Grange Royals Round Up News from around the club May 2018 Issue 09 Cancer Council Round The weekend is nearly here, which means it is time for our annual Cancer Council Round and this will be the fifth straight year that we have supported this cause. In 2018, it is estimated that there will be 138,321 new cancer cases in Australia alone. Every dollar raised will go towards support, research, prevention and advocacy. For more information about what Cancer Council Australia does across the nation, please check out https://www.cancer.org.au/about-us/what-wedo.html and for South Australian services that are available, please visit https://www.cancersa.org.au/ Your attendance at the State Hockey Centre on Saturday will not only see you get involved in a worthy charity event, but you will see some great hockey being played. There are genuine chances for wins across most grades, with both Premier League teams already defeating Woodville earlier this season.
The Coaches Word Gavin Buttle - PLM As a rule, a 4 nil victory should be celebrated, however we were left disappointed at not being able to convert even a reasonable % of created chances. We had in excess of 15 corners, in addition to at least the same amount of quality field shots, and countless other circle penetrations, and yet only finding the net on 4 occasions was not a great return. Having said that, we did dominate the game for 80 % of the time, and while Uni did create a few chances of their own, resolute defensive work and a desire to keep a clean sheet kept them at bay. Brad Sofia continued his excellent form, and he was ably supported across our defence with Dan Pena making a great goal line save, and Ryan Muirhead made a desperate tackle to deny a quality shot for the home team. Cam White also continued his dominance of the midfield, along with Tom Jordan, and Isaac Whittaker also worked really hard. Callan Summers excelled in a dual defensive role, and while not converting sufficiently well, our strikers also continued their solid form creating many chances. Player of the Week

U15 Boys Battle Hard In a very competitive game, the U15 Boys lost by one goal on Friday night to Adelaide. There was strong attack from both sides for the majority of the game and at half-time our U15 Boys went in 2-0 up thanks to two goals from Annie Abbott. Adelaide regrouped in the second half and their attack was too strong for our defence, scoring three second half goals to take a 3-2 win. A huge thanks from the coaching and manager goes to Brayden Warner, who stepped in as goal keeping in Bill Sinclair s absence. It was great to see Annie, Victtoria Acquaviva and Tia Dedman put their hands up to fill in, the girls did an awesome job of supporting the boys. A solid effort, well done team.
