The Ten Golden Rules Of Pennant Match Plans In our Training, Development, Practice and Maintenance sessions there lies a set of 10 Golden Rules, they are in Point format: 1. Players understand the Role of their selected Position within the Match Plans 2. Accepting the Responsibility of the outcome of their attempts 3. Be appropriately prepared and ready to play from the first End of the Match. 4. The Team to have two bowls in the Head - ASAP 5. Conversion attempts only after 2 bowls in the Head 6. When holding Shot - finish wide of the shot Bowl in the Head. 7. Look for possible multiple scores - opportunities or threats 8. Cover the threats before attempting to convert the opportunities of scoring multiples 9. Skips select and call the shot with the highest probability of success 10. Skips and/or the Directors of the Head to consider the options then give.. a single call in clear and concise terms It should go without saying that all actions, comments and reactions are to be in the Positive so that the Pre-Delivery routine can attend to any adjustment. Be a Winner Leave the negativity and excuses to the losers the opposition Page 2 BBC News, September 2016
W ell the new pennant season is almost here so it is time to get in some serious practice and training to improve on what was a very successful previous year. As a side moves up a division it needs about 8% improvement to just stay competitive, so this is at least the improvement our coaches will be trying to help us with, but the onus is on each of us to put in the time and effort to move up a level. As you may know a bowls club is judged by its peers as to the division its top side plays in and at this stage I believe our rightful place is a 1st. division club. With 5 Saturday sides this year the selectors will have quite a hard job and will be trying to select sides that benefit the club overall. If any member has any issues to do with selection ask a selector to arrange a meeting with the committee to resolve the issue. On behalf of the Bowls Committee I would like to welcome all of our new pennant players and wish them along with our older players a great and successful season. Remember to improve we need to practice and the more we practice the luckier we become. Cheers Doug Clarke President Bowls Committee Executive Director Hello Bowlers. We are once again closing in on a new pennant season. I wish you all good bowling and all the very best for the upcoming season. Last pennant season was a great one for the Club and I hope that we can replicate it again this year. Bowlers please endeavour to attend Thursday afternoon Pennant practice, or if this time is not suitable please discuss an alternative with our coaches. As with any sport, improvement only comes with practice and plenty of it. Thanks to Ian Jack for editing this Newsletter over the past couple of years, due to his absence from Melbourne for an indefinite period of time Ian has resigned his position and our new editor is Albert Taylor. Thanks for stepping in Albert. Terry O Toole has resigned from the Board of Management due to his relocation to Pakenham and he has been replaced by Maureen Hodgkisson. Good Bowling. New Board member Following the resignation Terry O,Toole, Maureen Hodgkisson (right) has accepted the position of committee member on the Board of Management. Sponsorship Officer Jane Cumming has accepted the position of Sponsorship Officer. We wish both Maureen and Jane all the best in their new roles. All pennant players are reminded to makes sure that the club rings on bowls are not missing or damaged. New rings are available. Be sure that the ring on the bias side (small ring), does not cover the world bowls symbol and the bowl number. DRAINED MEMORY O nce I made chicken soup simmered the carcass for hours with lots of vegetables, writes Teaswiss on the senior moments thread of reddit.com. Then, when it was all nice and tasty, I grabbed a colander and poured all the liquid down the sink. I just stood there for about five minutes, staring at the bones, trying to remember what the next step in soup-making was. FUNCTIONS ARE FUN We always looking for people to help at functions, which can be good fun because everyone there is intent on enjoying themselves, so why not join our function staff and spread the load. We need bar staff, and training will be provided; bowlers to help show the barefoot people what to do and explain the game to them (remember, they know nothing, so to them you are an expert!); and people to help with catering, which depends on the type of function... laying out the buffet spit roast which comes all prepared; preparing salads, where we buy as much ready prepared ingredients as we can, as we do with sweets; heating up pies etc and putting them on platters; cooking the BBQ; cleaning up. None of this is rocket science stuff! But as the better weather arrives and Christmas approached we can get pretty busy. My Contact details are in the yellow book if you don t see me around. Thanks, Alistair Smith, Functions Coordinator. SEPTEMBER BOOKINGS After a fairly busy winter period, September is shaping up to be a quiet month with the only outside function booked so far the regular Soul Club night on the second Saturday of the month, i.e. September 10.
