VOLLEYBALL 217-18 RECAPS Robbie Berg Named MCC s First-Ever NJCAA First Team All-American December 7, 217 @ 4: pm - 4:5 pm MCC sophomore Robbie Berg became the first-ever Jayhawk volleyball player to earn First Team All-American honors. She was named to the 217 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Volleyball All-America Team, which was announced on Dec. 7. The 5-foot, 7-inch outside hitter was second in the nation with 9 aces, third nationally with 72.5 points, and fifth in the country with 591 kills. Robbie is an extremely hard working player that spends most of her time trying to become better at volleyball, said MCC Head Coach Rick Rykse, whose 26-17 Jayhawks finished the season ranked 19th in the nation and advanced to the MCCAA championship match and the semifinals of the NJCAA Region XII Championships. This season she battled through injuries and the perception that she wasn t tall enough to be a dominant front row player. Her passion for winning is evident both on and off the court as those around her can see how much she loves playing the game. Robbie earning First Team All- American is not only a huge honor for her but also for our volleyball program, as Robbie is a perfect example of what hard work can accomplish. A Montague, MI, native, Berg graduated from Montague High School. In 216-17, she earned NJCAA Second Team All-Academic Honors with a Grade Point Average between.8-.99. Competing on MCC s first-ever outdoor track and field team last spring, Berg won the NJCAA regional heptathlon title. View the complete NJCAA Div.
