DEVELOPMENT APPEAL RIPON RUGBY UNION FOOTBALL CLUB

FOREWORD The purpose of putting this brochure together is to enable us, Ripon Rugby Club to: a. Develop the support we can offer local youngsters b. Sustain our position as one of the leading sport and community groups c. Seek funds from within the community at large to support our planned developments We have been in existence in one form or another for approaching 120 years although we have only been here at Mallorie Park for 51 years. You will be pleased to know that throughout our existence we have supported the City and the local community in many guises and have until now made few requests for support. We are a wholly amateur club run as professionally as we can by a team of volunteers. We run 4 senior teams on a weekly basis with the junior side growing from a zero base to in excess of 180 youngsters in the last 5 years. We now find ourselves in the situation where we have outgrown our current clubhouse and changing facilities, which I m sure you ll agree are in need of both modernisation and extension. The development we are planning has been long in gestation having had to consider the rules and regulations of a number of funding bodies including the National Lottery. However in the end, for I believe the justifiable reason of delivering a value for money development that we can afford, we have decided with your help to go it alone. This will be done with the small sum ( 35K) we have accumulated over the years from annual operating surpluses plus what we hope is a significant contribution from you the community whether that be Business, Commerce or individual. The development is planned to be constructed in phases to ensure that we only build within the limits of cash availability at any stage. It would be nice to think that we could deliver this as one phase, but that depends on YOU. We aim to start construction immediately using our current resources in the belief and trust that this will generate more support and demonstrate our commitment to the community by not talking but doing. I realise that there are many financial demands on local businesses but we trust that we are worthy of your support in whatever form you wish. Andy Proud PRESIDENT Ripon Rugby Club
It seems like a long time ago, probably because it is a long time ago, since I began my rugby career as a youngster with Ripon RUFC Colts at Mallorie Park. Much has changed since those days when there were only 2 pitches, 2 senior teams and nothing like the thriving mini rugby section which can now be seen on a Sunday morning today. On the other hand much has remained the same in those forty odd years. Certainly there are not many rugby clubs around where a friendlier welcome or a more convivial atmosphere can be found in the clubhouse on a Saturday after a match. Over the years Ripon RUFC has advanced steadily as a rugby club, achieving a Yorkshire Shield victory and enjoying a successful Centenary season on the way. The Club now enters another phase of its progress with the proposed clubhouse development. After playing rugby around the world, including Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Tonga and Japan, I now spend most Saturday afternoons watching the Ripon first XV facing the challenges of the Yorkshire leagues. The new development is an essential part of the facilities needed for the youngsters of Ripon to develop into the senior teams of the future. A measure of Ripon RUFC s recent success has been the increased number of senior teams and playing members, unlike many other clubs, together with the continued success of the minis. I hope that the Club s playing ambitions are supported by the City of Ripon in helping to provide a clubhouse to meet the demands of the years ahead. Peter J Squires BRITISH LIONS, England, Yorkshire & Ripon Ripon Rugby Club is a sporting and social hub for many people in our city. We hope through our development, to continue to attract members, young and old, male and female, both as players and social members. A redeveloped, modern rugby club will have a great deal to offer the City on several levels and with the hard work of our members and the support of the community, it can be achieved.
