Activities at make the most of our natural bushland and coastal setting, large grassed areas and variety of indoor and sheltered spaces. You can choose to conduct activities on site or throughout Port Sorell at the beautiful estuary, river and beach. Some activities are delivered by local experts including the Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife Service (PWS) Discovery Rangers and the Snake Catcher Burnie (SCB), others can be self-led using s facilities and equipment. Activities can be arranged to fit your schedule and modified to suit each group s needs and abilities. Please note: a minimum booking of 3 hours for Parks and Wildlife sessions is required Monday Friday with the ability to mix and match activities to fill the booking. Learn about whale and dolphin strandings and how we can help them survive. (PWS). Freer s Beach (Adjacent to ) 1 hour 10 40 70 Buckets, spades and tarps are supplied Bush Survival Skills Learn safe bush walking practices and skills. How to pitch a tent. How to improvise a shelter. Awareness of animals e.g. devils & snakes. (Very good team building activity). (PWS). Bush adjacent to Camp Banksia 1 hour 10 20 25-30 Tent and tarps are supplied

Penguin Viewing (4 km return walk from end of Hawley Beach) Visit the local Little Penguin colony at Port Sorell. See them returning to their burrows after a day s fishing. Best time to view the Little Penguins is from Nov to April but some can be seen all year. (PWS). Hawley Point 2 hours. Start at dusk 10 25 30 Bus required. BYO torches. Day Walk to Carbuncle (10km return) Can incorporate Rock Pool Ramble, Whales and Dolphins & Bird Watching Take a packed lunch or BBQ (May wish to incorporate with a Penguin Viewing). (PWS). Port Sorell foreshore 9am to 2pm or 1pm to 6pm 20 30 50+ Bus may be required as this is a long walk. Narawntapu National Park Day Trip Day visit to see the Serengeti of Tasmania. Varies throughout the year. Wildlife during the day and at sunset. Bushwalks, rock pool rambles, vegetation study. This excursion can incorporate many of the other activities listed here. Take a pre packed lunch or BBQ evening meal. (PWS). Narawntapu National Park 9am to 4pm or 1pm to 8.30pm 20 30 50+ Bus required 30 min drive each way. Advanced Booking required with Parks & Wildlife. Entry exemptions may be available for educational purposes. Introduction to Wildlife The ranger will talk about the local wildlife and their habitat. See real life specimens; devil, fox, possum, snake etc. (PWS). Main Hall 1 / 2 hour to 1 hour 10 30 50+ No equipment required.

Beach Walk Walk the length of the beach studying sand formations & tides, collect shells, seaweed etc., and gain an understanding of the natural forces at work. (PWS). Freer s Beach (Adjacent to ) 1 1 / 2 hours 10 25 30+ ID sheets supplied. Snake Awareness & Reptile Show Learn the role played by snakes in the environment, how to avoid being bitten by one plus practical and accurate first aid. (PWS). Main Hall 1 / 2 hour to 1 hour 10 15 20-25 Crepe bandage rolls supplied. Enjoy the talent of an experienced snake catcher! Held within a fully secured snake pit. See, feel and learn all about snakes and reptiles. (SCB). Main Hall or outdoors 1 1 / 2 hours 10 20 30 Crepe bandage rolls supplied. Rock Pool Rambles View the inhabitants of rock pools (temporary removal only no collecting). Categorise and identify them. Low tide needed. (PWS). Hawley Beach 3 / 4 hour 10 20 20-25 No equipment required.

Bicycles Bicycles that range in sizes are available onsite. The bikes can be ridden around the camp or take a longer trip down the nearby bike track along the beachfront. 15 Bikes of various sizes Helmets supplied. Tennis Courts Onsite tennis courts are available for groups to use. 2 courts Tennis racquets and tennis balls supplied. Basketball, Volleyball, Netball or Badminton The Banksia Centre has a full sized indoor basketball stadium which can also be set up for other sports such as volleyball, netball or badminton. Onsite in the Banksia Centre All nets, hoops, balls and scoring equipment is available on request.

The Performing Arts room can be utilised as indoor space for inclement weather, playing games or putting on a show. The choices are only limited to your imagination! Onsite in the Banksia Centre Chairs and tables supplied upon request. Port Sorell Golf Club A 9 hole, 18 tee golf course is next door to the camp. We can book a slot for you or alternatively a booking can be made directly through the Port Sorell Golf Club pro shop. 1 Kilometre from Camp Banksia BYO Golf clubs or hire clubs from the pro shop. Freers Beach A fantastic beach for fun, sand and play. A tidal bay allows groups to walk out to Penguin Island or swim and play in the safe shallows. 300 metres from Camp Banksia Remember to slip, slop slap! Fishing Rods Going fishing is a great way to enjoy the beach, relax and take in the beautiful surrounds of Port Sorell. Groups can fish nearby off the beach or take a walk to the Port Sorell pontoon about a kilometre from the camp. Close to Camp 6 Bait is not supplied.
