We encourage everyone to read all the information contained in this packet. Please take note of all dates, deadlines, times, and locations. There will be a $30.00 tryout fee due with your application. Please Make Checks Payable to Coastal Carolina Cheerleading. In order to be eligible for the CCU Cheer Team you will need to either be an admitted student of enrolled in classes. You must be a full time student taking a minimum of 12 credit hours. REQUIREMENTS I. Tryout Eligibility a. Current CCU Student b. Current High School Senior or Transfer Student: Candidates who have been accepted to CCU or enrolled in classes. c. Each member must maintain a GPA of 2.O in order to remain eligible to cheer. d. Each member must enroll in minimum of 12 credit hours to remain full time. II. Fees a. All forms in tryout packed filled out completely with $30.00application/tryout fee paid to Coastal Carolina Cheerleading. b. CCU Cheer is a competitive program attending NCA College camp and NCA College National. The cost of camp is not covered by the university. The athlete is responsible for paying camp fees. c. Fundraising is a requirement and will be made mandatory throughout the season. III. Time Obligation a. Summer Practices will begin July determined at the coach s discretion. b. NCA College camp is held in Myrtle Beach, SC the first part of August. c. Practices are mandatory and will be determined after teams are formed. d. Holidays and Vacations are determined accordingly to the season games, playoffs, competitions, tournaments, and bowl games. e. CCU Cheer is a competitive program and will compete at competitions one of which will be NCA College Nationals. IV. Team Requirements a. Each member must pass a physical examination administered by the CCU Athletic Department. b. Each member must pass a skill and fitness exam each semester determined by the coaching staff to remain on the team. c. Each member will be required to attend a given number of hours in the athletic department study hall. d. Each member will be required to attend mandatory team workouts with the athletic strength and conditioning staff. e. Each member will be required to abide by the policies and procedures of Coastal Carolina and behave accordingly as a Coastal Carolina Student Athlete representing the University. V. Safety a. ACCA safety rules are applied to all athletes. b. No jewelry is allowed 5
REQUIREMENTS CONT. VI. Attire a. Black Bra and Black shorts are required for tryouts b. Hair up out of the face with a bow of your choice c. Shoes must be worn the whole time. VII. Skill requirements- Tumbling d. Standing- Standing Tuck. Jumps to handspring tuck. Jumps to Tuck. e. Running- Round off handspring Layout/full s VIII. Stunting f. Flyer- must be able to pull body positions. Full up and double down. g. Bases- must have stunting experience with advanced stunting skills such as full ups and other elite skills. h. Boys- Must have a toss hands IX. Cheer/Motions/Dance a. These will be taught at tryout clinic and performed in front of the judge s panel. b. Fight song will be taught during tryout clinic. X. Time and Location-Tryouts will be held at the main Gymnasium. HTC Center. c. Open Gym will be available Friday May 1st from 6-9 pm d. Tryout Clinic will be held Saturday May 2 rd from 9am-1pm e. Tryouts will be Sunday May 3 th at 9 am until it s over. f. Tryouts will be closed. No exceptions. g. Teams will be announced and posted later that evening. Time will be announced at tryout. XI. Video Tryouts h. A video must be submitted. Deadline is April 28 th. i. All video tryouts must include the application, acceptance letter, and tryout fee. These videos may be sent via email to ascofield@coastal.edu or uploaded and the link sent via email. If videos are emailed please make sure to have sent application prior to sending the video and make a note of the video being sent via email in the application. Video Tryouts will not hurt your chances of making the squad; however it s highly encouraged to attend the tryout. k. If you are unable to attend please contact Coach Audra via email ASAP. l. Your video must include: Jumps, Jumps to tumbling, Stunting abilities, Standing Tumbling, Running Tumbling (all on hard cheer floor). m. Videos must include a short sideline cheer and 2-3 eighcount dance. 6
