UNDERCLASSMEN MAKE HISTORY AT POWDER-PUFF GAME! In what has become quite the school-wide tradition, Maranatha Christian s High School girls took to the gridiron on Tuesday for the annual Homecoming Week Powder-Puff Football Game. With all K-12 students in attendance, the energetic cheering was at a fever-pitch. Facing the daunting task of overcoming a 5 year losing streak, the Underclassmen Girls (led by Coaches Katherine Gordon & Caleb Whitley) squared off against the experienced Upperclassmen Girls (led by Coach Eric Martin). The Underclassmen came out swinging when Freshman Cornerback Elizabeth Rosso stopped the Upperclassmen drive by intercepting a pass and returning it for 60 yards. Sophomore Quarterback Ally Carmichael took over with great offensive field position and completed several passes that ultimately led to a touchdown, giving the Underclassmen a 6-0 lead at the half. Halftime entertainment was provided by members of the Varsity Boys Football Team who had prepared several cheer routines that included High Flying Stunting by Damon Henry and a human pyramid topped off by Patrick Collins. The Upperclassmen tried to regroup in the second half by attempting to establish the run game with power halfback Kaylee Herring, but it was too little too late. A combination of penalties and the fresh Underclassmen defense caused the Upperclassmen s offense to stall. Turning to late game strategy, Underclassmen coaches Gordon and Whitley chewed up much time off the game clock with a lengthy 4th Quarter drive that ended in a touchdown that finally sealed the Upperclassmen fate. As the game clock reached 0:00, the Underclassmen did the unthinkable by shutting out the Upperclassmen by a final score of 12-0. Sophomore Ally Carmichael was named the 2018 Powder-Puff MVP due to her legendary performance that will be remembered for ages to come!

To receive the Commended Status our students have to had scored in the top 3.3% or top 50,000 nationally. Please congratulate Seniors, Alex Partida, Matthew Chin, Sarah Stout, James Rankin Poage II, and Sam Wise on this honor. Congratulations! MCS is proud of you!

TEA ANYONE! This week the 7th graders enjoyed being served tea and a snack by Mrs. Hamm during their Japanese Tea Ceremony. MY BUDDY AND ME On Thursday, the 8th grade students had their first meeting with their kindergarten buddies. Each kindergartener was paired with one or two 8th grade students and will stay with their partners throughout the year. They enjoyed the morning read with their buddy, and then made patterns out of different colored Teddy Graham crackers. The 8th graders can t wait to see their buddies again!

RSF FIRE STATION COMES TO VISIT October is Fire Prevention Month, and our local Rancho Santa Fe fire station Captain and crew stopped by to teach Elementary all about fire safety. The students even climbed into the fire truck for a tour! First graders were thrilled to learn from and hang out with the RSF fire fighters.

LET S GO WALKING! Pre-Kindergarteners explored the outdoors on a nature walk. They paid close attention to how we use our five senses to discover God s world. They touched a tree, smelled the bark, looked at the leaves changing colors, and heard the birds chirping in the trees. Breathing fresh air and seeing nature, now that s a good day!

October 12, 2018 PAC NEWS COFFEE AND CONVERSATION WITH THE SUPERINTENDENT PAC s morning coffee events are a great opportunity to meet and hear updates from various administrators at MCS. This past Thursday parents met to hear Mr. Hetherington share about his most recent trip to Lebanon with Missions Pastor John Cook of Maranatha Chapel. They traveled to the Middle East to identify possible educational and medical opportunities that Maranatha Chapel and Maranatha Christian Schools could support for the people in Beirut and the surrounding areas. More information is to come after Mr. Hetherington and Pastor John Cook meet with Senior Pastor Ray Bentley and others to debrief, pray and plan for other possible missions trips to Lebanon.

O.C.C. is a school-wide project designed to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ to children around the world who are suffering from war, poverty, disease, and natural disaster. Every MCS student will have the opportunity to pack and send shoeboxes filled with collected grade specific items, handmade toys, written letters, and The Greatest Journey gospel literature during our annual school-wide packing party in the MCS courtyard on Friday, November 9. Last year our goal was 700 boxes and our school packed over 800 boxes. This year our goal is to pack and send 888 boxes! Here s how you can play a part!
