The Bulldogs made an earlier trip to the Los Angeles area when bad weather forced Gonzaga and Pepperdine to flip-flop their WCC series with GU going South in early March and Pepperdine coming to Spokane in late May. Last season Gonzaga swept their series with the Lions in Spokane and two seasons ago the Bulldogs won two of three in Los Angeles when the schools were in the same division. Loyola Marymount later won three games in Spokane that season but the Bulldogs still won their first-ever WCC Coast Division title. The series will take place with one game on Thursday and two games on Saturday. LMU does not permit games to be played on Good Friday or Easter Sunday. Following the weekend trip Gonzaga will face Whitworth in their first home game not at August/A.R.T. Stadium. The school will announce later this week where the remaining home games will be played for the 2003 season. BASEBALL ACTION ENDS AT AUGUST/A.R.T. STADIUM: Opened on April 7, 1967 as Pecarovich Field, Gonzaga played its final baseball games over the weekend at August/A.R.T. Stadium. The Bulldogs will now play the remainder of their home schedule at a local site as the Gonzaga University Board of Trustees voted on Friday to begin construction on a new basketball arena and baseball complex. The basketball arena will be located on the site of the current baseball diamond with the new baseball complex scheduled to be built on the site of the old U.S. Postal Annex, located on the south side of the Gonzaga campus adjacent to Trent Avenue. In their final week of competition as August/A.R.T. Stadium the Bulldogs posted a 2-3 record to end 2003 home action at 5-5 overall. GU won non-conference games against Washington State and Lewis-Clark State before losing a WCC series against San Francisco. Highlighting the week of action was senior Eric Rodland who became the school s career hits leader on Tuesday with two hits against Washington State. Rodland now has 247 career hits at Gonzaga as he broke the school record held by Jim Carnell during the 1980-83 seasons.

UNLIKELY HERO GETS WIN: Freshman Nate Williams put himself into the spotlight on Wednesday afternoon as he made his first collegiate start and picked up his first win against Lewis-Clark State. Williams held the NAIA s No. 2 team in check for five innings as he left the contest with a 4-3 lead, Gonzaga winning the game 7-3. Williams has now worked in seven games this season with a 4.15 ERA. REDING GETS A WEEKDAY CALL: Junior pitcher Matt Reding also got a call to the starting rotation this week as he worked Tuesday s game against Washington State. RODLAND NEW HITS KING: Senior Eric Rodland now ranks as the Gonzaga career hits leader after breaking the record on Tuesday against Washington State. Rodland collected both hits in the Bulldogs eight-run third inning as he doubled early in the inning to tie the record before a single through the infield gave him the new school mark. OREGON STATE GAME CHANGE: Fans are advised that Gonzaga s two game series with Oregon State has been moved from May 13 and 14 to May 20 and 21 in Spokane.
