HUDSON YACHT CLUB Welcome All Sailors! It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to our traditional Hudson Yacht Club Labour Day Regatta. We are delighted to be your hosts once again for what we hope will be a safe and fun-filled weekend for everyone. Good luck and good winds to all competitors! GENERAL INFORMATION FOOD SERVICES The regatta BBQ dinner will be served from the Gazebo on Saturday, September 2nd from 18:00 to 21:00. PLEASE NOTE THAT TICKETS MUST BOUGHT PRIOR TO 18:00. Full breakfasts are available at the Viviry restaurant on Main Road in Hudson, a short walking distance from the Club. LIQUOR AND BEER ON GROUNDS In keeping with the Liquor Laws of Quebec and the Club s liquor license, only beer, wine and liquor purchased from the Bar is allowed on the Club grounds. CHITS AND PAYMENT FOR DRINKS Be sure to bring your 2017 Club membership card for proper identification to ensure signing privileges. LEGAL DRINKING AGE The legal drinking age in Quebec is eighteen years of age. There will be no under-age drinking permitted on Hudson Yacht Club property. MINORS (UNDER 18) ON CLUB PROPERTY No unaccompanied minors are to be permitted on Club property after 2100 hours. Children of regatta participants may be requested to stay on their parents boat after 2100 hours. SWIMMING POOL Competitors and their families may use the Club pool as guests of H.Y.C. CAMPING Camping on Club property is not permitted. For information on campgrounds in the area, please go to the Club office. PETS Pets are not permitted on any part of the Club property unless on a leash and then only for the purpose of going to and from a boat. HUDSON YACHT CLUB LABOUR DAY REGATTA September 2 nd - September 4 th, 2017 This regatta will be the J24 Quebec District Championship (September 3 rd & 4 th ) The Organizing Authority will be the Hudson Yacht Club SAILING INSTRUCTIONS 1. Rules 1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing. 1.2 Current SLVYRA handicaps will apply. 1.3 Class rules relating to class membership, crew number and crew weight will not apply for the Saturday long distance race for keel boats. 1.4 If there is a conflict between languages the English text will take precedence. 2. ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRIES 2.1 The regatta is open to all keel boats and multi-hulls with a valid SLYRA handicap. 2.2 Eligible boats must complete the regatta registration form. 3. FLEETS For the Long Distance Race entries will be divided into classes as per Prizes 20.1 Course Racing, entries will be divided into the following fleets as defined by SLVYRA. PHRF1-A PHRF1-B PHRF 2 PHRF 3 White Sail 4. NOTICE TO COMPETITORS 4.1 Notices to competitors will be posted on the official notice board on the verandah of the H.Y.C. clubhouse. 5. CHANGES TO THE SAILING INSTRUCTIONS 5.1 Any changes in the Sailing Instructions will be posted before 0900h on the day they will take effect. 6. SIGNALS MADE ASHORE 6.1 Signals made ashore will be displayed from the Webb Pier flag staff in front of the H.Y.C. clubhouse verandah. 6.2 When flag AP is displayed ashore, 1 minute is replaced with not less than 30 minutes in the race signal AP.

7. SCHEDULE OF RACES Labour Day Long Distance 7.1 Saturday, September 2 nd - one race Warning signal 1330 h Area North East of Ile Cadieux Round the Buoy 7.2 Sunday, September 3 rd - three races all classes Warning signal 1025 h Area North West of the H.Y.C. 7.3 Monday, September 4 th J-24 only Warning signal 1025 h No Warning Signal after 1400 h Area North West of the H.Y.C. 7.4 There must be a minimum of 5 boats per fleet in order to constitute a race. Should there be fewer than 5 boats; the Race Committee may combine fleets. 8. FLEET FLAGS AND STARTING ORDER AROUND THE BUOY RACING 8.1 Sunday September 3 rd Fleet Code Flag PHRF 1-A, 1-B and 2 Numerical flag 1 PHRF 3 Numerical flag 3 White Sail W 8.2 Monday, September 4 th J24 Numerical flag 1 8.3 The Race Committee may combine fleets for starts. To do so the RC will display the code flags of those boats starting in the sequence. 9. COURSES Long Distance Race Saturday, September 2 nd 9.1 There will be one start for all fleets. The fleet flag will be the Hudson Yacht Club Burgee. 9.2 The start will be between the staff of the RC boat displaying the RC flag at the starboard end of the line and the staff of another RC boat displaying an orange flag at the port end of the line. Spacer marks may be used. Boats passing between the spacer mark and the RC boat must round the end to start correctly. 9.3 LEAVE CARDINAL BUOY ANSE TO PORT 9.4 Leave orange inflatable mark in front of H.Y.C. to starboard. 9.5 Leave orange inflatable mark located approximately ½ nm North West of the H.Y.C. to port.

9.6 Leave Cardinal buoy BY HUD to port. 9.7 Leave H87 to port. 9.8 Round Yellow inflatable mark approximately 1/3 nm northwest of H 87 to port. 9.9 Leave H87 to starboard. 9.10 Leave Cardinal buoy BY HUD to starboard. 9.11 Leave orange inflatable mark located approximately ½ nm North West of the H.Y.C. to starboard. 9.12 Finish between the orange inflatable mark in front of H.Y.C. and the staff of the RC boat displaying the RC flag. ROUND THE BUOY RACING Sunday, September 3 rd all classes Monday, September 4 th J-24 9.13 The course shall be indicated on the race course board on the Race Committee boat. Each red or green placard represents a mark of the course. 9.14 Letters on a green background color indicates the mark is to be left to starboard. 9.15 Letters on a red background color indicates the mark is to be left to port. 9.16 A placard with an X followed by a number indicates the course will be sailed again. Example; W L X2 indicates the course will be sailed twice; X3 the course will be sailed three times, etc. 9.17 The following letters or words will be used on the placards to indicate the course: W = Windward G = Gybe L = Leeward Gate = Gate 9.18 If a gate is indicated, boats must pass between the marks of a gate from the direction of the previous mark. If one gate mark is missing the boats shall leave the remaining mark to port. 9.19 The first placard is the first mark of the course. 9.20 The race shall not be shortened to less than two legs of the course. 9.21 Courses may be shortened for different fleets at different rounding marks. 10. MARKS Marks will be orange or yellow inflatable buoys.

11 THE START FOR ROUND THE BUOY RACING 11.1 The start line will be between the staff of the RC boat displaying an orange flag at the starboard end of the line and an orange or yellow inflatable buoy at the port end of the line. 12. CHANGE OF THE NEXT LEG OF THE COURSE 12.1 To change the next leg of the course, the Race Committee will lay a new mark (or move the finishing line) and remove the original mark as soon as practical. When in a subsequent change a new mark is replaced, it will be replaced by an original mark. The new mark may be a different colour. 13. THE FINISH FOR ROUND THE BUOY RACING 13.1 The finish will be between the staff of the RC boat displaying the orange flag and an orange or yellow inflatable buoy. 14. TIME LIMITS 14.1 For the Long Distance Race, boats failing to finish within 150 minutes after the first boat sails and finishes the course will be scored Did Not Finish. This changes rules 35 and A4. 14.2 For round the buoy racing, boats failing to finish within 20 minutes after the first boat in their fleet sails and finishes the course will be scored Did Not Finish. This changes rules 35 and A4. 15. PROTESTS 15.1 Protest forms are available at the race office. Protests shall be delivered there within the protest time limit. 15.2 For each Fleet the time limit is 90 minutes after the last boat has finished the last race of the day. This changes rule 61.3 and 62.2. 15.3 The Protest Committee will hear protests in the approximate order of receipt as soon as possible after receipt. 15.4 The Notice Board will be used to inform protesters of the time and location of the hearing. 15.5 Inquiry forms are available at the Race Office. Anyone wishing to communicate with the race committee must do so on these forms. The Race Committee will respond as soon as possible by posting the information on the official notice board. 16. SCORING 16.1 The Low Point Scoring system Appendix A will apply. 16.2. Labour Day Regatta Series Sunday, September 3 rd - Three races are scheduled. One race is required to be completed to constitute a series. 16.3 A boat s series score will be the total of her race scores. 16.4 In addition to being scored in the PHRF 1-B, the results will be scored separately for the J24 Quebec District Championship.

17. RADIO COMMUNICATIONS 17.1 The RC will monitor and use VHF channel 71 to communicate to the fleet, including location of the starting area, countdown to the start, OCS sail numbers, general recalls and postponements. Failure to make these broadcasts or failure to hear them shall not constitute grounds for granting redress. This changes RRS 62.1. 18. DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY 18.1 Competitors participate in the regatta at their own risk. See rule 4 Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to during, or after the regatta. 19. INSURANCE 19.1 Each participating boat shall be insured with third party liability insurance. 20. PRIZES 20.1 Long Distance Race: Lake of Two Mountains Cup; awarded to the first keel boat to finish on corrected time. HYC Annual Trophy; awarded to the first keel boat to cross the finish line. Ritchie Trophy; awarded to the first Corvette to finish on corrected time. (If no Corvettes, first boat on corrected time at least 25 yrs. old and longer than 28 feet) Prizes will be awarded to the first boat in each fleet to finish on corrected time. Minimum 5 boats per fleet. Prizes awarded to 2 nd and 3 rd place boats overall to finish on corrected time. Multi Hull Prize; awarded to the first multi hull on corrected time. 20.2 Round the Buoy Races: Prizes will be awarded to the boats of each fleet finishing first, second and third. 20.3 Prizes for the Labour Day Regatta Long Distance Race and Sunday Series will be presented on Sunday as soon as practicable from the verandah of the H.Y.C. 20.4 Prizes for the J24 Quebec District Championship will be arranged by their own fleets to be presented on Monday, September 4 th.
