Hard, Smart and Together will be the foundation this program is built upon, and this statement will express more than just our style of play. This program will always prioritize the team, never one individual. Even though the growth of the individual in the program is important, it will never be at the expense of the team. We believe that basketball should do more for its members than simply teach the game of basketball. We want the players to realize that the attitude they take in dealing with life s challenges is what is most important. This program will teach the players that in life there are no setbacks, only different avenues to success. Head Coach: Celeste Ratka Assistant Varsity: Dean Hoewisch JV Coach: Matt Stormer Freshman Coach: Alli Thompson
Core Values Seek Excellence We will seek excellence on and off the floor, which means academically, athletically, and socially. We will prepare, compete, and live like champions. When we do this we win regardless of what the scoreboard says. Resilient Our team will invest the most and therefore we will be the last to surrender. Fundamental We will do the small things greatly by executing the fundamentals of the game. Our team will practice the fundamentals mentally quicker than our opponents, and this will require great pride and discipline. High Character Who are we when no one is watching? Our expectation is that we do the right thing, the right way, every time.
Negative Behaviors No Victims Allowed When players become uncomfortable many times they go through a processes on how to respond which I like to call the 5 P s: Personal - Coach doesn t like me Permanent - I am never going to get this Pervasive - I don t even care anymore Project - It s not my fault Parents - Mom and Dad, fix this for me Good teammates and coaches confront these victim stances every time, and that is the culture we want to build in this program. Playing With Fear Selfishness Fear cannot control us as a team. Players cannot worry about outcomes, but on their attitude and effort. Confidence is demonstrated ability. No coach can truly give or take away your confidence. It is something that I believe is earned only through hard work. The basic building block of selfless service is the commitment of each team member to go a little further, endure a little longer, and look a little closer to see how she can add to the effort. Selfless behavior starts at the top with the coaches and team leaders. Lack of Toughness Mental toughness is a positive response to adversity. People are not born with this skill and it is our job as coaches to help develop it. Players who fight and compete regardless of the result will do very well in this program. Lack of Competitive Character Self-Discipline Competitive Fire Self-Belief All the talent in the world can be destroyed if any one or all three of the qualities are missing.
Parent, Player, and Coaching Communication Hortonville Lady Hoops Basketball Parents and coaches need to work together to create a positive experience for everyone involved. Communication is key. As coaches, we will promise you that our hearts are for each and every one of your girls and for them to have a positive and life-changing experience. We will also promise you that your girls will be stretched physically and mentally throughout the year. One of our core values is resiliency and the only way to create that mindset is to create adversity on a daily basis. Comfort is not the goal. Parents, please help them to choose the right response and guide them through the ups and the downs of the season. Girls need to feel right to play right and if they aren t feeling right for some reason, encourage them to talk to Coach. 1. Coaches will not discuss other parents and other players. 2. Coaches will not discuss basketball scheme, strategies, and other playing personnel decisions with parents. 3. Players must always come and talk to their coach to solve any issues. All parties must wait 24 hours after a game to discuss any issue. a. This will help your girls to become assertive, problem solvers. We want to build strong character through the game of basketball. b. This will also help develop a trust between coaches and players that will help the team be successful.
Team Rules Do the best you can at everything you do. (hard) Do what is right. (smart) Treat others as you wish to be treated. (together) Players live up to your expectations. We will treat these girls like adults until they convince us otherwise. All rules in the code of conduct handbook are implied. Road Game Policies All players must ride the bus home on road games.
