Thank you to all our students, parents and instructors for an awesome couple of weeks! We have learned approximately four and a half minutes of the show and are well on our way to having the whole show done before our first competition! Our students have really grown and developed their abilities. Each student received a show bead and necklace or bracelet at our Friday cookout. The bead is a small gesture but has great meaning to our students as it represents each member of the Great Bridge Marching Wildcats. It is a tradition that I hope carries on years after I am gone (I retire in 2035, just so everyone knows... start planning the retirement party). :-) This week is our first performance week - evening practice Monday 5-9, the Parent Preview is Tuesday evening. Parents, please be in the stadium by 8:00 PM! We also have our first football game Friday evening! I will send an itinerary for the football game so that everyone knows where to be. Let s have another great week and keep the momentum going! Mr. Ross Dear Marching Wildcat Parents, They survived Band Camp 2018! Way to go Marching Wildcats! You ve come a long way since stepping on the field on Day 1! Parents, come out to the Parent Preview on Tuesday and see all the band has accomplished (there s even a surprise planned for you). Before you go to GBMS for the show, come out and gather with fellow Wildcat families while eating some delicious pizza (show the flier in this email and the band will receive 10% of sales). Making connections with other band parents truly adds enjoyment to the marching season. It takes a team to make the show possible, and it s even more rewarding when you do it with friends. Speaking of friends, I hope your students made some new ones over the past couple of weeks. It was fun watching them interact during Gatorade breaks, the BBQ, the car wash, and the pool party. It s a great group of young men and women. Be sure to ask them about the special Glitch memento Mr. Ross gave them on the last day of camp to represent this specific group of Marching Wildcats. Even though Band Camp is over, we aren t slowing down! This week alone includes evening practices, Parent Preview with dinner at Chesapeake Pizza, new student orientation, and a football game. Please visit Charms to see how you can help at these events. See you Tuesday! Erin Oliphant GBBPA President

Marching Wildcat Meals at Home Games To reduce time spent in concession lines at home football games and to maximize time playing for the green and gold, we have students preorder their meals. If your Marching Wildcat would like to eat at HOME football games, he/she MUST PREPAY for their Wildcat Dinner Combo. Payments will be accepted on Wednesday and Thursday after marching practice during the week of the home game. The cost is $5 (cash or check payable to GBBPA) and includes a hamburger, cheeseburger, OR hot dog, chips and water bottle. At the game on Friday, a table will be set up near the South Concession stand with the student s meal ready for a quick pick up. NOTE: Money will be collected at the beginning of practice on Tuesday and at the end of practice on Wednesday because we don t have practice on Thursday! > Swamp water recipe > 1/3 Riptide Rush > 1/3 Lemon-Lime > 1/3 Glacier Freeze BAND CAMP A huge Thanks to the band camp volunteers!! Thank you to all the volunteers who helped make these 2 weeks a success. It was wonderful to meet so many new parents. FUN FACT: Did you know we served over 350 gallons of Gatorade to the Marching Wildcats? You may have heard all about our homemade swamp water flavored Gatorade. The majority of the kids only like this mixture. If the kids really, really miss their daily consumption of swamp water and want to try to make it themselves here is one of the many concoctions (it is a different measurement each day): Last Day of camp BBQ We had an amazing last day of band camp and the hospitality committee hosted a BBQ lunch for all the kids and instructors! We served hotdogs, hamburgers, veggie burgers, pasta salad, chips, fruit, desserts, punch, and soft drinks. Thank you to everyone who sent in the food and drinks! Bottled Water Donations The Hospitality Committee would also like to thank everyone who sent in cases upon cases of bottled water! We already received over 600 of the 8oz bottles. We are still collecting water for the competitions so if anyone would still like to donate please send 8oz bottles to the band room and label it away game. Thanks! Thank you for all your help! Jen Sowers

We have started the Fair Pay system. This points system is not to get more money from you, but to get more people involved in the fun (yes it really is!) of being a band parent. It is good to meet the other parents of the kids you are hearing about, and be part of a community. The Fair Pay system is designed to get you, the parent, involved. Often, people do not know how to start, and this here is a start. Each Family is required to volunteer to a total of $250. This comes out to about 5 events a year. From working a concession stand, helping collect tickets at the Chili cook off, running a fundraiser, everything can earn points. If you log into CHARMS and look under the point system, each option is set up for the number of points to be earned. This is how we will track the Fair Pay system, so you can see what you have earned and what is left. Most events are 50 points. Work all 5 football games or chaperone all others, and you would be done. We will not be paying you if you do over the $250, but by then I think you will be hooked and involved anyways. If you do not make the $250 by December, we will reach out to you. There is always something to do, and always something, you can do. If you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to ask. The car wash was an enormous success! We had 33 students come out and make over $800!!! Thanks to everyone who came out and had your vehicle washed!
Hello Wildcat Parents, I hope you're having a wonderful summer and ready for our awesome kids to enter the 2018 marching season! We have some details to take care of as we prepare to serve the young men and women who are a part of the program. First, With the heightened measures to ensure safety of our students, we're asking ALL adult volunteers to submit information for background checks via the link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1faipqlsdr5mwwyhgqhe1vdxszpmy5xeorue0rgcjwh50nhzbh6byj SQ/viewform It's easy and takes less than a minute to complete. Second, please watch the 7:48 minute video located at https://youtu.be/aqtq_k1t96u if you're going to volunteer with the band (video is titled for chaperones, but we're asking all our adult volunteers to watch it). We don't have access to the Chesapeake Public Schools' form for you to sign off after watching the video, but we'll get it to you when it becomes available. Please contact me if you have any questions. Thank you for helping us take steps to ensure the safety of our children!
