Bill s BS 07/15/15 VERY VERY Busy Month, 3 Events! June started out very sunny and ended very soggy. You couldn t ask for a nicer day for our Solo#2 at LES. 53 entries made KV happy. Drew Bickel was Mister SMOOTH. He didn t look fast, but he took the PAX by over half a second over Nick Simon!!! Four Honda S2000s, could that be all of them in NWPA? Great to see new members Jeff Britton, Andrew Hanewycz, Andrew Gentry, Nate Lord, and Gary Layden. I must complement Liz Schneider. She is quite a runner and restored more cones to their spots than I can ever remember and did it with style and grace! I actually started June with a quick trip to Stuttgart for the Porsche Travel Club s Backstage Tour. First we toured the Porsche Museum and the factory in Zuffenhausen where they make the 911s and Boxsters. After some rush hour traffic on the autobahn and some narrow back roads in a 911 4S Targa, we spent the night in Wurzburg. The next day, I shared a Macan Turbo on some neat forest roads, then got up to 150 mph on the autobahn. We had lunch at the Wartburg Castle and then off to Leipzig. Porsche builds the Panamera, their Cayenne, and now the Macan at their new and rapidly expanding greenfield factory. The Welcome Center is gorgeous, but we didn t get to try out the test track. I loved the Racing Yellow 911S, but the traffic jams and construction were frustrating. Great trip and so was the flights on Lufthansa. by Bill Stewart Bill Stewart and Bruce Wesley at the June 9th Track Night in America at Pitt Race The fabulous Porsche Museum in Stuttgart I was joined by Bruce Wesley, in his Corvette, down at Pitt Race for the 3rd Track Night in America. Again I helped at Registration and did the Work/Drive entry where you work for 2 sessions and drive one for only $35. Great fun, very casual, lots of novices. Next, 8 of us ventured up to Western New York s soggy Solo at Ralph Wilson Stadium. Tim Mackey had our FTD with a time of 32.033 and won Street Prepared while Andy Ferrara won our PAX with an adjusted 26.963 and placed 2nd in Street Touring. I must say WNY has some impressive drivers. The Porsche Welcome Center at their Leipzig factory and test track In looking for as much track time before my next big trip, I spent 4 days with the PCA Rally Sport Region at Grattan, just East of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Friendly folks, interesting club track, half drag strip straight and half roller coaster, blind off-camber turns, and 2 exciting dips. Glad I went. Did anyone go to Cruisetown Erie? 2 continued on p.9

Misery Bay Region SCCA Membership Meeting Cornerstone Bar & Grill June 4, 2015 Those in Attendance: Jay Dumbeck, Rich Hall, Lance Dunn, Nick Schneider, Dave Hammer, Sam Mehler, Henry Young, Kathy Vanderwende, and Tim Mackey. R.E. Tim Mackey called the meeting to order at 7:07 PM. Dave Hammer moved to accept the May minutes as printed in the Pit Signal and posted on the forum. The motion was seconded by Sam Mehler. The motion passed. Tim Mackey and Logan Flaherty attended the local Mustang Club meeting, and flyers from the Mustang Club were distributed. Committee Reports: Treasurer: KV reported that the current balance in the bank account totaled $9,913.00. She also mentioned that the total shown in the latest Pit Signal was a misprint. Rally: No report was given. Pit Signal: No report was given. Registration: No report was given. PR: Jay Dumbeck has posted our upcoming events on 7 to 8 different websites. Trophy: Dave Hammer has ordered 8 FTD trophies, and 12 first, second, and third place trophies. These trophies will be ready for the June 7th event. The trophy inventory will be monitored throughout the season by taking a post-event count after each autocross. Web Site: Sam Mehler did not have much to report. He did, however, mention that he is still working on securing sponsors for our events, and will have more to report later. Solo: Ian McCune is resigning as our Solo Chair due to his relocation. R.E. Tim Mackey described the duties of the Solo Chair, including securing sanctions for our events, course design, and assignments of event chairs. Sam Mehler volunteered to take over the position for the remainder of the year. R.E. Tim Mackey stressed the need for people to volunteer as event chairs or for people willing to design the courses. Sam Mehler volunteered to chair the July 19th event. R.E. Tim Mackey gave a brief report on the last event. The tech stickers were good. The trailer was well organized. Wrist bands were done well at the last event. He asked those members in attendance if they knew where the club battery is located. Also, Dave Hammer wanted to know where his extension cord was to be found. The gate at the Speedway will be open at 7 AM on Sunday for our next event. Old Business: Dave Hammer had information available to show to any landowner interested in hosting a rallycross event. A discussion followed concerning club interest and participation. An event would not be held unless there are a sufficient number of members interested in entering a rallycross to offset the effort and expense of holding such an event. A brief discussion followed about possible cars owned by the MBR membership that would enter such an event. Dave also knows a person who would be available as a rallycross safety steward. The nearest rallycross events are held in the Finger Lakes region. Due to various delays for vacations and other concerns, KV reported that the shirt, hoodie, and cap merchandise quotes are not yet available. She is hoping to have more information available for the next meeting. 8 continued on p.9
June meeting minutes continued New Business: Rich Hall announced that the Antique Car Club show is Sunday, June 14th in Waterford. No other new business was brought to the attention of the membership. Rich Hall moved to adjourn the meeting, and the motion was seconded by Lance Dunn. Respectfully submitted for approval, Kathy Vanderwende, Acting Secretary (this time) Bill s BS continued June ended with rain everywhere, including Watkins Glen for the 6 Hour, and of course, Lake Erie Speedway. 28 of us diehards got in 7 runs. Deb Young beat both brother Aaron and father Henry. Christian Peehler went home to Tonawanda with lots of prizes, PAX, FTD, duct tape and bent fenders. Pushkar Joshi was very pleased to win the Novice Class. He has also been down to Pitt Race for the Track Nights in America. I congratulate everyone who stuck it out. We were cold, we were wet, but we still had fun! Charlie Campbell had a very successful Majors at the Glen, Bob Mazza, not so much. Full report next month. Coming up next is the fabulous Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix. Fantastic old sportscars racing in Schenley Park. Row upon row of beautiful cars lined up on the golf course and admission is FREE! Of course, our Solo at LES is pretty special too. So Pittsburgh Saturday, LES Sunday. Meanwhile, I will be back at the Glen for the Northeast Divisional sponsored by Mazza Vineyards. July ends with the Neohio Solo on Saturday at Lakeland Community College, while WNY has a Novice School and Test & Tune the same day, plus their usual Solo on Sunday at Ralph Wilson Stadium. August will be super busy, starting with Indy Cars and Pirelli World Challenge GT at Mid-Ohio. Don t miss our Monthly Meeting! We almost did not have a quorum in July, and I will be at the Nurburgring. Mahoning Valley has invited us to their Monthly Meeting and Picnic, August 11th at Pitt Race with Track Night in America. Admission and parade laps are free. Cruise the new South Track, or enter TNIA for some Real Fast Fun!. Next, we have our 6th Solo at LES, or you could go back to Mid-Ohio to see Trans-Am, PWC Touring Cars, and the Nationwide 200. Or, you could see the SCCA Majors races at the new full track at Pitt Race. Too many choices!!! The month finishes with Cruisetown Erie on Friday, August 28th from 6 to 10 PM and our Solo #7. September has the big SCCA National Championships. ProSolo is first on the 5th & 6th, with the Solo National Championship on the 8th to the 11th. Over 1,000 autocrossers descend on Lincoln, NE. The Runoffs will return to Daytona Speedway after 46 years the 21st to the 27th with Spec Miata racing under the lights. All of these will be broadcast live on the internet. Should be spectacular! Of course, we still have our Solo #8 on the 13th and our Out of Region Solo with Neohio on the 27th. Steel Cities will host their Regional races at Pitt Race on the 19th & 20th. October brings our last Solo of the year on the 4th. Remember that you must be a Misery Bay member and have entered 5 events to be eligible for a class championship. The racing season ends at Mid-Ohio with Ohio Valley Region s PDX on the 9th and their Regional races the 10th & 11th. Plan now for our Covered Bridge Rally on the 25th. Remember, one of the greatest perks of being an SCCA member, is that you can volunteer to work big professional races and get closer to the action than any ticket that you could possibly buy! See You Out There! Bill 9
