Dear SSOC members, The month of October was our best month EVER for donations to our THREE charities! We actually made donations to Spartanburg Humane Society, St. Luke's Free Medical Clinic, AND Safe Homes Rape Crisis Coalition! Yes, this is the first month that we have actually delivered goods and/or money to each organization I am so excited to tell you that our monthly raffles and donation box, as well as some individual donations, brought in $550 for St. Luke's. Each of us on the board would like to extend a big THANK YOU to everyone that helped us achieve this record breaking month. Awesome Good Job!!!!! Joy Social at Alpine Ski Center Sunday, November 11 1-4 pm 30 Orchard Park Drive (near Haywood Mall) Alpine Ski Center in Greenville is our local ski shop. Our club is partnering with our friends in the Palmetto Ski Club to hold a social at Alpine. Mike Bopp, Palmettos race director is making a tasty chili with fixings for us. Water is provided and you can bring your own alcohol. I will ask for a head count at our November 1 meeting so Mike knows how much chili to make. This event is for skiers, non skiers and prospective members. There will be special Alpine prices for us and this is a good time to drop your skis off for a tune up or new wax. Our club will have a display table and we hope to attract new members. See you there, Mark Page 5

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!! No wait! It s not Christmas, we haven t even made it to Thanksgiving yet. At least I hope I got your attention now. It s never too early to start planning and that is what your Board is doing. Joy Bobo has blessed us by agreeing to host a party at her home again. She will also be our private caterer! Mmmm, just think of the food she makes. Last year s party was a success, so why change it? Mark your calendars now, it s an AFTER Christmas party to ease the tension and hustle bustle of the pre-christmas rushes. WHEN--------Saturday, December 29, 2018 WHERE------Joy Bobo s in Reidville SC TIME---------6:30 PM COST--------$20.00 (Members) $25.00 (Guests) NO MINI SOCIAL IN DECEMBER instead, let s be social at our Holiday Party what a great way to end the year! In January, you can enjoy a hot pizza & a cold brew at the Brickhouse Pizzeria & Grill located at 103 N Daniel Morgan Ave, Spartanburg, SC. We will dine there on Thursday, January 10 th at 6:30 pm. It is hard to believe but Christmas is right around the corner. Keeping this in mind we are going to begin collecting Christmas items for Safe Homes. We are collecting new toys and items for infants, children and ladies that are staying in the house. If you would purchase it for your family it is most likely something that would be appreciated by the residents. We only have two meetings to collect a sleigh full of toys, so let's get busy! I will also have a great raffle item at the November wine tasting meeting. You don't want to miss this one! Joy Hmmmmmmm so, what do I want to get rid of this year???? Everybody probably gets something for Christmas from someone that may or may not be an oh, wow - just what I wanted gift! So, WHEN you do, consider bringing it to our Holiday Party on December 29 th. We will have a re gifting swap this year for those wishing to participate. Make sure it is wrapped and when it is picked & someone opens it, try not to show too much pleasure knowing it is out of your hands - OR, you may give yourself away! If you don t get any presents, or if they are all good then you ll just have to go through your junk drawers & closets or make a trip to the Dollar General- Ho Ho Hardy Ho Ho! Alison Page 8

NOTES Any Spartanburg Ski Club member may submit items for publication in the newsletter. Publication deadlines can be found on the pullout calendar included in the newsletter each month. Call Taylor for information on how to submit your newsletter item. Also, don t forget - the club has a tent available for rent. It is an 18 X 20 tent, and it is easy to assemble. We also have 4 tables that can be rented with or without the tent. We have the makings for that special occasion and it is all very reasonably priced! Tent rental is $ 35. Tables can be rented for $5 per table. Remember; don t have a party without the comfort of shade. Your guests will appreciate it and so will the club! For rentals of either tent or tables contact Joy Bobo. The Spartanburg Ski & Outing Club normally meets the first Thursday of each month at 7:00 PM. We are located at the Chapman Cultural Center (West Wing) on East St. John Street in Spartanburg on the first floor. During the summer months (June, July, and August) meetings are frequently held, more informally, at different sites and times. Therefore it is necessary to consult the club web site or a current newsletter for the time and location. April s meeting is held at the Piedmont Club. The club does not provide alcoholic beverages at membership meetings, but members are allowed to bring their own (BYOB) choices of beer or wine. Over-indulgence is not condoned under any circumstances. Cups, ice, and some soft drinks are provided. Thank you.
