Schools out, the kids are home and Summer is here. I hope all of Cowtown Mopar members have a great time for all of us to have this summer. We had a great turnout at the May Club Meeting at Bill Boon s shop. We had a group of great people, I enjoyed mixing and visiting with everyone and of course I can never thank Ken Angyal enough for the great Brisket and Pulled Pork. Everyone brought side dishes to go with the meat and no one went home hungry. We are back to Spring Creek for our meetings now. Hope everyone got the message we are having to move the meeting date to June 8 th due to the meeting room not being available on Father s Day or the following Sunday due to a function Spring Creek is having for their employees. I hope this works for everyone. We will be back on our normal schedule in July. I hope to see all of you at the meeting and would like all of you to bring a friend with them that is into Mopars. Spread the word about the club and bring your friends. If anyone has suggestions, please feel free to let me know. From The Veep s Desk Hello Folks, back again. Has anyone read about the new engine coming down the pipeline for hybrids? It s called a lineargenerator, utilizes two opposing pistons with a common combustion chamber. The pistons are mounted on top of stators that travel in a cylinder of magnets to produce electricity. The engine is infinitely adjustable to enable it to run on any fuel available, be it diesel, gas, ethanol, etc. It can be stacked to meet more power needs, can be used to run an electric motor or charge a battery, gets incredible mileage regardless of the fuel it is using. I for one am looking forward to seeing this in a hybrid, see how it works out. If anyone wants to see it work, go here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ja0dzxpkqv0. On a later note, check this out: https://autos.yahoo.com/news/1-000-hp-superbird-rips-down-runway-194-154323638.html Other news...chrysler /Fiat has filed for the name Rebel, wonder what they have in mind for that, Ram 1500 Rebel? Or Jeep Renegade Rebel, hmmm, many things to think about. On recalls, why did Chrysler wait to recall the cars that evidently have defective fuel tanks? Has anyone seen the video of Big Daddy Don Garlits run of 7.25 @ 184 mph in his electric dragster? Phill Be sure to visit the Facebook page: Cowtown Cars and Coffee
Off The Wing by Barry Hansen Road trip to Austin May 6 with fellow club member Ron Carroll in his Petty Edition Ram. Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America tour stopped there overnight. Got to talk with Kyle and Richard Petty, Rutledge Wood (lost a lot of weight, looks great, promises Top Gear USA will be better this season). Most often heard phrase from the dismounting bikers man Texas is big!. Richard Petty, always patient and gracious, autographed Ron s truck and several car parts, asked Ron a lot of questions about his truck. Petty may be running Fords but the tour was sponsored by Chrysler SRT/Dodge Motorsports. All pace and support vehicles were Mopar. Chrysler PDC picnic and car show May 17 was great once again. Lots of Cowtown Mopars along with our smoker. PDC hospitality was wonderful, lots of door prizes. Parked the old Ramcharger next to a red Viper, the owner assured he wouldn t be too intimidated if I popped the hood on my beast. I have to wonder as he left a short time later. Only complaint, Ron and Rich had to find a place with almost no shade near the loud speakers. Our Frankenwagon had the right idea, the opposite (east) end under the huge shade tree on the grass. Next year east end under the tree. NHRA Southern Nats, Atlanta, Spencer Massey winner T/F, Jeg Coughlin, Dart, winner Pro Stock. Kansas Natls, Topeka, Spencer Masey again winner T/F, all Mopar Pro Stock final, Allen Johnson, Dart, winner over Jeg Coughlin, Dart. Texas Autowriters Association gave Mopar several Car of the Year awards. Best family vehicle, 30 th Anniversary Town & Country van, Best Compact, Dart SXT/Rallye, Best Mid-size, Chrysler 200, Best Full-size, Chrysler 300, Best SUV, Grand Cherokee SRT. May 25 was my Super Bowl Sunday. 6 am Gran Prix Monaco, 10 am pre-pre race Indy. 11 am pre-race Indy. 12 noon Indy 500. 3:45pm post race Indy. At the appropriate time wife served the traditional Indy lunch, chicken and potato salad. Taped race for review at a later date. Great race. 139 laps before first yellow flag. The winner, Ryan Hunter-Reay was born in Dallas, 1980. Snake and Mongoose DVD popping up in stores. Saw in Sams Club and WalMart recently. Wonder if it was meant to be a direct to DVD movie all along. Remember TMCCC/Kennedale moved to June 8, 8 am and the club meeting also moved to Sunday June 8, 5 pm at Spring Creek BBQ. Happy Father s Day Barry

TECH TIPS Only part of your steering wheel or steering wheel padding going bad? Maybe just the top 1/3 that sits in the sun? A quick and easy repair is to use bicycle handlebar tape (or wrap) to cover and style the worn part. Your local upscale bicycle shop has a variety of materials, thicknesses and colors. The selection is endless. Soft long wearing manmade materials, suede, leather. Every color imaginable including Go Mango and Hemi Orange. Wrap the top 1/4 and the bottom 1/4 with bright red leather tape to mimic the current Ferrari factory split wheel. Use Elmer s glue on the final turn wrap and secure with masking tape for 24 hours to complete. Barry Hansen Replacing the molded carpet in your trick ride? Unfold it and set in the sun for a couple of hours. It will relax and soften up, much easier to install and tuck around the humps, curves and corners of the floorboard.
