GR-RRR 8 R Wichita Pontiac Club s Monthly Publication October 2017 I hope everyone that attended the Uprising had as much fun as I did! Thank you to everyone in the club that made this one as successful as it was. A special thank you and shout out to the amazing volunteers at SRCA Dragstrip for working so hard to make everything run as smoothly as possible. You all did awesome!! We are so lucky to be able to race at such a well kept track that cares about its racers! Can t wait for next year. The pictures in this newsletter are a mixture of pictures taken by me, Don and Janice Duryea and Jean Nance. Thank you for taking such great pictures!! I would also like to thank the tech session speakers Don Keefe and Steve Barcek for taking time out of their busy schedules to come share their love of Pontiacs with us. Thank you Doug the DJ for coming and providing some tunes for the car show! All in all it was a wonderful year and I can t wait to see what is in store for next year!
One more Uprising over and done with. Last year we had 36 show cars, this year 55. Maybe next year we will have to get the second building for the car show. Last year we had 49 race cars and this year we had 65. We are growing! So many people put so much time and energy into our event. Members who got sponsorship money and door prizes, those that did awesome handy work on items for silent auction and raffle and those that took numerous pictures. We had homemade cookies for the tech session and silent auction, great barbeque, great speakers (Don Keefe, Poncho Perfection and Steve Barcek, Pontiac Heaven). Don and Ann were escaping the path of Irma. GREAT NEWS! When they got home, they had no damage. Steve brought his two dogs in his 72 GTO. They were so loveable and well behaved! John and Dianne Johnson from GTOAA had their doggie too. Always great to see returning Pontiac people with their cars and better to see new faces and cars. Weather was great, track was great and better yet, no mishaps on the track. Thank you SCRA volunteers! I am doing better at picking a car for President s Choice. I don t really have any guidelines, I just see a car and like it. After all it is my choice. I would like to thank my daughter for being my right-hand, go-to person on Friday to help get so much done. Thank you Deanna! [Editor s note: You're welcome Mom!] Thank you to the rest of my family for helping with awards, t-shirts, goodie bags and my sanity. Looking forward to another year in Great Bend! Don t forget the Poker Run on October 7th. Meeting at Town and Country on West Kellogg at 8:00 am for breakfast and then off for a fun day of driving our cars. Next meeting is November 12th at 12:30 pm at the Milton Community Building. Chili will be served. BYOD (Bring Your Own Drinks), water will be provided. Attendees are asked to bring chili fixin s (cheese, crackers, dessert, etc.) Please contact me with what you will bring so we can make sure everything is covered. ~Rita President Rita Jones
By: Eleanor Hall A great big shout out and heartfelt thanks to the GTO club members who helped get Ray s 1957 Pontiac Star Chief unlocked at the Great Bend motel when we were there for the Uprising! Ray had changed out the ignition switch and forgot that he would need that older key when we locked the car. Dan Jones was the expert with the coat hanger who got the job done, with lots of help from all the onlookers. As a side note, we stopped in Great Bend to gas up before heading home. The water pump chose that time to go out! At least we weren t stranded on the highway. We talked with club Prez Rita Jones who made some calls and let us know where to take the car for repairs, to Dove s Chevrolet just a few blocks away. They fixed the car the following week, and Jim and I went back to Great Bend and Jim drove the old Pontiac home the following Saturday without incident. Pontiac people are GR-RRR 8!
Thank you to our two wonderful speakers at the tech session! Don Keefe (right) from Poncho Perfection and Steve Barcak (left) with Pontiac Heaven. The picture above is an areal shot of Pontiac Heaven showing how many Pontiacs he has rescued! Also thank you to John Johnson for representing GTOAA at our regional event!
Our wonderful DJ Doug! The three award winners! Top: President s Choice Right: Best of Show Left: Tri-Power Cap Proffitt Memorial
