Wayne-Westland All American Classic Wayne-Westland Figure Skating Club November 10 th, 2018 The Wayne-Westland All American Classic will be conducted in accordance with the rules and regulations of U.S. Figure Skating, as set forth in the current rulebook, as well as any pertinent updates which have been posted on the U.S. Figure Skating website. This competition is open to all eligible, restricted, reinstated or readmitted persons as defined by the Eligibility Rules and is a currently registered member of a U.S. Figure Skating member club, a collegiate club or an individual member in accordance with the current rulebook. ELIGIBILITY/TEST LEVEL: Test level: Competition level is the highest test passed as of the entry deadline, in the discipline the skater is entering. Entrants may skate one level above that for which they qualify, but they may not skate down in any event. Age restrictions/requirements: Skaters entering juvenile free skate events (Well Balanced Program) must be 12 years of age or younger as of the close of entries. Skaters entering open juvenile free skate events (Well Balanced Program), must be 13 years of age or older at the close of entries. Skaters entering beginner pre-juvenile events will be divided as closely as possible by age, should the number of entries warrant more than one group. ENTRIES: Method of entries (Online Registration Only on sk8stuff.com) Choose the Westland All American Classic Competition and follow the Registration instructions on the website. No registration is complete until payment is received. Late entries will be accepted at the discretion of the competition chair, Barbara French, and the referee. REFUND POLICY: Entry fees will not be refunded after October 31 st, 2018 unless no competition exists, or the event is canceled. There will be no refunds for medical withdrawals. The online processing fees are not refundable. Checks returned for non-sufficient funds and contested credit card charges will be issued a $ 20 fee. Payment of the fee will be required before the skater is allowed to participate in practice ice or events. Notification of competition and practice ice times will be available by online at sk8stuff.com FACILITIES: The competition will be held at The Mike Modano Ice Arena, 6210 N. Wildwood, Westland Mi. 48285. It is a one rink facility with ice surface 200ft. 85ft. The arena has a snack
bar and many local restaurants are within a few blocks. A mall and Bee s skating attire store are within blocks of the arena. Also Podium Skates Store is approximately 3 miles away. MUSIC: The competition music must be on CD only, clearly marked with the skater s name and level. Official competition music must be turned in at the registration table at the time of check-in. A duplicate CD should be readily available. Music may be picked up at the registration table following each event. Every reasonable care will be taken, but the Westland Figure Skating Club cannot be responsible for CDs left at the end of the competition. Please have separate CDs for practice and competition. LIABILITY: U.S. Figure Skating, The Westland Figure Skating Club, and The Mike Modano Ice Arena accept no responsibility for injury or damage sustained by any participant in this competition. This is in accordance with Rule 1600 of the official U.S. Figure Skating Rulebook. JUDGING SYSTEM: The 6.0 Majority Judging System will be used for: - Well Balanced Program free skate events, pre-preliminary open-juvenile - Introductory free skate events (beginner, high beginner, no-test) - All Excel Track Events - All specialty singles events (spins, jumps, compulsory moves, etc.) - All solo dance events REGISTRATION: Registration will begin on Sat. Nov. 10 th, 2018. Registration will be open 1 hour before the first event and run through the last event of the day. The registration table will be located in the lobby. Please register promptly upon arrival. LOCKER ROOMS AND CHANGING AREAS: U.S. Figure Skating Specific policies regarding the use of mobile digital devices (e.g. mobile phones) and prohibiting the use of all recording and photographic devices Locker Rooms/Changing Areas: If the All-American Classic consists of both female and male participants, both female and male athletes will be designated to go into their appropriate locker room and changing arrangements will be made if necessary. If separate locker rooms are not available, the skaters will take turns using the locker room to change or use the appropriate restroom within the facility. There will be no Locke Room warm-up areas available for athletes. In the event of a medical situation or emergency, U.S. Figure Skating officials working on behalf of the event (such as doctor, physical therapist, chief referee) or emergency medical personnel will be permitted into the locker room/changing area. The use of any recording and photographic devices inside a locker room/changing area is strictly prohibited. Locker rooms and changing areas at U.S. Figure Skating competitive events are for athletes only, will be labeled with regard to specific use and where identified will be gender specific. An exception can be made for athletes 11 years old and younger that will allow for one parent of the same sex to assist their child immediately prior to and after their skating event(s). Any violation of this policy will be addressed under the U.S. Figure Skating SafeSport Program and U.S. Figure Skating Ethics/Grievance procedures.
PRACTICE ICE: Practice ice times will be determined and be posted online after registration is closed. Skaters who pre-paid for practice ice at registration will be able to sign up online, approximately one week before the competition, for their session(s). Drop-in skaters will be allowed if space permits. Practice ice is $10 for 25 minutes. No Music will be played. PHOTOGRAPHY/VIDEOGRAPHY: To thank you for participating in the Wayne-Westland All American Classic you will receive a free DVD of each of your registered flights. This is being offered by the Westland Figure Skating Club and Ledin Video. Please pick up your free DVD at the Ledin table at the far-right end of the rink following the posting of results AWARDS: Awards will be presented for 1st -8 th place. The location will be inside the rink, there will be signs posted to tell the athletes and their coaches where to go. OFFICIAL NOTICES: An official bulletin board will be maintained in the lobby. It is the responsibility of each competitor, parent and coach to check the bulletin board frequently for any schedule changes and/or additional information. Skaters are requested to arrive 1 hour prior to the scheduled time of their event. A tentative schedule of events will be posted prior to the competition. IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR ALL COACHES: To be a credentialed coach at a sanctioned nonqualifying competition, coaches must meet the following requirements: Coaching U.S. Figure Skating athletes: Current member in good standing with U.S. Figure Skating Completed background check (green light status) Completed SafeSport Training* Continuing Education Requirements (CERs) for the 2018-19 Competition Season Proof of current general liability insurance with limits of $1 million per occurrence/$5 million aggregate. Coaching Compete USA athletes: Learn to Skate USA Instructor membership OR U.S. Figure Skating full membership Completed SafeSport Training* (for coaches 18 years old and over) Completed background check (green light status) (for coaches 18 years old and over) Learn to Skate USA Instructor Certification completed (for coaches under 18 years old) *SafeSport training is available through www.usfsaonline.org for full members of U.S. Figure Skating (through Learn to Skate USA portal for instructors). There is no cost to this training and certification is valid for 2 seasons The LOC will have a list of compliant coaches who are approved to receive a credential at the competition. Coaches will need to check in at the event registration desk and show a government issued photo I.D. to receive a credential. If a coach cannot provide a photo I.D. and is not on the list or cannot produce the necessary documents, he or she will not be allowed a credential. There can be no exceptions to this policy. If a foreign coach has only foreign athletes at your competition, a background check and SafeSport Training is not required. Instead, the coach must submit a letter from their Federation stating they are a member in good standing.
