All warranties are subject t fllwing gd installatin practices as utlined in this installatin manual. Materials and Material Cmpatibility TECTITE fittings are designed and manufactured t strict specificatins and quality systems. Large diameter TECTITE fittings are manufactured frm Cpper r Cpper Allys and utilize EPDM -ring seals, Nyln and Zytel plastic cmpnents, and a 316 Stainless Steel retaining ring. An ANSI/NSF 61 listed silicne grease is used t lubricate TECTITE fittings. Large diameter TECTITE fittings are designed fr use with ASTM B88 hard drawn and annealed Cpper tube, Type K, L, r M, in the 1 1/4 thrugh 2 size range, CPVC water tube per ASTM D2846/2846M-99 and PEX water tube that meets the requirements f ASTM F876, F877. All TECTITE fittings are designed t perate at temperatures frm 0 t 250 F at a maximum wrking pressure f 200 psi, with varius liquids, and gasses. TECTITE fittings must nt cme int cntact with husehld cleaning prducts, paints, greases, flux, mineral ils, adhesives, ammnia, nitrates, r ther slvent base materials that may be used during r after installatin. The exterir surface f TECTITE fittings shuld nt be painted. The use f prprietary chemicals t flush pipes during plumbing system startup shuld be reviewed with an EPC representative. Installatin The TECTITE jining system is designed with easy installatin in mind. Basic jining and remval prcedures are identical fr every type and size f TECTITE fitting. The fllwing instructins address the assembly prcedures. Publicatin Date: Dec. 9, 2008 Revisin CC
TECTITE Fitting Assembly fr Cpper, CPVC Tube Step 1 Cut the tube with a tube cutter r fine tth saw. The cut shuld be perpendicular t the centerline f the tube. Step 2 Remve burrs by chamfering the tube at the inside and utside diameters. Step 3 Mark the tube exterir at the depth shwn. The tube insertin depth is the same whether the tube material is Cpper, CPVC r PEX. Tube Insertin Size Depth 1 ¼ 2-1/4 1 ½ 2-7/16 2 2-3/4 Step 4 Hlding the fitting tightly, insert the tube straight int the fitting with a twisting mtin until the depth mark n the tube utside diameter is aligned with the end f the fitting. If the mark and the end f the fitting are nt aligned, then cntinue t push the tube t the full insertin depth. Nte - Inserting a prperly chamfered tube straight int the TECTITE fitting cup will prduce a leak free jint, reduces insertin frce, prevents -ring damage, and insures the tube is easily inserted t the crrect insertin depth. Inserting the tube at an angle and pulling it int prper alignment is pr assembly practice and may result in a leaking jint. TECTITE Fitting Assembly fr PEX Tube TECTITE fittings are designed t jin PEX water tube that meets the requirements f ASTM F876, F877. In rder t make an effective jint, a tube liner is required, see Figure 1. Tube liners have been specifically designed by EPC fr use with the TECTITE fitting prduct line; d nt substitute any ther manufacturer s tube liner. Liners are available in 1 ¼ thrugh 2 sizes. Figure 1 Typical TECTITE Tube Liner Fllw steps 1 thrugh 3 as described in the written descriptin abve. Once the tube utside diameter is marked at the prper depth, the tube liner is then inserted int the end f the tube. The liner must be pushed int the tube until the liner cllar is set firmly against the end f the PEX tube. With the tube liner in place, cmplete step 4 abve, insert the tube int the TECTITE fitting. Verify that the depth mark n the utside f the PEX tube aligns with the end f the TECTITE fitting. If the mark and the end f the fitting are nt aligned, then insert the PEX tube t the full insertin depth. Guide t Tube Remval Frm TECTITE fittings The TECTITE jining system has been designed with easy, efficient remval r discnnectin in mind. Publicatin Date: Dec. 9, 2008 Revisin CC
GUIDE TO INSTALLATION OF The fllwing remval prcedure is used fr the 1 1/4, 1 1/2 & 2 TECTITE fittings and all cmpatible tube materials. 1. Place the tangs f the adjustable spanner wrench in ppsing slts in the end cap and lsen the end cap by turning wrench in a cunter-clckwise directin (Fig. 1). Figure 1 2. Pull the end cap away frm the fitting bdy and place the remval ring arund the tube with the tapered end f the remval ring tward the grab ring (Fig. 2). 3. Slide the remval ring and end cap tward the fitting bdy and thread the cap nt the fitting bdy by turning clckwise until the threads f the end cap engage the threads f the fitting bdy (Fig. 3). 4. Screw the end cap nt the fitting bdy until it is hand tight, pull tube straight ut (Fig. 4). If the tube des nt remve easily, try tightening the end cap slightly. Excessive tightening is nt necessary t spread the teeth f the grab ring. 5. Unscrew the end cap and take ut the remval ring nce the tube is remved frm the fitting. Inspect the grab ring and -ring fr signs f damage, replace if damaged. Figure 2 Figure 3 Figure 4 6. Reinstall -ring, prtectin ring & grab ring and then screw n end cap. The fitting is ready fr tube insertin. Publicatin Date: Dec. 9, 2008 Revisin CC
General Installatin Guidelines Health and Safety Warning! D nt insert anything int the TECTITE grab ring mechanism ther than water tube, it may nt release! This warning includes human bdy parts and is critical t yur health and persnal safety. Seek emergency medical service if yu becme entangled in the grab ring mechanism. T ensure that the fittings stay clean, and the -ring is prtected frm damage, never remve the fitting frm its package until immediately prir installatin. Heat shuld nt be applied t TECTITE fittings, either directly r indirectly. TECTITE fittings shuld nt be installed in sldered r brazed piping systems until after the cmpnents have been allwed t cl. The plumbing system shuld be cl t the tuch at the time f installatin. CAUTION, BE PATIENT, BURN HAZARD! Sldering r brazing shuld nt be dne within 12 f a TECTITE fitting. DO NOT USE ANY ADDITIONAL LUBRICANTS, OR SEALING COMPOUNDS WITH TECTITE FITTINGS. Clean water may be used as a lubricant, when permitted by lcal plumbing cdes. EPC recmmends the use f a gd quality tube cutter with a sharp wheel. This will create a tube end that is ideal fr chamfering. A cnsistent chamfer width, free f burrs, is required t prduce a prper TECTITE fitting t tube jint. Failure t d s vids any and all warranties. EPC des nt recmmend the use f a saw t cut tube. If yu d use a saw, select a fine tthed blade. Take care t ensure that the tube end is cut square, de-burred, and then carefully chamfered per installatin instructins at the ID and OD f the tube. Failure t chamfer the tube end at the inside diameter creates a situatin that generates flw turbulence in plumbing systems. Turbulence, in turn, creates flw nise and the pssibility fr crrsin f the TECTITE fitting, plumbing tube, r bth. Failure t chamfer the tube end at the inside diameter vids any and all warranties. Wipe the tube end t remve all dirt and debris. This prevents damage t the -ring when inserting the tube. TECTITE fittings may be remved and re-used with tube ends prepared as described in this installatin manual. TECTITE fittings may be clsely spaced withut affecting jint perfrmance prvided tube insertin depth requirements are met. Publicatin Date: Dec. 9, 2008 Revisin CC
