Unbelievable! We re into the heart of the season now and we have some great events scheduled for this month and next. Be sure to check out the July calendar so you don t miss out! There s one event in particular that I think is important to the future of the Clear Lake Yacht Club. On August 6, we are having our 2 nd Annual Beer & Wine Tasting and Live Auction. You don t want to miss this because (1) it s a really fun event, (2) the proceeds will go to the club s Building Preservation Fund to pay for some much needed repairs that will keep our building standing strong. We ve done some band-aid repairs and we replaced most of the windows, but there are several major structural and mechanical repairs that need to be done to avoid even bigger problems in the future. When we replaced the windows this spring, it was discovered that the support beam under the front (lakeside) wall had virtually disintegrated. Sections of the beam were replaced with the remaining section to be fixed at the end of this season when we replace the deck (which is also failing). Other projects include: replacing the roof that leaks in at least two places, replacing the siding that s rotting, replacing the plumbing with plastic water lines that don t leak, and finally coming up with a solution to the standing water under the building that caused the beam to rot. Specific project details are still being gathered and will be available at the event. Our goal as a board is to raise J U L Y 2 0 1 1 $40,000-$50,000 so we can complete these projects this coming offseason and leave future club leaders with a building that is structurally sound. The Gay family has graciously stepped up to help plan and execute the event, including providing a professional auctioneer/ coordinator. We are currently looking for 5-6 items for the live auction. These can be vacation packages, dinner packages, memorabilia, whatever. If you have an item you would like to donate, or know of someone who might be interested in donating an item, please contact me or any member of the board. And everyone can help by attending the event! Thank you in advance for anything you are able to do to help preserve the charm of our old building. See you at the Yacht Club! Chad Korte, 2011 Commodore

MARK YOUR CALENDAR YOU DON T WANT TO MISS THIS EVENT. TGIF Inside Scoop... by Sandy Ayres I want to thank everyone for their enthusiasm this season we have had a lot of volunteers for appetizers and desserts each week and offers for committee assistance for every event. THANK YOU!! This makes each Friday a fun event and distributes the work load. Check your email each Sunday night to see what is on the agenda for the following Friday!! Conservancy Summer Gala Saturday, July 30 7:00 PM 1907 Heritage Barn 6373 CR 675 N Reservations due July 20 Lights, Camera, Action!!!! Court News Come check out our new courts. They are the official USTA blue color and are a joy to play on. Thanks to all who donated to the Court Refurbishment Project. Thanks also to the many tennis members who helped get the nets and the canopy installed so play could begin! If you are interested in playing tennis, just plan to show up at the courts on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday mornings at 8:30. We will arrange the most competitive matches with the players who are available. Free junior tennis lessons will be offered to kids (8 years or older) who would like to learn the game. P a g e 3... by Barb Wenger They will be offered from July 5 until July 21 on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 3 4pm. Please contact Sandy Ginn at 260-495-2968 or 317-332-9828 (cell) if you have a child who would like to participate. Kids do not need to be CLYC Tennis Members to participate in the lessons. If you want to hone your tennis game, take advantage of the ball machine. It is stored in the shed at the back of the first court. If you have questions or suggestions or if you are a new member and need a key to the courts, please contact Barb Wenger at 495-5885 or barbwenger@gmail.com Finishing touches...putting up the nets!!! First Saturday outing From this!!! To this!!!

P a g e 4 Sailing Club News Come join us any Saturday at 1 PM. The sailors got off to a late start due to poor weather before Memorial Day but are in high gear at the present time. We have been fortunate to get Joey and Stephanie Schenkel back this year to run the committee boat and they are doing a great job. We welcome back Fred Eckert, Jack Stenger, Jeff Frank and Dan McArdle who we missed last year. We had a slight hick-up with the DNR in that they initially refused to issue a permit to hold a race over the three holiday weekends. But after some discussions, we got them to change their position. We missed the Memorial Day weekend race but will have one on the 4th and Labor Day. (There are some rumors that the wives had something to do with the initial denial.) Chris Hughes has graciously volunteered to run the sailing school this year (see article below). Three cheers for Chris. If you know someone who may be interested in attending, please have them contact Chris. To those of you who have not sailed this year you are missing a fun summer get out there!!! Join us any Saturday at 1:00. Terry Cornelius Bring a snack, life jacket and sunscreen!!! Adults welcome! Sailing Sailing School Camp Set for July 13-15 The Sailing School will be hosting a sailing camp July 13, 14, and 15 this summer. Each day will begin at 1:00pm and last until 5:00pm. Tuition is $55 per student. Club membership is not required. Students should have a snack, life jacket, and sunscreen. We encourage students 9 and above, however younger students are welcome but encouraged to be accompanied by an adult. We are also encouraging adults to join in on the sailing fun this year. If you are interested in learning to sail, want to learn about one of the boats we race on Clear Lake, or have your own boat and want to learn how to sail it better, come join the fun! Separate dates for adults may be scheduled if there is enough interest. To sign up please email CLYCSailingSchool@gmail.com, call 260-243-0448, or sign up on the sheet hanging in the Yacht Club. The Sailing School is also looking to update its fleet. This will benefit the kids in the school to become better sailors. You may donate to the Sailing School by sending a check to the club with Sailing School in the memo line, or contact the email address or phone number listed. All donations to the Sailing School are tax deductible. Chris Hughes, Sailing School Chair and Instructor T h e W i n d W o r d
