It is worth reflecting on the fact that it is a privilege to be part of this wonderful Society and to be able to enjoy the game we love with friends and colleagues and sharing such special camaraderie. Work on greens and temporary greens at PCC As you know, all the greens at our home club, PCC, are about to be redone from the end of July 2018. The work will take approximately six months. This means that during the period of work on the greens there will be temporary greens. Our Committee has decided to express its loyalty to our home club by playing at least three of the five games scheduled during these six months at PCC on the temporary greens. I have also indicated that we would like your feedback on the playing conditions of the course with the temporary greens, but we believe that it is a relatively small sacrifice to make for a club which has treated us well over the years and is proud to serve as our home club. Participation at games active player / stakers
2 Our participation at games have dropped somewhat during the last few weeks and I would like to urge all members to participate in as many games as possible. The success of our Society depends on active participation and that is why we require a player who enjoys active player status to play at least 50% of the scheduled games per year. We have always prided ourselves as a Society with a high percentage of participation and I would like this trend to continue. Tenth anniversary and Gala Dinner 10 October 2018 Please reserve 10 October 2018. It is the tenth anniversary of the Gauteng North Society and our Committee has decided to make it a special fun day of golf with many sponsored prizes, a special four-ball alliance competition with a few invited guests from other provinces, followed by a gala dinner with our spouses. We have already received a number of prizes / sponsorship donations from some of our members, for which we are very grateful. We do, however, still require a number of prizes / sponsorship donations and I call upon your generosity in this regard. Please note that if you donate a prize, it should comprise of four individual prizes as it will be a four-ball alliance. If a cash amount is sponsored, please take into account that it should be sufficient to make up four cash prizes or enable the Committee to buy four prizes. Mike Silberman and his sub-committee are in the process of organising a great day of golf and gala dinner and we would like all our members to participate in this special day in the history of our society. We will provide you with more detail about this event in due course. Postponed society championship Due to the fact that our tenth anniversary game will be a fun day played at PCC on the temporary greens, the Committee has decided to postpone the annual society championship game to the end of January/February 2019 when the championship can be played on the new greens at PCC. Quadrangular tournament in Parys 25-26 August 2018 Members have applied for entry to this popular yearly tournament. John Loftus will do the selection of the Gauteng North team of twelve players as soon as possible and inform team members accordingly. We are once again looking forward to a great weekend of golf with our colleagues from the three other societies. Across the border game at Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club on 7 June 2018 The Gauteng Seniors hosted us on 7 June 2018 for the annual across the border game leg at Royal Johannesburg on 7 June 2018. It was again a memorable day of golf played on a very special golf course. The event was superbly organised by Allan Field and his team and our thanks to them for this wonderful event.
3 Unfortunately, the Gauteng North Team lost the across the border competition by a large margin. I congratulated Alan Field and his team on their excellent win, but I vowed that we will stage a huge comeback on the second leg of the across the border competition played at PCC later this year! Prospective members Isadore Matunhire has played his six games and his application for membership has subsequently been accepted by the Committee. Isadore s induction will take place at our game at PCC on 20 June 2018.
