We are happy to have you join us and look forward to seeing you at the club soon and often. Good things happen to good people. Golf Professional, Mike O Neill will be leaving CCW soon to accept the Director of Golf position at Chicopee Country Club. Since Mike joined our team a little over a year ago, he has shown professionalism, integrity, and a great work ethic. He has been a team player since his first day and made our team better. I am very happy for Mike and wish him well as he moves into a new chapter of his life and career. Speaking of our team, Jared Slingerland will be stepping up to take on more challenges in the golf operation. Jared works hard, is eager to learn, and has done a great job connecting with our members and their guests. We will be making other changes and/or additions as we move forward and will make those announcements as they happen. FROM THE PRESIDENT Vision Statement Increase revenue through membership growth & retention. By building on our strengths and eliminating our weakness Does this decision help to grow membership? Does this decision help to retain members? I started my first article with this in March and our Committees, Board of Directors, staff and I have been focused on this exclusively. I know I probably sound like a broken record, but we need your help to obtain our goal. Did you know you can host a golf outing? That s right, you can put together a group from work, neighbors, or maybe a trade organization you belong to, the options are limitless. We consider an outing to be 1 foursome to 6 foursomes or maybe more. Please contact Dean to find out more and arrange your get together. We want to offer the CCW experience to as many people as possible with the hopes that some will want to join our fun. Thank you to the members who brought guests to the recent Bill Sullivan Memorial Tournament! The 2014 tournament season is off to a good start. The weather has given us some challenges, but we have had some great events. Watch your e-mail and the club bulletin board for upcoming tournaments. As always, the Friday Couples is a great way to bring friends. Couples can register as a twosome and be paired with another couple, or register as a foursome. Couples night is an affordable way to invite friends or not-so-serious golfers to have a fun time. Formats are always easy for beginners. CCW is always available for small groups or outings. If you are looking for a way to entertain friends from your office, civic group, or neighborhood, a day of golf, food, and fun are always a hit. Watch for e-mail updates from CCW. If you don t receive club e-mails, forward your address to DHelm@ccofwilbraham.com. by Rick Miller Thanks to the Golf Committee as well for their forward thinking. This was the first year that guests could join us for this event. Because of this the field expanded by one full division. So let s review a few ways you can help: Sponsor a new member and receive a discount on next year s dues. by Dean Helm Bring a guest(s) to one of our MMMG events and receive a $50 credit for each guest. Also, did you know your guest will receive a guest pass that will allow them to return for another round? Host an outing to expose your friends & colleagues to CCW and increase your chance in sponsoring someone new. On behalf of myself and the BOD I would like to wish Mike O Neill all the best in his new position. Mike was only with us a short time but became a valuable and well liked member of the CCW family. As always, if you have any thoughts you would like to share with me please do not hesitate to contact me or one of our team members. Rick Miller - C: 530-5181, H: 596-8325, rick@agmiller.com

Page 2 MEN S LEAGUES We are about one third of the way through the 2014 season and the leagues are running well. Tuesday players have set tee times and the Thursday league now has a 5 pm shotgun start each week. Our thanks to the golf and grounds staff for all their efforts to ensure we have a good golf experience each week. In addition, we appreciate the Scully s food service offerings that help make the leagues a good weekly event. In particular, the Thursday shotgun brings us all in at the same time and the dining service has been very good. The top teams through the end of May are: Tuesday 1 st Steve Parastatidis & Andy Montagna 2 nd Mike Fuss & Fred Geoffrion 3 rd John Mailhot & Joe Lawler 3 rd Jim Thompson & Paul Donohue Thursday 1 st Jay Perry & Charlie Gray 2 nd Jeff Kinder & Damon Accardi 3 rd Ed Prystupa & Tom Mitchell Look to the club website for updated standings and league schedules under league info. by John McBride Remember to arrange for subs if you can t make a weekly match and notify the golf shop in advance so they can prepare scorecards. We will poll the Thursday players about whether they will be in attendance July 3 since the 4 th of July is a Friday. If a lot of players can t make that night we will run a special event for those that will be there and cancel the regular matches. LADIES GOLF Mother Nature continues to cast her evil spells, dumping a lot of rain and causing the course to be closed a number of days. We have been fortunate so far that weather has not impacted play for our Wednesday Night Ladies League. The league kicked off this month with 15 teams. Everyone seems to like the 5 o clock shot guns and things seem to be running smoothly. The Opening Scramble was finally played this month. There was a great turn out from the ladies. Thanks to all who participated! The first Ladies Member/Guest Day is scheduled for Tuesday, June 17. Last year we had to cancel due to lack of participation and we re hoping this year will be a success. The sign-up sheet has been posted. Hope to see you there. The first Inter-Club Match with Twin Hills and Springfield Country Club will be played at CCW on Thursday, June 19. This will be an HOUSE COMMITTEE Well, spring has finally sprung and we are in full swing (pun intended) at CCW and the House is buzzing. The tournament season finally got underway with the Bill Sullivan Memorial Day tournament. Of course, no event this year actually begins as scheduled, so the Sat-Sun event turned into a Sun-Mon event. Again throwing a wrench into the Scully catering machine, however, no one could tell that the Sunday start coincided with the locally famous Sunday breakfast at CCW. CCW wait staff serving up some fun under the tent The Sunday morning omelets went off without a hitch and the grill at the turn was much appreciated as well. This was a short turnaround time for the kitchen. Monday s breakfast sandwiches gave Good food, good drink and good friends after a great day of golf! by Bobbi Perry & Tina Miller 8:30 shotgun start. We need 8 players. Please sign up if you are interested. There is space for subs in the event someone is not able to play. The Ladies Ryder Cup in May had to be cancelled due to weather and we re hoping for good weather and great participation for the Ladies Stableford on June 21. This tournament is a Member/Guest, please bring a friend and join us for a great day. Those of you participating in Match Play should be making arrangements to play your first match. The matches have been posted on the board. Please check to see who you are playing and make arrangements to play your first round by June 30 th! Hopefully June will bring an abundance of good weather so we can get out there and play some Golf! by Chuck Camerlin all the golfers the start they needed on the all important final day matches. At the conclusion of the two-day tournament, the light snacks provided turned out to be enough for dinner with Brian s specialty flat breads and enough finger food to satisfy any hunger. Thanks to the Scully s as well as the entire cook and wait staff for a job well done! Not to be outdone the Better Late Than Never Scramble took place the following Saturday. Golfers were treated on the course to a vodka station where they could try a combination of new drinks. Scully catering also provided a Yuengling keg with Nathans all beef Franks, strategically located on the 11/16/17 hole turn, if you missed this, shame on you. I hope you tipped Brian as he served up the suds and dogs. After the tournament everyone was treated to a nice buffet to cap off a great day. All-in-all this was much more than your tournament fee would indicate. I was personally pleased to see so many people at these events and enjoying the (finally) nice weather, sitting outside joking, laughing and reminding us of why CCW is the best! Questions, comments and concerns are always welcome, as well as a positive comment now and then. Remember It s on the House!

Both were played on our home course. The first match, against the Westover Seniors, resulted in an 18 to 12 victory for the. A good start to the 2014 season then came a day of what happened? The Amherst Legends came to Wilbraham and handed our men a 23 to 13 whipping. Embarrassing! Local knowledge was obviously absent on that day. Admittedly, the Legends traditionally have been a tough foe for our men, handing us our only defeat in 2013. However, in August the travel to Amherst and revenge will be the order of the day. Two more inter club matches are on the schedule for June. We will travel to the Hickory Ridge CC for a match with the Ridge Runners on June 4 th. Two weeks following this date is a competition at Wilbraham with the Greenfield CC Seniors. These inter club matches have become very popular events on the schedule, giving our guys an opportunity to enter into friendly competitions with men from neighboring clubs, and to play their courses. The play every Wednesday morning throughout the golfing season. An invitation is extended to all CCW retired and semi-retired men to come join us for a day of golf and good fellowship. Page 4 CCW lost two friends and members last week. Lee Prentice & Joe Fahey Both gentlemen loved the game of golf and they will truly be missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Lee and Joe s family and friends. Please keep rakes in the bunkers, carts on the paths and new roped off path areas. Thank you. GROUNDS COMMITTEE by Matt Kowal Well, Mother Nature finally seems to be cooperating and the golf course is responding well to the warm weather. The 12 th green had some winter damage coming out of the winter months, but is on the road to recovery. It has been solid tine aerated, seeded, and top-dressed and is filling in nicely. We will be repeating this procedure again soon. The new sod on the 6 th hole is mending and firming up nicely and we should be able to roll it soon. We will be able to mow it on a regular basis in the near future. In addition to some minor touchup work, we will begin bunker work very shortly. I appreciate everyone s cooperation with not playing or walking on the newly placed sod on the sixth hole. This will help speed up the mending process. I hope everyone takes advantage of the nice weather to play and hope to see everyone on the course. HANDICAP COMMITTEE For our new member s that are not sure what scores should be entered in the computer, here is some hard and fast rules to go by. If at least 7 holes are played a 9 hole score should be posted. If at least 13 holes are played an 18 hole score should be posted. For holes not played par plus any handicap stroke to which the player is entitled. League scores are posted by the league coordinator. Tournament scores are posted by the club staff. Your away scores should also be posted. First enter the date of play. Our computer has a listing of clubs in Massachusetts. If a club is not listed or is out-of-state enter other under club. Then enter the course rating and than the course slope. The next thing to enter is the name of the course. Now enter your score and post. If you have multiple scores to enter the dates should be entered for each score posted. You should not enter multiple scores for the same date. If you are not sure how to enter a score in the computer the CCW staff will be happy to assist you. If a mistake is made let the staff know- corrections can be made. Most of the information on handicapping can be reviewed at any time in the CCW handbook.
