The Tallwood Tradition August 2017 http://www.tallwoodmensclub.com 2017 Board of Directors President Greg Garcia Vice President Joe LeBlanc Treasurer Kim Aderman Secretary/ Communications Greg Berger Handicap Jim Bidwell Membership Bob Wahlberg Co-Social Richard Potticary Co-Social Earl Brown Tournament Terry Ruzzo The President s Corner Well, the Member/Member did not fail to impress. We had a runaway smash them all type victory on the net side by the team of Berger/Coughlin with a net 56!! They were just a mere 4 strokes clear of the second place team; apparently they thought they needed to turn in some sort of 4 man team score. The gross side was more what you would expect with several teams within striking distance of grabbing the title but the team of Brett/Ruzzo with 6 Club Championships among them shot 67 to edge out the field. Nice job boys. I would like to remind all our members that now is the time to submit nominations for the Distinguished Service Award (DSA). The board will be considering applications in September so get those nominations in ASAP. The eye on the future includes the 2-Ball Open this weekend, and then before you know it we will be into September and Match Play II will be right upon us. See you out there, Greg Garcia President Past President Scott Marshall
Membership I can t even count the number of times I have heard I have a friend who is interested in joining the club next year!! Why not convince him to join for the balance of the 2017 season and come back as a returning member next year? We certainly have a long way to go in our 2017 schedule of events. The Board has approved a proposal to waive the membership fee for the balance of 2017 for new members who join after the Two-Ball Open. That s Free Membership! After the Two-Ball Open, the fee to join the best Men s Club in the state will be only $30.00 (to activate a new GHIN account) or $0.00 if the new member has an active GHIN account. Gentlemen If you have a friend, relative or colleague, who may be interested in joining the best Men s Club in the state, please refer him to the web site to apply for membership or e-mail me at the address below and I will work with him to complete the application process. Bob Wahlberg Membership Director TMC_membership@yahoo.com Social Scotch Ball I and Parent Child are in the books for 2017. We had a record turnout for this year s Parent Child with over 75 golfers! Thanks to everyone who attended for making our social tournaments a success. Also, many thanks to the event captains and volunteers, without whom we could never pull these off. Up next, on August 19 th, is the 2 Ball Open (Rib Open). This is a 2 man best ball event and is followed by a fabulous barbeque catered by Little Marks with pork ribs and beef brisket. This tournament will be a 7:30 AM shotgun start. Registration forms are available on line or in the Pro Shop. Online registration is not available for this tournament. This one fills up quickly, so find your partner (one team member must be a men s club member) and get your registration in. Looking down the road a bit to September 16 th is Scotch Ball II. This is the event where you play with a female you would like to play golf with and enjoy a great meal afterwards. Event Captain Steve Liteplo has a great tournament planned, so get your partner and register soon. Finally, the Social Committee has Limited Number of glasses remaining from the 2017 Member Guest Tournament. They are for sale for $20 for a set of two. These are high quality cocktail glasses etched with the 2017 Tallwood Member Guest. Remember, this was the year our longtime professional, John Yo Pro Nowobilski, announced his retirement. They would make a nice keepsake of the year of his retirement. Please contact Richard Potticary II if you are interested in purchasing a set. rdpii@ymail.com Richard Potticary II and Earl Brown Cosial 2
Tournament We have just completed the rain shortened Member/Member with the trophies going to Tom Brett/Terry Ruzzo for Low Gross, 67, and Greg Berger/Kevin Coughlin for Low Net, 56. Although it is mid-august already, there is still a lot of golf to be played, and a number of important events. By the time this is published, the Super Seniors will be completed on August 12 th. Upcoming on the 19 th is the Social event, the 2-Ball Open where you can play with a member or bring a guest. One of the highlights of the summer, although it is not a TMC official event, is the Harry Nowobilski Memorial/Celebrity tournament on August 24 th. If you are interested, contact John asap to see if there are any last minute openings. It s a great event. September is packed with great events starting with the Match Play II which will have a slightly different format. There will be only 4 teams in each flight, and instead of 27 holes on Saturday, we will play 18 on Saturday and 18 on Sunday. Within each flight the 2-man teams will play a 9-hole round robin with the 4th match pairing the two leaders in the flight so they can square off for the flight championship. The President s Cup is on September 23 rd, and the 2 nd annual Tallwood Cup will be help on Sept 30 th and Oct 1 st. The event will have a Ryder Cup style to it as Zac and John will Captain the two teams. In the race for the Golfer of the Year (GOTY), Tom Brett has inched into 1 st place with his 4 points in the Member/Member, followed closely by Jim Bidwell, and Kim Aderman.
