S P O R T S SAILING Just as USA Sailing selected the San Francisco Bay to host the 2000 Olympic Trials, BASOC is proud to designate this outstanding sailing area as the site for Sailing in the 2012 Olympic Games. The venue will be established on Treasure Island, where BASOC is working with the Treasure Island Sailing Center to develop a site where disadvantaged children can learn to sail. The infrastructure on Treasure Island will be enhanced to meet all the requirements of the Olympic Sailing competition, with additional docks, mooring fields and hoists. Existing buildings will provide office, measurement, lounge, media and meeting spaces. The venue is situated in a sheltered bay between Treasure Island and Yerba Buena Island. BASOC plans to develop not only a Sailing venue on Treasure Island, but also a Tennis Center and an Olympic Exposition. The most important factor is the San Francisco Bay itself. With world-class sailing conditions and abundant opportunities for spectators (given the vast fleet of tour boats operating on the San Francisco Bay and the parklands that dot the shores of the island). With incomparable scenic beauty from the Golden Gate Bridge to the Bay Bridge and Alcatraz and Angel Island in between, the San Francisco Bay can provide in 2012 for the most spectacular Sailing competition ever staged for the Olympic Games. In strict accordance with the answers given for question 9.1.1, give a detailed list of the total number of proposed competition venues, indicating the disciplines and events to be held at each site.
