Bob Szafranski (Glenbrook South Booster Club) sent you a message. Glenbrook South Titan Booster Club Newsletter A weekly round-up of Glenbrook South High School Athletics Thank You Matt Tarbox! The Titan Booster Club wants to thank Club member Matt Tarbox for leading the GBS Titan Booster Club Newsletter last year. Matt took the baton from longtime Club member Dale Sailer and did a tremendous job all year covering Titan sports on a weekly basis to keep our membership up-to-date on Titan sports. The Titan Nation thanks Matt for all his long hours and dedication! He raised an already high bar which we hope to live up to this year.

New Stadium Concession Stand and Restrooms Open Many thanks to all the GBS families, individuals and local businesses who help contributed more than $350,000 for the construction of a new permanent concession stand and restroom facility. Special thanks to the Glenbrook High Schools District 225 for their generous support of $147,000. The new 1,320-square-foot building will greatly enhance the fan experience at the Stadium and allow GBS to pursue hosting more IHSA post-season events. It will be open for all games played in Titan stadium and even has a spot to buy Titan Spirit Wear. The building will be formally dedicated later this fall, but it opened on time and on budget August 25 for the first football game.

Titan Dome Restored

The newly restored Titan Dome is open and looks amazing. The dome features a new floor, new bleachers and coming soon, a new scoreboard. The work started in June and lasted throughout the summer. Be sure to peek inside when you are on campus. It s bright and feels completely different in a terrific way.

Football

The Titans defeated Urban Prep-Englewood 42-0 on Friday, August 25 to take the season opener at home before a capacity crowd. Ben Hides returned the opening kickoff 58 yards to start the game and junior Jack Jerfita scored the season s first touchdown. Jerfita led the way with 99 rushing yards and two touchdowns, complemented by Hides and sophomore Andrew Gall, who had 61 yards and a touchdown and 19 yards and two touchdowns, respectively. Senior QB Jeff Chrones threw for 96 yards and finished 5-for-7, including a beautiful 49-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter. This season, the Titans are led by Conor Nash (Sr., MLB) who led the team in tackles (55) last season, Andy Sirakides (Sr., DB) who heads into season as a threeyear starter and had 50 ½ tackles last year, Zach Adams (Sr., OL), a three-year starter will move to guard after lining up at center last fall, Jalen Covington (Sr., LB/DE) a player with big-play capability (39 ½ tackles, 5 tackles-for-loss, 2 forced fumbles last year), Savantae Garner (Sr., RB), Brandon Streb (Sr., TE) who at 6- foot-3, 220 pounds, is a big target for senior QB Jeff Chrones. The football team will be honoring local veterans and the Glenview Naval Air Base on Friday, Sept. 8. Many local veterans will be in attendance and will be recognized. Let s have a great crowd that night! Mark your calendar, Senior night will be week 6 vs Niles West, on Sept. 28.

Cross Country The Boys and Girls Cross Country Teams will open the season Monday, August 21, at home against GBN. The varsity boys and girls top 10 runners combine for a 4- mile co-ed relay against GBN's top 10 for a unique and fun challenge. The rest of our teams will run a 2-mile race around the GBS Athletic Campus. The Boy's will open their invite season Labor Day Weekend (9-2) at the Crystal Lake South Invite at the most challenging course in Northwest Suburbs (Veteran's Acre Park). The girl's first invitational is this Saturday, September 2 at Fenton High School. Additionally, the boy s and girl s teams will combine their efforts for their annual Northfield Township Food Pantry "Charity Run". This marks the 20th year the teams have raised money for the Food Pantry by getting family and friends to sponsor runners for each mile run during a dedicated practice. (This year date is September 5). Going Beyond Sports, the GBS Cross Country teams have raised over $50,000 for the Food Pantry in 19 years and would welcome donations/sponsors from anyone who like to support our efforts. If any additional information is needed, please email khasenstein@glenbrook225.org. Girls Volleyball Senior Kasey Leone will be an integral part of Glenbrook South's girls volleyball club this fall. Titans coach Kelly Dorn said Leone fills any role the Titans need, as evidenced by her switch from a key hitter for the team last year to a setter this season. "Through everything she works hard, stays positive and always picks up others," Dorn told the Glenview Announcements. Leone also will fill a defensive role and play some on the right side of Glenbrook South's offense this season, Dorn said. Girls volleyball will be holding its first annual middle school night on Thursday, Aug 31, for their match against Grayslake Central. Come check out the NEWLY REFINISHED Titan Dome and cheer on your Titan volleyball teams in action at their first home match! Boys Golf The GBS boys golf team has started off the competitive season lead by Jack Grier, Brian O Connor, Jarrett Prchal, Jack Upperman and Aaron Chong. The season opened with the Prep Tour invite at Deer Park Golf Club in Oglesby, Illinois, on Thursday, August 10th. This 15 team invite found the Titans scoring 306 and placing 8th in this strong field of teams from throughout the state. Earlier this week, The Glenbrook South boys golf team opened their Central Suburban League season with a 155 to 183 win over Maine West. Girls Golf The girls golf team beat Stevenson 165-164 on August 22. Hanna Tanaka, Maria Perakis and Sophia Lau led the way for the Titans. On August 17, the team lost to Highland Park 165-167. Perakis, Lau and Tanaka and Ysabella Arrojo led the team. Boys Soccer Reggie Lara has replaced Seong Ha as the Glenbrook South coach. Lara was the boys sophomore coach last season and he spent three years as an assistant under Ha with the Titans girls teams, focusing primarily on goalkeeping. Ha remains the Glenbrook South girls coach. Lara previously served as the head coach at Notre Dame, his alma mater, in 2012 and 2013. A former goalkeeper for the Dons and Illinois Wesleyan, Lara said he wants his Glenbrook South teams to play with a bit of an edge. "I really pride myself on (my teams) having defensive discipline, organization and communication (on defense)," Lara told the Glenview Announcements.
