We ve had an active and windy month of sailing and buccaneering in October and continuing with a very active November beginning with both of our monthly meetings shuf>led in with our Rum Race and Lemon Point sail and ending with a cruise at Crescent Lake the weekend before Thanksgiving Holiday. SECRETARY S REPORT FOR THE NOVEMBER 2017 NEWSLETTER Minutes of the business meeting at the October 19, 2017 Pot-Luck Dinner Commodore John Cicio was not able to a2end, so the meeong was run by our trusty Vice-Commodore, Jim Edens. He did a wonderful job filling in. The meeong had 19 in a2endance, and was held at the beauoful home of Sandra Harton and Jim Tally. Thanks again for hosong. The treasurer s report was brief: No acovity for the month of September, and the balance was $2920.12. The first Rum Race was held on Sunday, Oct. 1 st at Sim s beach. It was a very wind day, and we were only able to get one race off. Some say it was blowing nearly 18 knots! The Sunset Harbor Challenge was held on Saturday, Oct. 14 th. The weather was perfect, and everyone had a blast! Paul was the 1 st Harpoon to finish, followed by Ed and Lynn in 2 nd, and Art in 3 rd. The Open Class was led by Mike Loughlin in a San Juan. Jeff Herter was the only Planning Hull, and Jim and Lisa took the MulOhull Class, followed by Rich Rayburn for 2 nd, and Bob Cole in 3 rd. The Hobie Wave Class was led by Terry Warren, followed by Nelson Wright and Yarda Solc. Respectfully submitted Lisa Edens - Secretary The third Rum Race will take place this Saturday, Nov. 4 th at Sim s beach. Look for your Evite. The race will be followed by our annual Margartaville Pot Luck meeong. The new locaoon for the event will be Ed and Lynn s house - thank you so much for last minute hos2ng!! Raffle Ockets were sold, and the following were recipients of lo2o Ockets: Mai, Lisa, Bob, Ed, Sandra, Liz and Bobbie. The 50/50 raffle was won by Rock. Congrats to all! This event took place at Sims Beach and our club is forever grateful for their generous support of this annual event. We launched from their beach and sailed around Lake Weir. The Challenge began and ended at Sunset Harbor. Our friendly Sheriff s office at Ocklawaha was nice enough to have an officer on the water for this year s event to add assistance to our own safety boats. Mark and Bobbie Ciraco once again set marks and kept a watchful eye out on the water during the race as did John Hult & Jeni and John Cicio. Page 6

The Multihulls were the last to go and the first to come in, zipping along in that great breeze! Page 8

The wind was great, the skies were fair and the 9+ mile race was over by 2:30-ish PM. Page 9
