NEWSLETTER July 2013 You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life Winston Churchill From the Headmaster s desk Dear Parents and Friends of the Academy July Fever with all its excitement and exotic fashions came and went. There was also an air of excitement prevailing in the Academy, with the mid-year exams in the background and arrival of the school holidays. In addition July was a very busy month with two major races in Kwa-Zulu Natal and four Apprentice Challenge races in four different race venues. Our apprentices are very fortunate to have these opportunities to ride, which enables them to gain much race riding experience. Congratulations to all the successful apprentices and trainers. See detailed results later in this letter. Charles Grey, our marketing manager resigned. We wish him all the best in his future ventures, and we thank him for his contribution to the Academy, especially for the sponsorships he secured for the Academy and many of the apprentices. The renovations of our facilities are still in progress. However there is light at the end of the tunnel and we are nearing completion of the main undertaking. I am sure all will agree our buildings have taken on a much improved image. Apprentice Julius Mariba was selected to compete in the 2013 Asian Young Guns Series Racing event at Te Rapa race course, Waikato, New Zealand. This will be taking place on Saturday, 17 August 2013. We wish him all of the best. In closing, I would like to make special mention of S Manga Khumalo, who is our first African apprentice from the Academy, to win the prestigious July. He was a well-liked student at our Academy and was known for his hard work and dedication. Congratulations S Manga this was a well-deserved win and we are very proud of you. Yours in racing Graham Bailey

Ending off with a smile This is a true story of a poor dizzy blond flying in a twoseater airplane with just the pilot. He has a heart attack and dies. She, frantic, calls out a May Day. "May Day! May Day! Help Me! Help Me! My pilot had a heart attack and is dead and I don't know how to fly. Help Me! Please Help Me!" She hears a voice over the radio saying: "This is Air Traffic Control and I have you loud and clear. I will talk you through this and get you back on the ground. I've had a lot of experience with this kind of problem. Now, just take a deep breath. Everything will be fine! Now give me your height and position!" She says, "I'm 5'4 and I'm in the front seat." (pause) "O.K." says the voice in the radio... "Repeat after me: Our father who art in heaven..."
