South Dakota State Farrell compiled a.421 batting average (8-for-19) for the Jackrabbits in five games as they went 2-3 during the week. Farrell had back-to-back three-hit games, recording a double and three RBI in Game 2 of a doubleheader against Southwest Minnesota State, then hit his first two home runs of the season, drove in four and scored three runs in a 3- for-4 game against North Dakota State. He added a base hit and two RBI as the Jackrabbits completed a doubleheader sweep of NDSU on April 30. Others Nominated: Tyler Ames, Longwood; Casey Buaas, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi; Jacob Jones, Texas-Pan American; Daniel Magness, Dallas Baptist. Pitcher of the Week David Zachary RHP Sr. Granger, Ind. IPFW Zachary tossed a complete game one-hitter striking out six to defeat Bowling Green State 2-1 at Bowling Green. Zachary s ERA for the week was 0.00 and batting average against was.048. Zachary snapped a five-game losing streak for IPFW, now 20-20 on the season. BGSU was 1-21 in the seven inning contest managing only one infield hit. BGSU is receiving votes in the NCBWA s top 35 poll. Others Nominated: Trey Hearne, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi; Brian McCullough, Longwood; Francisco Torres, South Dakota State. Newcomer of the Week Roy Allen RHP Jr. Lakewood, Colo. Northern Colorado The Bears played only two games last week, against Mountain West Conference leader BYU, and Allen was beneficial in the Bears 12-7 victory over the Cougars in game one of the series. BYU led 7-4 when Allen, a transfer from Lamar CC, entered the game and shutdown the team ranked No. 3 in the country in batting (.346 average). Allen allowed a single to the first batter he faced then allowed only two hits over the next 16 batters in shutting out BYU for the rest of the game. Overall, Allen pitched 4.1 innings, allowing four hits, no runs, walking two and striking out five in earning his second victory of the season as the Bears came back to win 12-7.
