ON THE TRACTOR SEAT Volume 29, Issue 10 October 2018 THE PRESIDENTS MESSAGE Hi everyone. We had a nice turn out at our September meeting. Weather was still warm, and the fall weather was pleasant. Winter is coming.. It is with much sadness to announce the Passing of our club member, Peggy Nave, on September 6 th. Peggy enjoyed the club and the AV Fair. See picture and write-up on page 5. We would like to also thank Ron Zega, for organizing the Agua Dulce parade that took place on Sept. 15 th From Ron, another successful parade in the books Thanks everyone for making this a success. See pictures on page 6. The Branch 8 Swap meet is coming up on Saturday, November 3 rd at the International Agri-Center, Tulare, Ca. The best deals are always made in the morning! A one day event. Set-up on Friday. Food available. See page 4. The Vista Antique Engine & Tractors shows are coming up in October. See page 4 for show dates. Always a great show. On the clubs Liability Insurance issue. Good news is coming, from EDGE. An agent has been found that will cover us for Participant Liability Coverage. Adoption of this new Insurance policy will provide us the coverage we do not have now. That is coverage for an incident involving another participant of a community parade and of a member to member incident. This fills the donut hole that we now have. It does come with an additional cost per member of $5.00 more per year, and will be adopted, next April. This raises the question of increasing our dues by $5.00 to cover our costs. I will read this letter, at the October meeting.. You re Club President, Bob Hanson 1

Leesa s Birthday Report: For the Month of October 2018 Tim Rice Oct. 2nd David Pickus Oct. 12 th Tom Lee Oct. 14 th Robert Weaver Oct. 15 th Steve Sturdevant Oct. 5 th Kent Butler Oct. 13 th Linda Baker Oct. 30 th Happy Birthday to one and all ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Does this look like a Ford Tractor? NO My error. This is Kent Butler s 1947 Allis Chalmers Model B. Nice picture The right Tractor, with wrong name, in last month s Tractor Seat. I m Sorry Kent. Did I hear it from the Tractor people. Kent s other Tractor, is a Ford 8N. IN REMBERENCE OF PEGGY NAVE 1934-2018 The above picture was last taken in the Acton Parade, in 2016. Peggy went to meet her Lord, on September 6 th. Peggy was born in Tulare, Ca. on May 8, 1934. Married to Don Nave for 62 years. Don & Peggy have three children, Russell, Jamie, Lauren and two grandchildren. Peggy enjoyed the club, riding on the Tractor and the AV Fair. Don, thanks all the many people that help, in his most time of need. Peggy was 84 years young. 5

Off into the sunset Auga Dulce Parade Another successful parade is in the books. There were over 60 entries this year. We had a good turnout with four tractors and the AA truck. Bill Forbes and Debbie rode in the cab of the truck, with Rod and Lisa McKinney (and their service dog), Robert Meyer and Garry Jolly in the bed. Art Thomas drove his Farmall, Kent was on his Allis Chalmers, Clay drove Robert s Ford Tractor and I was on my TO 35 Ferguson. Lisa Mathews did not ride in the parade but provided all the appetizers, lemonade, and waitressing duties before the parade. Thanks everyone for making this a fun day.ron Zega 6

A Message from Don Young, SW Regional Director At this moment several wildfires in California, record heat, temperatures near 120. One death, several injuries, thousands of acres burned, dozens of structures lost, no rain. There have been a number of successful shows so far in the area. Attendance has been down some primarily due to excessive temperatures. For several months now, I have been relocating to a different location, and have no internet service other than what I have on my phone. We hope as the year progresses all members will follow the safety rules, and take an extra moment to be safe. Don Young, South West Regional Director of EDGE & TA FOR SALE 1949 Ford Tractor Model 8N, in running condition Victoria and Bruce Pique are looking for a happy home for their tractor. The tractor has been on their property since 1959 and was part of their purchase when they bought their home in the late 90's. I spoke with Mike at Tractoropolis in Fresno and he said from the number stamped on the engine block it is a 1949. It needs a correct one wire generator and tractor front tires to be original. It has car radials on the front now. No one has really modified much of anything that I can tell. It still has the 6 volt positive ground electrical. It has a 4 cylinder engine with the distributor on the front of the engine and 4 speed transmission. It runs and the hydraulics work to raise and lower the grader. The little trailer is so cute, as I mentioned it looks like old military surplus, but you would know more than me. They are asking $2,500 for the complete tractor, grader and trailer. They would like to find a tractor enthusiast that would enjoy it for what it is. If you have any questions please call, text or email. The tractor is located in Acton, Ca. on Ravena off of Soledad Canyon Rd. My mailing address is Mark Davey, P.O. Box 459, Acton, CA 93510. If someone would like to drive it around please call and make an appointment. George's tractors took very good care of it for years. Many thanks, Mark Davey cell 661-802-9178.Make a reasonable offer. 7
