If you are a young artist, photographer, vocalist, dancer, have a teen band or other Art, Music or Dance talent, you could win an award at the 2014 Norwalk Town Square Youth Festival of Arts! The purpose of the competition is to recognize the visual and performing art achievements of area youth and to encourage community support of Art, Music and Dance education. Norwalk Town Square will make a $100 donation to each school represented by a minimum of 10 student entries in one, or a combination of, Art and Performance categories. Art entry submission and performance auditions are Saturday, May 24, 2014. The Youth Festival of Arts featuring the student art exhibit, performance competition finals, and winner presentations is Saturday, May 31, 2014. Entry Information Entry is free. Any student enrolled in grades K-12 in public, private, or home school within the cities of Norwalk and La Mirada, California area is eligible to enter. Each student may submit ONE entry in the Art Competition and/or ONE entry in the Vocalist, Musician or Dance Performance Competition. ART COMPETITION INFORMATION Artwork Eligibility Only two-dimensional, student-created artwork is eligible. Entries that have been electronically produced or altered in any way are not eligible. Reproductions and prints are not allowed except in printmaking entries. Artwork must be completely dry. Maximum entry size is 4 (48 ) x 5 (60 ). Eligible entries include: General Artwork Oil, acrylic, water color, tempera Pen, ink, pencil, markers Colored chalk, crayon, pastels, charcoal Printmaking, stencil making Mixed media combination of any of the above and photography How to Enter Photography Photographs that include sculptures, statues, paintings, and other works of art will be accepted as long as they do not constitute copyright infringement. Art Awards The Art Award winners will be selected by a Jury with expertise in multiple visual arts genres. The winners will be announced and presented with their prizes at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 31 at the Norwalk Town Square Youth Festival of Arts. In addition to the Jury selected winners, people who view the displayed art & photography on May 31 can vote for the People s Choice Awards; $50 to one of the elementary, middle and high school artists. PERFORMANCE COMPETITION INFORMATION 1. Each student can enter only ONE performance category (Dance, Vocalist or Musician) within a school grade division: elementary, middle or high school. However, a student can also submit an artwork or photography entry. 2. Duos, trio or performance groups comprised of cross-over school grade youth, such as a mix of middle and high school students, must enter the highest grade level category. 3. All students must audition on Saturday, May 24. Finalists selected at the auditions will compete for the opportunity to win prizes on Saturday, May 31. Dance Category Rules Solo dancers, duos or dance groups may enter this category. Soloists, duos and dance groups will compete against each other within each school grade division. Dressing rooms are NOT available so please wear your performance attire. Vocal Category Rules Single, duet or vocalist groups may enter this category. Contestants in this category may: Sing a cappella Sing to a music track using USB Stick, iphone, ipad or CD Play a single instrument as they sing Be accompanied by a single musician as they sing; the judges will award points based on the vocal performance, not for the musician Single, duet and group vocalists will compete against each other within each school grade division. Vocalists accompanied by more than one musical instrument are not eligible for this category but can enter the Musician Category. Music Category Rules Single musicians, duos, trios and musical groups, with or without vocalists, may enter this category. Musicians can bring their own sound system but reminder that limited power access is available. You will have up to 2 ½ minutes to audition. The audition panel has the option to request longer performances from some contestants. The audition panel will announce finalists after each category: Dancers, Vocalists and Musicians. The number of finalists selected in each category will be determined by the selection panel. If a selected finalist(s) cannot compete on May 31, the next highest scoring entry in the category and school division will replace that finalist(s). As space permits, the public can view the performance auditions. Performance Finals The finals will be held by school grade division on May 31: Dancer Award Finals begin at 12 p.m. Vocalist Award Finals begin at 1:30 p.m. Musician Award Finals begin at 3 p.m. Norwalk Town Square will provide the following: Sound system and sound tech to play music from USB Stick, iphone, ipad or CD for dance and vocal performances without instruments.
