You do not have to be a 4-H member to participate. Activities are designed to be fun-filled and educational. Some activities will reflect upon our history and convey its significance to others. If you want to get a taste of 4-H, our Summer Fun Program is the perfect place to start. Registration will BEGIN May 18, 2018 Classes are Subject to Change Harnett County 4-H is able to provide these programs at a reduced cost with the help of funding from South River Electric Membership Corporation. North Carolina State University and North Carolina A&T State University commit themselves to positive action to secure equal opportunity regardless of race, color, creed, national origin, religion, sex, age, or disability. 2018 4-H Summer Fun ENROLLMENT Classes will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. We will be using an online registration form that will provide a timestamp for each registration. You will select ALL classes in which you wish for your child to participate. Email confirmation of the classes that you were successfully registered for along with an invoice for payment of what you registered will be sent with 10 days of registering online. We will use the timestamps on the electronic registrations to fill any openings that may occur during the summer. If you do not have access to the internet to enroll your child, you can drop off a hard copy at the Harnett County Cooperative Extension office. We will enter your information online for you. Parents/guardians, child care providers or youth groups may register no more than five children per class. Child care providers/youth groups attending 4-H summer programs MUST provide one ADULT to assist with supervision for the duration of the activity. When you receive your confirmation and invoice, you need to return all required forms and payment to the Harnett County Agriculture Center, Harnett County Cooperative Extension Office at 126 Alexander Drive in Lillington or mail to Harnett County 4-H, 126 Alexander Drive, Suite 300, Lillington, NC 27546. If paying in cash, PLEASE BRING THE CORRECT AMOUNT. We do not keep money on hand to make change. In the event you cannot attend a class, please notify the 4-H office as soon as possible. This will give another child the opportunity to attend the class. If you have any questions, please contact the 4-H office at (910) 893-7532. Registration will not be accepted by e-mail or over the phone. 1. Necessary refunds will be made in September.»4-H Age is determined as of January 1 st. Your child had to be 5 as of January 1, 2018 to participate. Their age as of January 1, 2018 determines their 4-H age for the year.»4-h Enrollment Form & Medical Release forms must be completed for each participant.»punctuality of all participants is expected, particularly in the case of field trips. The van will wait a maximum of 5 minutes past the scheduled departure time.»punctuality of parents/adults/guardians picking up youth following programs is MANDATORY. Youth must be picked up at the time the program ends. If 4-H staff members are required to care for your child more than 30 minutes beyond the indicated pick-up time without notification, your child will not be allowed to participate in other 4-H Summer Fun activities. >>All Harnett County 4-H Summer Fun events or activities are operating under the 4-H Code of Conduct and Disciplinary Procedure. 1. 4-H Cooking in the Kitchen Session 1 Ages: 9-14 Workshop Limit: 12 Date: June 11-14, 2018 Time: 9:00 am-noon Kitchen Cost: $20.00 Life Skill Focus: Learning to Learn, Problem Solving, Healthy Living 4-H Target: Economy, Healthy Living 4-H Cooking in the Kitchen is a four day program adapted from the Chef & The Child program started in Forsyth County. Participants will learn basic food, nutrition and cooking tips to prepare recipes they will enjoy during the workshop and be able to prepare at home. Recipes the youth will learn include Easy Pyramid Pizza, French Omelet, Ice Cream Muffins, Easy Cheesy Lasagna, Garlic Bread, and many more. 2. 4-H Cooking in the Kitchen Session 2 Ages: 9-14 Workshop Limit: 12 Date: June 11-14, 2018 Time: 2:00 pm-5:00 pm Kitchen Cost: $20.00 Life Skill Focus: Learning to Learn, Problem Solving, Healthy Living 4-H Target: Economy, Healthy Living 4-H Cooking in the Kitchen is a four day program adapted from the Chef & The Child program started in Forsyth County. We are focusing on recipes that all attending can make and enter in the North Carolina State Fair in the Youth Culinary section. Recipes will include yeast bread, quick breads, biscuits, scones and/or muffins on day 1. Recipes on day 2 will include cake, drop cookies, rolled cookies, bar cookies and/or other cookies.

4. 4-H Camp at Betsy-Jeff Penn 4-H Center Ages: 8-12 Traditional Camper Ages 13-14 Adventurer/Trekker Camper Date: June 24-29, 2018 Time: TBD Place: Meet at Harnett County Agriculture Center Cost: $440 for Traditional, $460 for Trekker Supplies Needed: Will be shared with all participants Harnett County 4-H will be attending 4-H Camp at the Betsy-Jeff Penn 4-H Center in Reidsville, North Carolina. Participants will enjoy horseback riding, swimming, canoeing, ropes course, camp fires and so much more in this 6 day, 5 night program. Please call staff at 910-893-7532 if interested in going to 4-H Camp. 5. 4-H Jr. Master Gardener Ages: 9-14 Workshop Limit: 12 Date: June 25-28, 2018 Time: 9:00 am-noon Cost: $20.00 Supplies Needed: Please wear old clothes and shoes that you don t mind getting dirty. Our Extension Master Gardeners will be using lessons from the Junior Master Gardeners Curriculum to teach youth gardening skills. Lessons will cover insects, soil, plants and so much more. This two-day workshop will get the kids outside and dirty so please make sure they wear appropriate clothes and closed toed shoes. 6. 4-H Electric Project Ages: 9-18 Workshop Limit: 15 Date: July 9, 2018 Time: 9:00 am-3:00pm Cost: $10.00 Supplies Needed: Bag Lunch Life Skill Focus: Marketable Skills, Problem Solving, 4-H Target: STEM The 4-H Electric Project for 2018 requires the completion of a circuit board to create a Super LED Flasher. Students will solder components to the circuit board to create the Super LED Flasher. This is a great introduction to the 4-H Electric Program.

7. 4-H Sport Fishing Ages: 9-18 Workshop Limit: 10 Date: July 12, 2018 from 9:00 am-noon July 13, 2018 from 8:00 am-3:00pm Cost: $20.00 Supplies Needed: Fishing pole on both days and bag lunch on July 13 Life Skill Focus: Planning/Organizing, Personal Safety, Healthy Living 4-H Target: Healthy Living The 4-H Sport Fishing workshop utilizes the 4-H fishing curriculum. On day one, we will explore types of fish & bait, practice casting, learn fishing knots and build a Pop Bottle Fishing Rod. Day two we will take a fishing trip to a catch & release body of water and hope everyone catches something with the skills that they have learned. 8. Farm to Kitchen Ages: 9-18 Workshop Limit: 12 Date: July 16-20, 2018 Time: 8:30 am-12:30 pm Cost: $40 Supplies Needed: Life Skills Focus: Healthy Living 4-H Target: Healthy Lifestyles Do you know where your food comes from? Do you like to cook? Come learn about the food on your plate from where it began! In this week long camp, participants will learn about agriculture from the ground up. After visiting local farms, picking fruits and vegetables, students will prepare those foods into delicious dishes. On the last day of camp, campers will participate in a 4-H Food Challenge Competition to see which team can prepare the best dish from mystery ingredients! Qualifying teams will be eligible to attend an Area Competition on August 10 in Lee County! 9. North Carolina 4-H Congress at NC State Ages: 13-18 Workshop Limit: 6 Date: July 21-24, 2018 Time: TBD Cost: $260 Supplies Needed: Will be shared with all participants North Carolina 4-H Congress is an event planned by elected 4-H Teens with leadership from the state 4-H Office. This is a youth development leadership, citizenship and life skill development program that includes fun workshops, dances, and so much more. 10. 4-H Cloverbud Crafts for the North Carolina State Fair Ages: 5-8 Workshop Limit: 12 Date: July 26-27, 2018 Time: 9:00 am-noon Cost: $15 Supplies Needed: None Harnett County 4-H will have multiple crafts that participants will make and can enter at the 2018 North Carolina State Fair. 11. 4-H Sewing Project Ages: 9-18 Workshop Limit: 8 Date: July 31-August 1, 2018 Time: 9:00 am-3:00pm Cost: $15 Supplies Needed: Bag Lunch If you are new to sewing or have some experience, this is the workshop for you. The 4-H Sewing Project for 2018 will focus on completing an item that can be entered at the NC State Fair. 12. 4-H Outdoor Cookery Ages: 9-18 Workshop Limit: 15 Date: August 2, 2018 Time: 9:00 am-3:00 pm Cost: $15 Supplies Needed: Bag Lunch 4-H has presentation programs you may not know about like Beef Char-grill, Chicken BBQ, Turkey BBQ, and Pork Char-grill. In this workshop participants will learn about each of these presentation areas, food safety, how to light a charcoal and gas grill, grilling techniques, indirect cooking and much more. They will then try their hand at grilling a selected cut of meat and taste different meats grilled by other participants. They will develop a marinade and/or rub for their specific cut of meat.

13. 4-H Cluster Teen Adventure (North Carolina Coast-Morehead City Area) Ages: 14-18 Workshop Limit: 4 per county Dates: August 6-7, 2018 Time: TBD Departure time and Pickup time Cost: $175 plus money for extra meals and souvenirs Supplies Needed: Clothes for 2 days including swim suite and closed toe shoes & toiletries. We will be staying at a hotel so no sleep bags or linens needed. Life Skills Focus: Social Skills 4-H Target: Citizenship This two day, one night adventure is a joint program between Cumberland, Harnett, Moore and Richmond County 4-H Programs. Highlights of the trip include pier fishing, a trip to Sandbar Island or Oyster Rehab and Pirates Revenge Ghost Float. 14. 4-H Rabbit Workshop & Skillathon Ages: 5-18 Workshop Limit: 16 Dates: August 8-9, 2018 Time: 9:00 am - noon Cost: $10 Interested in learning about rabbits? The Harnett County Rabbit and Poultry Club will teach you that rabbits are more than just cute backyard pets. Participants will learn how to care for a rabbit, rabbit breeds, showmanship and more on day one. On day two, we will have a rabbit skillathon with ribbons for all participants. We hope to see you at this workshop.
