Wildcat Nation, Here s the Lawrence North athletics weekly update for the week of Monday, August 29, 2016. Lawrence North Athletics Community Partner of the Week The Indiana Army National Guard is proud to support Lawrence North Athletics! (For information on being the next Community Partner of the Week, email Athletic Director Mike Penrose at michaelpenrose@msdlt.k12.in.us) Lawrence North Student-Athletes of the Week Matt Manner, Tennis Anslyn Freije, Soccer Senior tennis player Matt Manner provided the spark the Wildcats needed to beat Noblesville last week. With the team score tied 2-2, Manner s match

would decide it. Down 5-2 in the first set, Matt went on an 11-0 run to win his match 7-5, 6-0 and seal the win for the Wildcats, 3 matches to 2. Matt has a GPA of 4.3, so he is pretty clutch in the classroom as well. Sophomore Anslyn Freije scored two goals in the 4-0 win over Warren Central and played the entire game at defensive center mid in the 1-0 win over Westfield. She has a GPA of 4.5! These two really know the meaning of student-athlete. Congrats, Matt and Anslyn! The Lawrence North student-athletes of the week! Cheerleading: Thanks again to the LN cheerleaders for getting us hyped at the games and providing spirit signs at school. Great shot by Varsity Views!

Cross-Country: Both XC teams placed second out of 13 teams in the Danville Hokum Karem Invite. The girls, currently ranked #18 in the state by Indiana Runner, were led by Jean Carson and Grace Dean, followed closely by the groups of Loughery/Grider and Riding/Allen. The boys were led by seniors Kyle Harris and Will Reid, followed closely by the sophomore duo of Reid/Hoeft. The Wildcats are starting to take form and will begin racing 5000 meters for the rest of the season. Next week they will be making the road trip to Lafayette to race some of the best teams in the northern half of Indiana.

Football: The Wildcats put together an incredible defensive effort, holding the Bulldogs and the #1 QB in the nation to only 13 points. But it wasn t enough, as the offensive struggled after Elijah Smith ran for a 70-yard touchdown in the first quarter. Brownsburg 13 Lawrence North 8. The Cats (1-1) will open up MIC play in grand style, taking on township rival Lawrence Central in Lucas Oil Stadium on Friday night! Information on the game is listed below. Photos courtesy of Varsity Views.

Girls Golf: The LN girls golf team split a three way match against LC and Park Tudor. The Cats beat the Bears 217-237 but lost a close match to Panthers by 3 strokes, 214-217. They rebounded from that close loss with a 3 stroke win against Beech Grove, 197-200. Low Wildcat for both matches was senior Abby Wischmann with a 45. Coming up this week is the MIC championships at Prairie View, a make-up date with Greenfield-Central on Wednesday, and then Chatard/Heritage Christian at Riverside on Thursday.

Boys Soccer: The LN soccer team tied #7 North Central in a very competitive game at home, 3-3. The Cats then went on the road to face Warren Central, having to setting for a 1-1 tie. Lawrence North (1-0-2) will travel to Guerin Catholic on Monday and then go on the road on Thursday for a MIC contest against Ben Davis.

Girls Soccer: The Wildcats (2-1, 1-1 MIC) picked up two good wins last week. The team beat MIC rival Warren Central 4-0 behind two goals from Anslyn Freije. Grace Moore and Madison Savage also picked up goals for the Cats. On Saturday against Westfield, LN got a goal from Kiley Shaw on a corner kick from Grace Moore. That s all they would need as the Cats put up another shutout win, 1-0. The Cats will travel to Ben Davis on Wednesday for a MIC contest, and the will participate in the North Central Invitational this weekend.

Boys Tennis: The Wildcats (1-3) have had a rough schedule, facing several highly ranked teams. The team got a big win at Noblesville, 3-2, with senior Matt Manner coming up big at #3 singles. Down 5-2 in the first set, Manner won the next 11 games to win the match, 7-5, 6-0 to seal the win for the Cats. LN played well but lost against Carmel, and then Brebeuf handed the Cats a loss on Saturday. The team will travel to Center Grove on Tuesday, home against Park Tudor on Wednesday, and then home again on Thursday against Bishop Chatard.

Volleyball: The Wildcats (5-3, 1-0 MIC) went 2-2 this week, losing to ranked teams in HSE and Providence while beating Muncie Central and Floyd Central. Maddie Dean, senior outside hitter, had 52 kills in the four matches last week. The Cats go on the road to Ben Davis on Tuesday and then will play Bishop Chatard at home on Thursday.

Wrestling Golf Outing: The wrestling team will be having a golf outing on Saturday, September 10 th at Winding Ridge Golf Course.
