Homebase Notes 9/27/2018 SPAIN 2020 Are you ready for the trip of a lifetime? If so, then join us in the choir room on Tuesday, 10/9 (not this coming Tuesday but the next) at 6:30pm to learn more about our Spring Break trip next school year. There will be something for everyone- jazz and orchestra performances, a flamenco dance session and dance performance, an Arabic language immersion, and of course the opportunity to practice your Spanish and visit many culturally and historically significant sites and museums. This trip is open to all students (including alumni, meaning you can go even if you're a senior this year). See you there! Spirit Night: PAC is having a Spirit Night - Thursday, October 25, 2018-5PM- 7PM at Chick-fil-A. Come out and support the IRCHS Seniors! There will be games, appearance from the cow and Chick-fil-A will donate 10% of sales PLUS.50 cents per cookie. Spanish Competition Team Raffle: GET READY! Starting next Thursday - look for the Spanish Competition "Witches" - They will be selling raffle tickets for $1 - to win a very large... very spooky Jar of HALLOWEEN CANDY! Traffic Pattern: During peak traffic times (7AM to 8:30AM and 2PM-4PM) students may only cross the road in front used for pick up and drop off at the cross walk by the brick building. Crossing any where else will result in demerits being issued. THERE ARE NO MORE WARNINGS.
Students May not cross the road to enter cars driven to pick them up at the end of the day. Students will be issued demerits for this. This is done for the safety of students. Vehicular traffic can be heavy during these times and drivers do not always see pedestrians crossing in unmarked areas. Please work with us to keep you safe. Choir Carwash Carwash this Saturday! From 10am until 2pm in the front car loop. You can buy a five-dollar ticket from any choir member, or with cash at the carwash. All funds will be used to help choir members towards performing in Carnegie Hall this March. Come out and show your support! Gamers Realm Early notice plan to play The choir is holding a fundraiser on Friday, November 2 nd to fund the trip to perform at Carnegie Hall which will take place March of 2019. The fundraiser will take place at Gamers Realm which is a location filled with video games, virtual reality games and even an escape room. The fundraiser will take place from 6pm to Midnight. The passes are only 25 dollars, with funds going to support choir members. When you purchase your passes, PLEASE don t forget to say I AM SUPPORTING IRCHS CHOIR in order to make sure the Choir receives their portion of the funds! Game On! Vero Beach Rowing Club: Are you interested in learning how to Row? The Vero Beach Rowing Club is made up of 9 12 th grade students from all around Indian River County. You do not need to have any previous experience. The team practices Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday from 4 6 in the afternoon and Saturdays from 8-10 through December 14 th. VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING GRADUATION STUDENTS WHO HAVE NOT PASSED THE ALGEBRA 1 EOC FOR GRADUATION MUST ATTEND A PERT REVIEW NEXT FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 28TH AT 1:30 (AFTER HOMEBASE) WITH MR. MEZZINA IN ROOM 301. THEN WE WILL BE OFFERING THE MATH PORTION OF THE PERT ON FRIDAY, OCTOBER 12TH AT 8 A.M. to give you an opportunity to pass this state requirement. If you pass the math portion of the PERT it will count as a Pass for the Algebra 1 EOC Photo Retake day: Photo retake day is Friday September 28th (next Friday) If you missed photo day in August, you must get your photo taken! If you are missing your school ID, it is most likely because you were not photographed. Please go during your break or during your English class. If you do NOT have a break or do not have English class here at IRCHS, please go at the beginning of homebase. Students & Employees- photographers will be here on campus from 7:30am- 1:30pm Homecoming Dance The 2018 homecoming dance is going to be Saturday October 20th, 2018! 6:00pm -10:pm! Join us for a 20's-style GATSBY BASH! Snacks & drinks will be served! What is the dress code for homecoming? For girls: dresses should be appropriate, strapless is allowed. The dress does not have to be in "dress code" BUT should be appropriate and cover all areas comfortably. Use your best judgment & come see Ms. Strazzulla if you have specific questions. Skirts/ nice pants are fine, NO JEANS. For guys: No jeans are allowed. Guys should wear nice pants and a nice, button-up shirt with a tie or bow tie. No T-shirts/casual polo's. Again, NO JEANS. ALL: You must wear appropriate shoes, no flip flops or sneakers! (use your best judgment, this is flexible depending on the shoe) What if I would like to bring a date from another school?
You MUST get the guest form from the front office and have it SIGNED and APPROVED by October 15th (if tickets are not sold out by then). Tickets are first come first serve and you are not allowed to buy a ticket for a guest unless the form has been fully filled out and approved by the other person's school AND Ms. Aversa. If you are wanting to bring a guest from another school, please note that the person can NOT be older than 20 years of age. Where is homecoming? First Presbyterian Church Address: 520 Royal Palm Blvd, Vero Beach, FL 32960 How much is a ticket and where can I buy tickets? Tickets are on sale starting NEXT WEEK THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 27th! For the FIRST TWO DAYS (9/27 & 9/28) tickets will be sold to JUNIORS & SENIORS ONLY Starting Monday, October 1st all grades may purchase tickets. Tickets are $15 for a single ticket and $30 for a couple's ticket. They will be sold in the IRCHS Cashier's office room 120. Tickets are first come-first serve and are expected to sell out by October 15th at the latest. All grades are welcome. What if I would like to run for homecoming court? (Queen, King, Princess, or Prince) The nomination voting will take place October 8th - 12th. Nominations will be announced October 12th during homebase. Go ahead & hang your posters! If you are NOT nominated, you must remove all posters starting the 12th or you will receive demerits (please recycle!) Here are the rules for court. ONLY Seniors can win King or Queen ONLY Juniors can win Princess or Prince If you win Homecoming Princess or Prince as a Junior, you can NOT win homecoming King or Queen as a Senior If you would like to put up flyers, you may do so. They MUST all be taken down by Monday, October 22nd. You MAY NOT send mass emails to students/teachers to promote yourself. If you send a mass email, you will be disqualified from running.
If you were not elected to the homecoming court during the nomination round, you must take your flyers down by October 12th after homebase to avoid confusion. Homecoming WEEK OF THE WOLF Monday 10/15: Social Switch Day- Dress like you've never dressed before! Trade your band T's for a pair of cowboy boots and your skirts/dresses for some graphic T's. This day is the day to be different & have fun! Try something new & remember, please don't be offensive! After all, here at charter we love and accept ALL. Clothes are just Clothes, so let's just have some fun! Tuesday 10/16: Tacky Tourist day - Just like it sounds, dress in your favorite tacky tourist style! Bring on the Hawaiian T's & shades! Wednesday 10/17: MEME Day - You asked, we obliged! Meme day is a day where students dress up as characters from viral videos and images for a day! Please, you must be appropriate, if any student is dressed inappropriately they will receive a dress code ticket & 5 demerits. Thursday 10/18: Fandom Day - Come to school dressed in Disney, Harry Potter, super hero apparel, or as your favorite TV show character. No full costumes, please. Friday 10/19: School Spirit Day/Twin Day! - Juniors and Seniors are welcome to come to school in their Powder Puff shirts as well as school appropriate bottoms. Small face paint is OK, no body paint until the game, please. The rest of the school can wear our school colors (Ivory & Hunter Green) AND/OR do Twin Day! It's simple, classic, and fun. Match with a friend or a group of friends! Get creative! Friday is also our Carnival & Powderpuff game! These days are FUN! Don't ruin them for others by: - Coming to school in clothing that does not adhere to the IRCHS dress code - Wearing a costume on ANY of the days - Being rude/ making fun of the way others choose to celebrate the week Contact Ms. Strazzulla with any questions! The senior trip this year will be traveling to Atlantis in the Bahamas! We will be having an informational meeting for students on Friday, September 28 at 1:05 (directly following Homebase) in Room 612 (Mr. Smith's Classroom). Please plan to attend if you are interested in going on the trip. If you are unable to attend, please see Ms. Kafer or Ms. Strazzulla for information. All Seniors and International Students are welcome to attend! GRAD BASH! Seniors and International Students, please remember that the deposit for Grad Bash of $50 is due by October 12. Please pay Mrs. Havens in Room 120. Please see Ms. Kafer if you have any questions. Blood Drive: The FIRST BLOOD DRIVE of the year is rapidly approaching! It will be on Friday October 12th from 9am-3pm. All donors will receive a free t-shirt and wellness checkup as well as pizza! Remember you can earn 10 volunteer hours for donating blood, (only once per school year, save your donor cards!) You must be 16 years old, weigh 110 pounds and have a release form signed by your parent. International students are not eligible due to One Blood health requirements. Release forms are available from the front office or Mrs. Jessica Kelly s room (Room 109). A Google doc will be shared with all students that allows you to sign up for an appointment. Remember, you MUST choose an appointment during a break or lunch. You may not skip classes to donate. If for some reason, the second bus does not show up again, then you are still not excused from classes to stand in line all day! Make sure that you are hydrated and well fed before donating. Key Club: There will be a Key Club meeting in the choir room during lunch on Monday and we have much to discuss. Carnival Attention Homebases! The Fall Carnival is coming soon! Booths will be open from 5pm to 7pm, immediately after the Powder Puff game. Tickets will be $0.50 and must be used as the only payment method, so prices will need to be set using tickets. All homebases should have a booth of either games or food. Please email Mrs Jessica Kelly or Mrs Moreaux with your booth choices ASAP. More details will be coming soon! Have a great weekend!
