It is highly recmmended an access pint and path be determined prir t crssing the track edge. Avid heavy traffic n yur track in ht weather (abve 30 C)

Maintenance Check the cnditin and maintain yur track regularly t ptimise its perfrmance. = Things t cnsider when wrking ut hw regularly surface maintenance is required are: The cnditin f ther nearby natural turf surfaces (grassed areas, internal field, etc). Shaded, tree cvered track areas where algae r mss might frm arund fallen leaves. Attentin t cleaning and clearing beneath the internal aluminium running rail. Always sweep/vacuum any litter, grass cuttings, leaves r sand ff the track surface at the first pprtunity. This can be dne in the first instance by hand r with leaf blwers, althugh specialist equipment is als available t undertake this activity n a mre thrugh basis. Rutine sweeping t remve grass clippings & vegetatin is critical t prevent accumulatin f rganic material n the track surface. If left unattended, rganic material can cause staining and hardening f the track surface. Rekrtan M99 Singapre Yuth Olympics 2010 Yur Plytan STI track surface is cnstructed with rubber granule embedded in the surface. Thrugh regular use after installatin, rubber granule will shed frm the surface. This is a nrmal feature f the track system and des nt indicate premature failure f the system.

Lse rubber granule shuld be peridically remved frm the track surface t prevent cllectin under the aluminium track kerbing, which can impede the drainage perfrmance f the facility. It is als essential that drainage channels, grates, sumps and the sltted drainage penings arund the D-sectins are kept clean and free f bstructin t maintain maximum drainage efficiency. Ensure that the underside f the track kerbing & drainage penings are kept free f bstructin T cmply with IAAF requirements, a raised aluminium kerb r running rail is installed n the inner edge f yur track. This rail is segmented and designed t be remvable as part f regular athletics cmpetitin and fr maintenance purpses (i.e. track cleaning r vehicular access). It is imprtant t nte that the aluminium rail is nt designed t be trafficable and if vehicle access t the track infield r D-sectins is required, then segments f the rail must first be remved t enable vehicle access. Where sand is blwn r tracked nt the track surface (near lng and triple jump pits), sweep and clean these areas n a regular basis. Regularly remve weeds and trim grass at the track edge. Thse respnsible fr the regular maintenance activity shuld be cnscius f the track maintenance requirements and ensure that surrunding areas are designed/maintained t ensure that strmwater run-ff is nt restricted by raised surfaces adjacent t the track.

Cleaning Plytan STI strngly recmmend a full track pressure clean be undertaken every tw years and after any event that may cause water inundatin r widespread dirt build-up n the track surface. This shuld be dne with a cmbinatin f a rtary pressure cleaning head and medium pressure hand wand (cmbinatin shwn belw). Plytan STI shuld be cntacted t undertake r initially supervise the first pressure clean, t ensure a clear directin n what is required and hw t cnduct the wrks. Ideally the aluminium rail shuld be cleaned ccasinally with liquid detergent n a damp clth and the rail fixing equipment (pins, munting brackets and cvers) checked. Washing f track t be dne with rtary cleaning head & hand held pressure cleaner Repairs Shuld any accidental damage ccur, small bubbles r signs f delaminatin be detected r excessive wear appear prematurely; call Plytan STI immediately fr a site visit, repair activity r immediate temprary instructin. Any repair wrk shuld be dne by qualified, trained, experienced Plytan STI technicians.!!attenti THIS DIRECTLY AFFECTS THE LONGEVITY OF THE POLYTAN STI SURFACE. DO NOT LET UNTRAINED PERSONNEL UNDERTAKE THIS TASK.

Service Cntract We pride urselves n the finished cnditin f ur athletic track facilities and ffer an annual service cntract. This will prvide an extended life expectancy fr the surface and allw track facility wners t prvide themselves and their cmmunity with the cmfrt and security f having an expert wrking n and mnitring the athletics track cnditin n a regular basis. This service wuld include: ü A full track inspectin and reprt n its cnditin and life expectancy ü Repairs t minr damaged areas ü Recmmendatins t regular maintenance persnnel n areas f any cncern ü Tuch up f any fading linemarking, if required ü Checking f peratinal equipment such as take-ff bard, ple vault inserts, etc This annual service will ensure yur track remains in first class cnditin whilst prviding yu with the cmfrt that prperly maintained synthetic sprts surfaces last lnger.
