Membership on our Spirit Squad offers a unique opportunity for personal growth, leadership, and involvement in diverse activities.the Attitude, dedication, and enthusiasm of the squad members are just as important as the skills involved in spirit leading. Members of the Spirit Squad must be committed to the highest level of athleticism, performance, self-discipline, respect for the school and others, personal exemplary conduct and the performance of all responsibilities related to the pursuit of school spirit and pride. Furthermore, spiritleaders must demonstrate a proven ability to balance academic requirements and demands with extra-curricular and personal activities. Panther Cheer Spirit Squad General Objectives: 1. Provide opportunities for participation in a wide variety of activities during every sport and competition season. 2. Be an integral, well-coordinated part of the school s student leadership program. 3. Assist participants in the development of athletic and leadership skills. 4. Promote and uphold school spirit, unity, and pride while representing the school at the highest caliber. 5. To develop and practice effective time management strategies. 6. Provide opportunities for participants to develop socially through cooperation, competition, and appropriate standards of social behavior. Setting an example of good behavior and sportsmanship at all times (whether in uniform or not). Panther Cheer Spirit Squad Specifics : Qualifications: In order to participate on the OHS Panther Cheer Spirit Squad, a student is required to meet the following guidelines: Students must be academically eligible (based upon official quarter/progress report grades) to try-out and to perform at any sporting event or assembly. Additionally, students must maintain an adequate level of physical fitness throughout the entire year.

Mission / Purpose: All Panther Cheer Spirit Squad members first responsibility is to academics. Each student s first priority MUST be core academic learning. If at any time a student s grades reflect a D or F, remediation will be facilitated and Spirit Squad duties will be amended, or suspended, until which time as the grades have risen to an acceptable level. The most visible function of the Spirit Squad is to support interscholastic athletics and to promote school pride, spirit, and unity. This refers to all three sports seasons, both boys and girls athletics. A Panther Cheer Spirit Squad member must set a good example of Panther Pride and proper behavior for others to follow. Discipline: Members should be present at all scheduled practices during the summer and throughout the school year. ALL OTHER ACTIVITIES MUST BE SCHEDULED AROUND THESE PRACTICES, including work schedules. The only valid excuse for missing a game or practice is illness or a death in the family. After school jobs, babysitting, transportation, and excessive homework are not considered valid excuses for absences from games or practices. Missing practices, even with a valid excuse, can still lead to being removed from a routine position or stunt, due to not physically being available to practice. During game suspensions, the squad member will sit, in uniform, with the coach/advisor for the entire game. Attendance for the full academic school day is required for participation in any game/performance, unless excused by an OHS administrator. Poor Academic Performance Repercussions: One D = tutoring during lunch and/or during 6th period 2-3x/week, probation while cheering, and academic counseling with the coach/advisor until ALL grades are C or better.
