Gryphon Leisure Centre Summer Activities 2011 Our Children s holiday programme is specially designed for young people to have fun, get active and make new friends, try out new and old sports, activities and crafts all supervised by our excellent centre staff. Session Time Session price Morning session 8.30am-noon 6.50 per child Supervised lunch Noon-1pm 1 or FREE if staying all day Afternoon session 6.50 per child Extra time club 4pm-5.30pm 2.50 per child All day price 8.30am-5.30pm 15 per child All week price Monday-Friday 60 per child *Additional courses, and add on activities not included in the day or weekly price A typical day 8.30am-noon Noon-1pm 4pm-5.30pm Morning session This includes a wake up period when you can drop off your children anytime between 8.30am and 9am. Then the fun really starts, with supervised games or coaching sessions as well as quiet time and a midmorning break. Supervised lunch Break is an hour, which gives the children a chance to have their packed lunch (not provided by the centre) and relax before the afternoon activities start. Afternoon session Includes coaching, small sided games, tournaments, or just lots of fun and exciting games and activities for all abilities. As with the morning session we offer quiet times for those whose batteries need re-charging before they can participate in the rest of the session. Extra time club This is for parents who need their children to stay later. There is more fun and games and sometimes a late afternoon coaching or supervised activity or just some relaxing activities to help the children unwind ready for collection at 5.30pm. Arsenal Soccer School Play the Arsenal Way' At the Gryphon Leisure Centre this summer from Monday 25th to Wednesday 27th August for 5-12 year olds of all abilities from 10am to 3pm To book online visit www.playthearsenalway.com or phone 07810 867354 Active Sports Afternoon This morning just wasn t long enough to give you a taster of what s coming up this summer, so enjoy some more examples of some of the great activities on offer. 3.30pm-5.30pm Bikeability level one, for children aged 7 and above, and off road Cyclists learn about balance and co-ordination when on a bike, this is run as a course, and both days must be attended to gain this award. Trampolining Club This summer we are offering weekly Trampolining sessions to help you learn or improve your trampolining skills. All children are required to wear socks and long trousers and if they have long hair it needs to be tied back to participate 3.30pm-5.30pm Bikeability Level One Day 2 of the Level One Bikeability Course, remember both days must be attended to gain the award. Wednesday 27 July 10am-3pm Gymnastics Coaching The first of two sessions from Gryphon West Gymnastics Club fully British Gymnastics qualified instructors teaching you how to balance and tumble all in a fun, safe and controlled environment Arsenal Soccer School Play the Arsenal Way Final day of this three day course from Arsenal Football Club Summer Arts and Crafts Every Wednesday afternoon is Arts and Crafts, and every week we will be making something different to take home 3.30pm-5.30pm Bikeability level two, for children aged 10 and above Level 2 is designed to learn all about road sense, and the Highway Code. This is run, as a course and all three days must be attended to gain the award. Thursday 28 July Archery Workshop Learn the skill of propelling arrows with the use of a bow; learn how to use one safety in this morning s workshop with a fully trained expert. Judo and Ju-Jitsu Join the Bushido Martial Arts Club for a mixed session on mat work in the Olympic sport of Judo and weapons training in Ju-Jutsu.

3.30pm-5.30pm Bikeability Level Two Day two of the Bikeability course Friday 29 July Bouncy Castle Madness This summer we have four sessions of Bouncy Castle Madness, jump around on our castle and the Sports Development Unit Action Van, as well as lots of soft play fun. Athletics Camp Learn all about the throwing and jumping events and put your new skills and knowledge you have gained to compete in traditional field events. 3.30pm-5.30pm Bikeability Level Two Third and final day of Bikeability level 2, all 3 days must be attended to gain the award. Monday 1 August Week two Monday 1 to Friday 5 August 10am-3pm Netball Coaching Learn some of the basics of netball, work out your positions on the court, as well as learning all about passing and movement with out the ball with the TG Netball Club UKCC Qualified Club Coach. The FA Tesco s Skills Programme The FA Tesco Skills Coaches who focus on raising technical standards amongst the 5-11 age groups where ball skills are ingrained are here and to book your free place visit www.tescoskills.thefa.com Hockey Coaching Qualified coaches from the Sports Development team will be on hand to teach you all about field hockey out on the astro turf (weather permitting) Tuesday 2 August Badminton Coaching The centre offers badminton coaching on Tuesdays starting again on the 6th September or why not book a court from only 4.10 and play a game?

This session is lead by FA Qualified Football Coaches, one of four sessions throughout the summer. Judo and Ju-Jitsu Join the Bushido Martial Arts Club for a mixed session on mat work in the Olympic sport of Judo and weapons training in Ju-Jutsu. Friday 5 August Bouncy Castle Madness The second of our morning Bouncy Castle fun sessions, jump around on our castle and the SDU Action Van, as well as lots of soft play games. Tennis Coaching Expert coaching from our USA PTR Tennis Coach, learn to improve your range of shots and game play outside on one of our hard-court tennis courts.

Athletics Coaching Learn all about the running events this week and put your new skills and knowledge you have gained to compete in traditional track events. Monday 8 August Week three Monday 8 to Friday 12 August Netball Coaching The second of our netball coaching sessions, practice what you learnt last week or start afresh with your netball skills, with the TG Netball Club UKCC Qualified Club Coach. Hockey Coaching The second of our hockey coaching with Qualified coaches from the Sports Development team. Tuesday 9 August Gryphon Fitness Club Week 3 of our Fitness Club where Dance, Fitness, Health and Exercise is our goal during these weekly session with our qualified e-2-m instructor. Trampolining Club Week three of trampolining club all children are required to wear socks and long trousers and if they have long hair it needs to be tied back to participate Wednesday 10 August Circus Skills and Magic Show Learn all the fun of the fair such as juggling and stilts with our recreational assistants and watch Uncle Ron s magic Show (10.30-11.30am), try and work out his magic tricks and watch in amazement as he pulls a rabbit out of his hat? Summer Arts and Crafts Week three of our Wednesday afternoon Arts and Crafts, and every week we will be making something different to take home. Indoor Mobile Skate Park The skate park can be used for riding skateboards on or using in-line skates, BMX and mountain bikes. FREE for anyone who wants to have a go.

Friday 12 August Parkour Urban Sports An athletic discipline, in which you traverse any environment in the most efficient way possible using your physical abilities, and which commonly involves running, jumping, vaulting, rolling and other similar physical movements Cricket Coaching A morning s worth of cricket coaching, both in the nets and out in the field plus some small-sided games inside or out depending on the weather Tennis Coaching Expert coaching from our USA PTR Tennis Coach, learn to improve your range of shots and game play outside on one of our hard-court tennis courts. Tri-Golf Tri-Golf includes chippers with over-sized club heads, putters, and a variety of over-sized foam balls designed so that they are safe to use in an indoor environment Week four Monday 15 to Friday 19 August Monday 15 August Fencing New to the Gryphon the sport of fencing, learn how to fight with swords, esp. foils, épées, or sabers, according to a set of rules, in order to score points against an opponent, with qualified coach Professor Perry BAF Rugby Coaching Sherborne Town Rugby Club brings their coaches to teach all the skills of the game with the egg shaped ball with a game of Tag Rugby to finish the session Tuesday 16 August Gryphon Fitness Club Week 4 of our Fitness Club where Dance, Fitness, Health and Exercise is our goal during these weekly session with our qualified e-2-m instructor.

South West Martial Arts Tae Kwon Do & Kick Boxing Academy This session is perfect for developing character, adjusting attitudes, and motivating your children to be their very best, run by qualified Martial Arts experts.

Friday 26 August Cricket Coaching Our final morning of cricket coaching, both in the nets and out in the field plus some small-sided games inside or out depending on the weather. Bouncy Castle Madness The last two weeks of the summer Bouncy Castle Madness, is in the afternoon. Week six Monday 29 August to Friday 2 September Bank Holiday Monday 29 (we are only offering morning activities today due to the bank Holiday) Create and Play, Bank Holiday Special This morning session will be based around the children having loads of fun and trying out a number of the centres children s holiday activities. Tuesday 30 August 1am-4pm Gryphon Fitness Club Week 6 the final week of our Fitness Club with our qualified e-2-m instructor. Trampolining Club If your children enjoyed our weekly Trampolining Club, then why not sign up to our course. We offer a trampolining course on Fridays at 6pm starting 9 September. Wednesday 31 August Ball Sports Morning Cricket, Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Rugby all sports that use a ball to throw, kick or catch, learn some of the basic of a new sport or improve on an old one. Summer Arts and Crafts The final week of our Wednesday afternoon Arts and Crafts, and every week we will be making something different to take home.

Thursday 1 September Basketball Basketball uses techniques such as shooting, passing, and dribbling learn these skills to play in a number of one on one and three vs three tournaments. South West Martial Arts Tae Kwon Do & Kick Boxing Academy If you enjoyed these session why not join the Academy, they train on Wednesdays and Fridays, phone 07921 393425 for more details. Friday 2 September Volleyball Enjoy a couple of games of volleyball as well learn how to smash an Ace, learn a Side Out, a Dig or a Block all these will help to improve your volleyball skills. Bouncy Castle Madness If your children enjoyed our Bouncy Castle Madness then we offer Bouncy Castle and Soft Play Birthday Parties from as little as 49. Week seven Monday 5 to Tuesday 6 September Monday 5 September The Tank Museum The Tank Museum from Bovington is coming to the Gryphon where they bring the history of tanks and tank crew to life, experience it during this session. (Sorry there won t be a tank in attendance)

Racket vs. Ball Sports Afternoon Improve or learn all about a new racket or ball sport, this afternoon. Tuesday 6 September Tri-Golf Tri-Golf includes chippers with over-sized club heads, putters, and a variety of over-sized foam balls designed so that they are safe to use in an indoor environment. Rounder s and Baseball For the final afternoon of the summer holidays we will be playing rounders and baseball, scoring a rounder or a home run.

All booking forms must be accompanied by payment. We only accept telephone bookings if being paid for with a debit or credit card. Parent handbook - guide to children's activities, clubs and courses - available on request from reception Please make cheques payable to West Dorset District Council. If posting, please write cheque gaurantee card number and expiry date on the back of the cheque. A supervised lunch break is provided, free of charge, for those attending both morning and afternoon activities. Please provide a packed lunch. Water is available at break times and vending facilities are provided. Children must be collected by a parent or guardian. If this is not possible, written instructions as to alternative arrangements must be given to the centre. The management reserve the right to cancel or change any activities.
