Louisville High School Marching Band www.theprideoflouisville.com Dear Color Guard Candidates, Congratulations on taking the next step in trying out for the Louisville High School Color Guard! Color Guard is much more than a spirit activity. You have the opportunity to become a leader and a role model to your peers, your coach, your directors and your community. Your dedication to the group will be of high importance and will last until the END of the school year. Please do not enter into this endeavor without considering the following information. The main objective of the Color Guard is to provide color and excitement to the marching band performances. Your job is to promote constructive school spirit, and develop good sportsmanship and self-esteem while working together as a cohesive group with the band. As an individual and a member of the Guard, you can fulfill this role as long as you have an attitude of respect, friendliness, and fairness. You will be expected to give a great deal of yourself throughout this experience, but the experience is an opportunity of a lifetime. As a Color Guard member, you are in a highly visible position and your everyday conduct becomes extremely important. You must remember that you represent the Louisville High School Marching Band at all times wherever you go and in whatever you do. Therefore, members of this line are expected to adhere to high standards of performance and character not just as a member of the line, but also during their academic and personal life. Color Guard is fun and will be one of the best things you will ever do but it is physically, emotionally, and mentally demanding. You are under pressure to be your best because you project the image of Louisville High School Marching Band in and out of uniform. We want the absolute best representing us and now the rest is up to you. Please make sure that you are ready for the responsibility before you make the commitment. In this informational packet, you will find all the necessary information regarding this year s Color Guard tryouts. This packet introduces you to the long and short of everything and more details will follow tryouts. We are glad you want to be part of this organization and look forward to seeing you at tryouts. Best of Luck! Mr. Kristopher Bleininger LHS Band Director kbleininger@lepapps.org Mrs. Sarah Faiello LHS Color Guard Advisor sfaiello@lepapps.org 2/17 1

It can be very difficult to juggle this around other activities or commitments. June: Tuesday and Thursday 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon *We will learn most of the choreography during June. Schedule work around these times. July: The first week of July is completely free. Mandatory Color Guard Camp begins July 10th - July 14th from 8:00 a.m. to noon. Mandatory practices with the full band will begin July 17 th - 21 st. We will attend a mandatory 5-day camp at Bethany College, West Virginia, from July 25 to July 29, 2016. Camp is not optional and is mandatory for all members in order to remain on the squad. August: Monday through Thursday 8:00 a.m. to noon. at the high school. These are mandatory. During marching band season, practice is held after school Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday until 5:00 p.m. Football games are on Fridays. Band competitions are on most Saturdays in September and October. Schedule appointments on Tuesdays when there is no practice. Part One: Short Individual Routine Each girl will draw a number. Judges will know them only by number. Girls will individually perform a routine, marching and strutting for the judges. The solo routine should consist of a variety of skills and multiple batons. A list of tricks to include in your individual routine is listed on the next page. These are not mandatory tricks. The routine should be choreographed with music and last 2-3 minutes.
