Earn & Learn Throughout this Term the grades 4/5 and 6 classes have been involved in a financial awareness program called Earn and Learn. Throughout the program the students operate in a similar way to a small town or community. They develop vocabulary related to money, letter writing skills, they write applications for jobs, work in a team and learn how to negotiate. The students receive a weekly payment for their work and may also gain extra money by taking on extra responsibilities such as being a banker, librarian etc. The students also learn about expenses by paying rent for example. Last week they went through a process of developing games for others to pay, then they charged people to participate in their game. The idea was to market their game and attract customers. In the coming weeks this concept will be taken further and they will get to create their own stalls/stores to sell products. Miss Hickey and Mr Campbell have sent out a note explaining all this. At the culmination of this unit towards the end of term we will have a market day where parents will be invited to observe and participate. Stay tuned for this date. The photos below show the students participating in the games session. State Football trials Lochie O Brien tried out for the State team last weekend. He acquitted himself very well but did not make it through. It is a massive effort to get this far Lochie you have done yourself and the school proud. Well done! 2 Thrive, Strive and Achieve
Jacob gets onto the G Jacob Heyen was lucky enough to make it onto the MCG last Sunday to assist with the guard of honour. This was kept as a surprise for him. He absolutely loved the day and as a passionate Dees supporter the result made him even happier. Winter Sport v- Numurkah P.S. This Friday our grade 4 to 6 students will be heading off to Numurkah to participate in football and netball games against Numurkah Primary. We will have two netball teams playing and one football team. The netball will be at Numurkah Primary School but the football will be at the Numurkah football ground. All games are scheduled to commence at 1.30pm and be completed by 2.30pm. If you wish to collect your child from the venue please notify the teacher at the venue. Pink Day/Crazy Hair Day - Friday, 18 th May Last Friday we held a crazy hair day in conjunction with our annual Pink Day to raise awareness for breast cancer. The students arrived with a variety of crazy hairstyles and all types of pink clothing. It is so pleasing to see the time and effort put in to these days by our brilliant parents. The students had made hearts the previous afternoon with Mrs Edmunds. These hearts were then displayed at the school. 3 Thrive, Strive and Achieve

Dear Parents/Guardians, This year our school is participating in Jump Rope for Heart a fantastic physical activity and fundraising program by the Heart Foundation that has been running for 35 years. Since Jump Rope for Heart started in 1983, schools like yours have raised more than $75 million for the Heart Foundation s lifesaving work. Jump Rope for Heart is a great way for your child to keep fit and learn new skills, but it also helps raise funds for vital heart research and education programs. It s important you register your child online, so they can receive the full benefits of the program and participate in online fundraising. Sign your child up for online fundraising by visiting www.jumprope.org.au Thank you for supporting the Jump Rope for Heart program! UNIFORM SURVEY School Council are currently in the midst of discussing some minor changes to our school uniform. The main items of concern are the polo shirts and jumpers. Essentially, we are looking at improving the quality of the garments which will hopefully mean a uniform with more endurance and lead to a longer lifespan. The actual colors of Katunga Primary School will not change, however the new polo top will be mainly navy blue with red sleeves and red down the sides, going away from the straight red. We are mindful that only recently there was a change with the tops and would appreciate parent s point of view. Please tick the boxes below either supporting or not supporting these changes.
