Chiddix Cheerleading Rules As a Chiddix Cheerleader, you are a representative of your school whether you are in uniform or not. You will conduct yourself in a respectable and responsible manner at all times, on or off the court. All cheerleaders will be respectful towards teachers, coaches, parents, students at CJHS and other schools, and towards EACH OTHER!!! This requires commitment and hard work. Cheerleading is an honor! Be proud!!! As a cheerleader your purpose is to promote school spirit and support the athletic programs at Chiddix, whether in victory or defeat. Uniform Attire 1. Uniforms must be kept clean at all times. 2. Uniforms are to be washed on DELICATE cycle and laid flat to dry. 3. Cheer shoes are considered part of the uniform and are to be worn at practices and games. 4. Do not wear your cheer shoes in inclement weather. Shoes must be carried or in your bag. 5. Black athletic pants or legging must be worn under the cheer skirt at all times when the uniform is worn at school or to a venue. During games pants will not be worn. 1. Hair must be pulled back into a high ponytail and must be off your shoulders secured with your cheer bow. No hair is to be in your face, this includes bangs. 2. Nails must be shorter than the top of the fingertips. Clear nail polish is the only color acceptable for nails during the cheer season. 3. No jewelry may be worn at any time while at practice, at a game, or any time you are in uniform. Jewelry cannot be taped. The IESA states that the definition of jewelry is anything that was not on or in your body when you were born. If you choose to get your ears pierced during the cheer season, you will have to take out your new piercings during all practices and games. Attendance 1. All cheerleaders are expected to be in attendance for all practices and games. 2. If you are not in attendance any part of the school day, you cannot practice or cheer at the game that day. You will still come to practice or game. The only exceptions will be if you had a doctor s appointment or a death in the family. 3. All appointments should be scheduled around practices and games. This includes the time between school and the start of the game because we use this time to practice. (Exceptions will be made at the discretion of the Coach when requests are made in advance). 4. Game schedules will come out in the summer. 5. Missing Practices: a. If you are at school, you come to practice. b. If a practice is considered unexcused, the cheerleader will dress but NOT Cheer during a game. c. If you miss a practice you will be missing out on the new material we are learning. Your position may be replaced by another member of the squad. It is very important to be at all practices to learn and do as much as possible as a squad. 6

Excused Absences 1. School-sponsored activities 2. Death in the family 3. Other exceptions may be made at the discretion of the Coach. Eligibility 1. School work comes first. If a cheerleader s name appears on the eligibility list throughout the cheer season (August-February), the cheerleader and parent/guardian will be notified each time the cheerleader is on the eligibility list. The Coach, cheerleader, and parent/guardian will set-up a plan for that cheerleader and how eligibility will affect that cheerleader s academics and cheering. 2. Cheerleaders who are ineligible will be required to study at school during practice time. They will also attend all games in uniform and sit on the bench. Permanent Suspension 1. Total of 3 unexcused absences. 2. Not meeting the requirements of the Coach/cheerleader/parent/guardian agreed-upon plan about eligibility 3 weeks on the ineligible list results in removal from the squad. 3. Repeated school disciplinary problems. (No Detentions, suspensions, etc.) 4. Constant disruption and/or attitude problems. (Results in Teachers e-mail the coach about behavior) 5. Multiple rule infractions (Mine or schools) Dual Participation 1. If a student participates in cheerleading and an IESA sport, the Coaches and the student involved will determine a reasonable practice and game participation schedule for the student. (Softball season is ending as cheerleading is starting. Also, Volleyball begins towards the end of cheerleading. Any girl wanting to participate in both sports MUST communicate this with both Coaches so a tryout/practice/game schedule can be agreed upon in advance). 2. Every effort will be made to ensure that the student has every opportunity to successfully participate in dual activities without compromising the integrity of either activity. (Chiddix students may participate in cheerleading and any IESA sport other than basketball due to conflicting seasons). 7

General Rules 1. Good communication is the key to preventing mix-ups. It is your responsibility to get information. Please notify the coach if you have questions. 2. None of the following will be tolerated. Failure to follow rules will result in the cheerleader sitting out part/all of the game. All rule infractions are at the discretion of the Coach. a. Not paying attention to information given from the Coach b. Tardiness to practice and games c. No spirit, pep, enthusiasm at practice or games d. Missing uniform pieces (if the cheerleader is missing any part of their uniform, including shoes, bows, etc., the cheerleader will not cheer until they have what they are missing) e. The uniform is not neat and clean f. Talking to other cheerleaders/fans while cheering g. Returning late after half-time h. Swearing and any disrespectful behavior i.
