Both the Clubhouse entrance roof has been repaired, and phase 1 of the kitchen renovation has been completed. The staff and numerous volunteers have done much great work to make this happen. Moving forward into this month, we have the usual Frostbite sailing and Steak Night. On the 24 th we have the Spring Members Meeting where we shall present the state of the club s finances and keep members abreast of what is going on at the club. The success of last year s Commodores Oyster Roast that followed the meeting has ensured we continue this new tradition. Please come and join us. With the cooler weather and stronger winds starting to become more favorable, the 2017 sailing is slowly starting up again. The PHRF races took place with the first three boats completing a 9-mile course and finishing within 30 seconds of each other on corrected time. The new format for the smaller boats racing in the frostbite series were at last able to get under way this weekend. A fleet of hardy MC sailors was able to make the most of the favorable weather. The tennis courts are back in action with a few tournaments kicking off as we move into spring. The fences have been repaired after the hurricane so please come out and enjoy this facility. Hope to see you at the club and please continue to spread the word about our wonderful club. Simon Simon Jenkins Commodore

General Manager s Message: Mitch McGuigan 2017 Membership: Dues and Boat Storage Dues and boat storage payments are starting to come in. A goal this year is to have dues paid by the March 31 deadline or have members registered to make monthly payments through the ACH or credit card programs. If you would like to register for either of these programs, please contact the office. Please let me know if you have not received your invoice by email or mail. We hope that all members will renew their membership, but if you are not planning to renew or store a boat, please let me know by email, phone or letter. New Members Please welcome Ron and Sharon Bernacki to BYSC. Email Issue We have just noticed that some member emails are not getting through to the club and club emails are not getting to some members. Our service provider has informed us that some national email providers are having spam issues that block incoming and outgoing emails. If you are not receiving club emails, you may need to check your junk mail folder and authorize email coming from the club. If you do not get an email response from the club within few days of your sending, please call the club. To resolve the issue, we will review our junk mail daily Our service provider has been great helping us resolve this issue. Club Renovations Thanks to the many volunteers who helped in the clubhouse renovations. We are still working on a few items, but the kitchen is open for use by members and rentals. If you wish to use the new stove, please get in touch with me for lighting instructions. John Potter and Paul Keyserling will be building pantry shelving. New kitchen wall cabinets have been ordered and should arrive in a few weeks. Simon Jenkins and John Diel have installed 8 new security cameras around the clubhouse. Club Pick-up The stolen pick-up has been replaced. In the past we have left keys in the truck for occasional member use, but our insurance company has advised us that we can longer do this. At its February meeting, the Board will develop guidelines for use of the truck. US Sailing and SAYRA Dues It s time to sign up. Scroll down to Sailing News for details. BYSC and JSB Summer Camps Registrations for both summer camps are now open. Open the following link for information and to register your campers. We are working on the docks, club house and sail shed siding, staining, painting, boat racks, landscaping, the pool and others. By Friday, I hope to activate an online sign-up. The success of the program will require some team leaders to be in charge of a project. For example we need team leaders in the following areas; landscaping, painting, cleaning, siding repair, docks and others. Team leaders will oversee projects. The club will provide logistics, materials and gratitude. Volunteering is a great way to help the club and have fun at the same time. The Sailors Meeting is scheduled for Saturday, February 11 at 10:00. At the meeting we will discuss the BYSC schedule for the year and then rules and tactics, with an emphasis on starts and mark rounding. This is a great chance to provide input, talk to old friends and competitors, and learn a bit to improve your performance. See you there. The high school (points) regatta will be held on Saturday, March 4. Last year 19 schools participated. It is an amazing event to watch. On Sunday evening, March 19 we will have a Race Committee pot luck dinner. This will be an opportunity to interact with your fellow RC members in a social setting. If you are on the Race Committee, or want to be, then please plan on being there. More info will be announced about 3 weeks before the event. See you on the water. Wayne Bretsch Race Committee Chair It's time to renew your US Sailing and SAYRA dues. US Sailing dues can be renewed by using this hyperlink: Beaufort Yacht & Sailing Club MVP Program. If you haven't used a hyperlink before, just highlight the link, right click on your mouse, "open hyperlink" and it will connect automatically. BYSC will receive credit for your membership and you will receive discounted dues and other items. This is especially a good year to renew because you will also receive a new copy of the Racing Rules of Sailing, 2017-2020. This is our racing bible and if you are a sailor or on race committee you need to have the updated rules. SAYRA is our area Yacht Racing Association that reports to US Sailing. They represent sailors in SC, NC and GA and provide a number of useful services, such as: an active junior sailing program, scheduling of club regattas to avoid conflicts and race management training. It is a good organization, hard working volunteers and they need your support. It also doesn't cost much. Use this hyperlink to join or renew: https://www.regattanetwork.com/ membermgmt/sayra/membership_registration_start.php.
