This group of volunteers saved us thousands of dollars in labor through their efforts and allowed us to do the project without hiring an outside contractor Thank you, Thank you!! Claude Maechling and Tony Passarella have worked hard planning this project and it is really taking shape. Everyone involved has done a great job and this will be a great asset to our club going forward. Thank you again to all involved! The Spring Cruise was a huge success! I was able to join the cruisers at the Plager s home on the final night as we surprised Sandy on her 80 th birthday. Sandy and Clacky do a great job planning these cruises year in and year out and I know that the fleet is looking forward to many future cruises. Congratulations are in order to our team race team of Patrick Firth, Bob Lippincott, Jane O Mara, Katrina Greer, Sean Callahan, and Sean Callahan (yes, both Seans ). Our team race team defeated the Gibson Island Yacht Squadron on June 10 th. The event was sailed at TAYC in the Ideal 18s. TAYC has been victorious for the past several years against GIYS, who we sail against on an annual basis. A big thanks to Andrew Parish for organizing the event and John Devlin for running the races. Jr. Sailing is completely underway and so far, all is well. Our new Jr. Sailing Director Kellen Bernard is settling in well and we are looking forward to a successful season. Please mark your calendars for the Junior Olympics to be held at TAYC this year from July 12 th through the 14th and our Jr. Sailing Fundraiser on July 22 nd. Finally, if you are interested in volunteering for the Oxford Regatta in any capacity, please reach out to Vice- Commodore Tom Alspach to sign up to volunteer. Executing the Oxford Regatta takes support from the entire club and there is a job for everyone. Please check your calendars for August 12-13 and let Tom know, we need all of the help that we can get. Thank you, and Happy Sailing! -Commodore, RJ Cooper Club Manager Vicky Van Loo Thank you and Happy Sailing! Office: 410-226-5269 www.tayc.com Email: manager@tayc.com

TAYC Team Triumphant on June 10 TAYC s team racing crew defeated strong challengers from Gibson Island Yacht Squadron in the annual team racing event at TAYC on June 10. The event which occurs each June changes venue annually, and this year it was our turn. The team race is sailed in the Ideal 18's with each team sailing three boats, with two crew members on each vessel. The TAYC team included Patrick Firth and Bob Lippincott; Jane DeLashmutt and Katrina Greer; and the two Sean Callahans, Jr. and Sr. The winner of the event is the team that is victorious in three of the five races. This year s series was sailed in moderate eight to ten knot southwesterly conditions. PRO John Devlin set a course just off the club s beach and the boats raced down the Tred Avon in an N course configuration. TAYC prevailed in the first two races, but GIYS came back in the third race to keep the series close. Then, in the fourth race, some deft maneuvering by the two Callahans enabled TAYC to take a third and decisive win. The Callahans were headed for the finish on port tack with a GIYS boat just behind, also on port. Well further back was the Firth/Lippincott boat heading for the line on starboard tack. Seeing this, the Callahans tacked over onto starboard and pushed the GIYS boat back up the course as it had to give way. This enabled the Firth/Lippincott boat to slip over the line in first place, and the Callahans then came about and finished second with that one-two finish providing just enough points to seal the three race victory for TAYC. The GIYS group were fine sailors and true gentlemen (they were all gentlemen) on the race course and after, and a good time was had by all. Next year there will be a return match up at Gibson Island.
