Dear Candidates and Parents, Thank you for your interest in the 2013 2014 Seneca Valley cheerleading teams. As a member of either the Varsity or JV team, you can show your Seneca Valley pride through performances, exhibitions, competitions, and community events. The qualifications to become a member of either squad are as follows: Maintain a 2.0 minimum GPA requirement, you must have pep and enthusiasm, want to be involved, enjoy performing, be ready to work hard, and ready to assume the responsibility of representing SVHS! Cheering can be a truly rewarding experience, but it is also a large time commitment and can be costly. These are teams that require earnest efforts and sincere dedication. Be aware of these facts as you prepare to take on the responsibilities of representing Seneca Valley High School. If selected to be a SVHS cheerleader, there are many specific responsibilities, obligations, and behavioral expectations that your child must accept in order to qualify for and to remain part of the squad. Parent Responsibilities: Read the entire packet and be certain that you fully understand the rules and regulations that govern cheerleading and / or have asked the coaches to clarify any parts you do not understand. Review the STUDENT ATHLETE HANDBOOK (on SVHS Athletics web page) and discuss the rules and expectations with your child and be certain that your child has a complete understanding of his/her responsibilities. (NOTE: Your required Student Parent Athletic Participation Contract and Parent Permission Form is in this handbook.) Make sure that each form has been filled out completely and correctly. All health and permission forms are available on the SVHS website under Athletics. www.senecavalleyhighschool.com If your child does not already have a valid physical on file, make an appointment now and have the forms completed. Your child can not participate in clinics or tryouts without a current physical on file. Parents are required to help with concessions and will be required to sign up at the start of the fall season. Parents are required to assist with fundraisers. NOTE: If your child makes a cheerleading squad, one or both parents and the cheerleader is required to attend a parent meeting on Wednesday, June 5 th in the SVHS Cafeteria at either 5:30 or 7:00 p.m. depending upon the squad. The cheerleader must also attend. At the meeting we will go over parent and athlete expectations for the season, anticipated schedules, fundraisers, and camp. You will also be asked to make a payment towards cheerleading attire for the season. Team Member Participation Standards, Expectations and Responsibilities: Athlete expectations Our expectations for the girls on these teams are very high. We expect them to conduct themselves appropriately at all times. They are representatives of the school, the team, and the coaching staff and as such we expect them to behave as young ladies at all times. Violation of these expectations will result in disciplinary action, up to and including suspension and/or removal from the team. Some things to note: Foul language will not be tolerated. No excessive PDA s Smoking, alcohol, drug use are prohibited at all times both on and off campus. Courtesy to team mates, school staff, and all students is expected at all times. Notification of any change in contact information MUST be made to the coaching staff immediately.
Athlete responsibilities Those chosen are expected to be dedicated to the teams. Their team WILL take priority over their other activities. Absences affect the teams ability to progress, and unlike other teams we do not have the luxury of substitutions. Practices and games are mandatory. You will be on time and ready to participate. The only excused absences from practices are for illness that required the athlete to miss school or for school events that result in a grade. Excessive absences or tardiness, regardless of reason, will result in disciplinary action including suspension and up to removal from the team. Fundraising: Each member of the SVHS Varsity & JV cheerleading squads will be required to participate in fundraising to support our program and the SVHS overall athletic program. We anticipate several fundraisers this season. At this time we have the following fundraisers planned for the season: Carwashes SVHS cheerleading exhibition everyone will be required to work.
