Hunting News 3 May: Part 1 Campaign Preview HTML Source Plain-Text Email Details Good day and welcome to our third hunting report of the year! Hunting season is in full swing and we had some great hunters over in May. We hunted a few buffalo this past month and some tremendous plains game! Our hunters have taken down so many great animals, that our May report will be split into two parts. Welcome to Part 1! We also had a client doing a not-so-common rhino dart hunt... Together with an experienced PH and a wildlife vet, the hunter enjoys tracking a rhino on foot. A Rhino Dart Hunter enjoys all the thrills of a real hunt, stalking the rhino much closer than any rifle hunter normally would. Darting safaris have created a mutually beneficial situation, as the client is able to complete his Big Five (SCI recognizes this form of hunting for the SCI record book) and the rhino owner benefits as his animal is micro-chipped, ensuring effective monitoring and anti-poaching. Please enjoy below our report on our first May hunts! https://us11.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns/show?id=1184658 1/22

"The 'gray ghost', ubiquitous cliche that it is, is still about the best description anyone has come up with to describe the greater kudu. A kudu doesn't emerge from the bush, it materializes; they do not walk into deep cover, they vanish like smoke in a stiff breeze....there is no more impressive single trophy to be had than the horns of a mature greater kudu." - Terry Wieland Tyler Turner Plains Game Hunt We met Tyler Turner at the beginning of the year at the DSC Show in Dallas and we were delighted to welcome him to South Africa for an incredibly exciting plains game safari! Tyler kindly sent us a report on the highlights of his safari... "On the first evening, my PH and I very quietly stalked a nice trophy eland at a water hole. As the trophy bull was leaving, I shot and hit him right in the shoulder. It looked like some huge bull at a rodeo, but without a person riding it. The distance the bull was able to jump with all four legs was quite something to see. That animal was also my favorite animal to shoot. I didn't really forget how beautiful they really are." https://us11.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns/show?id=1184658 2/22

Tyler next took down a really great blue wildebeest, red hartebeest and bushbuck. As the hunt continued, Tyler added a great nyala and kudu to his list... "Looking for kudu in the Limpopo mountains was very awesome and cool. It reminded me of hunting huge elk in the Colorado mountains. Trying to stalk up and down mountains wherever you are is no easy task." https://us11.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns/show?id=1184658 3/22

Before ending the Limpopo leg of the hunt and heading to the North-West province, Tyler took down a great sable, and a gemsbuck! https://us11.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns/show?id=1184658 4/22

The hunters moved on to the North-West Province, where Tyler hunted a black wildebeest, impala and a really great giraffe! A small anecdote from Tyler's hunt... "While my PH, skinner, the landowner and I were hunting, we came upon a pod of hippos. When we walked past them, while they were in the water, one hippo did his warning call and seemed like it was about to come out of the water, "which it almost did!". The skinner, Benjamin thought it was funny to shuffle his feet like the hippo was about to come out of https://us11.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns/show?id=1184658 5/22

Benjamin, thought it was funny to shuffle his feet like the hippo was about to come out of the water and attack us. At first we didn't think it was too funny, but got a huge laugh just from him giggling the rest of the hunting trip. He called me HIPPO MAN the rest of the trip as well. It was a great trip and one that I will remember forever." Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to host you on this great hunt, Tyler! We had a great time seeing you again and hunting with you! Please come back soon and happy hunting! https://us11.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns/show?id=1184658 6/22

Anstey Father and Son Safari We met Brian Anstey in 2015 at the outdoor show in Novi and after two years of planning, we were very excited to welcome him and his son, Brian II, to South Africa for a great plains game hunt. This father and son pair took down some absolutely great trophies and Brian sent us a fantastic account of their hunt. "It was a fantastic start to the hunt with my zebra stud at 177 yards with my Winchester.300 WSM. My son got his first big game with a great kudu bull standing deep in the bush. After stalking to within 40 yards, he had to shoot through the eye of the needle with a 30.06 but he did it! What a great day!" https://us11.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns/show?id=1184658 7/22

"On the second day we found the animals very skittish and difficult to get within range. Finally, late in the afternoon, we spied a good gemsbuck a long way off. Had to go crosscountry to get to him and nailed him at 203 yards with the.300 WSM. The third day was our last hunting day in the North West Province and we were looking for springbuck. Found a nice one early in the morning and shot him in the chest at 122 yards. We spent the day driving to the Limpopo and stopped en-route to pick up supplies. Late in the day, I had a quick snap shot at a warthog running across the track in front of us. Got him on the run with the.300 at 25 yards." "Both of us shot our Impalas about an hour and a half apart, at 104 yards for my son and 133 yards for mine. The following day, late afternoon, we saw three kudu deep in the brush. After a short stalk, I was able to get a shot at 80 yards with the.300 to finally bag a very nice bull. Later that same afternoon, we spotted a blesbuck about 200 yards across a water hole but he moved off before I was able to get a shot We trailed him for about a half https://us11.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns/show?id=1184658 8/22

water hole but he moved off before I was able to get a shot. We trailed him for about a half mile and got him at 130 yards with the.300." https://us11.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns/show?id=1184658 9/22

"The last day was the most exciting hunt of the trip. We sighted a zebra herd about a mile away, drove to within a half mile and then stalked for about 45 minutes. Each time my son got within range, they moved away. Finally he got a shot at 80 yards with the 30.06 into the shoulder to knock him down but he limped away. Brian and PD trailed him for about 20 minutes and was able to get a second shot into the heart to wrap up our hunt. What a great experience to end our African adventure! After thirty years of dreaming and a year of planning, Somerby delivered on a hunt of a lifetime for my son and I." "On our last day in Johannesburg, we traveled downtown into the heart of the city for a nostalgic visit to take pictures of the Anstey Building, the original site of Anstey's Department Store which had been a show place in its day. When it was completed in 1936, it was the tallest building in Africa (and the Southern Hemisphere!)." https://us11.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns/show?id=1184658 10/22

Anstey's Building, in downtown Johannesburg, back in its heyday We would like to thank the Brians for joining us in Africa on this fantastic trip! What a great experience for a father and son to have together... We had such a great time hunting with you and hope to see you again very soon! Hatzell Father and Daughter Safari We were very happy to meet Paul Hatzell in at the SCI Hunters' Convention in Las Vegas at the beginning of the year. Paul was very keen to come and hunt with us and bring his daughter Shannon along, and we were so excited when everything fell into place and we picked up this father-daughter duo at the beginning in May to embark on this great hunt! The duo collectively took down a number of fantastic plains game! Shannon started off the hunt by taking down a great kudu. She additionally took a gemsbuck, blue wildebeest, warthog, black wildebeest, impala, zebra, eland, springbuck and duiker. Shannon hunted the majority of her animals with her bow. https://us11.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns/show?id=1184658 11/22

https://us11.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns/show?id=1184658 12/22

Paul also took down two great trophies, a lovely lechwe and a red hartebeest. https://us11.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns/show?id=1184658 13/22

g p, y Paul is our client who did the rhino dart. He described it as an amazing experience and reported back that it was a lot of fun and all very professional! Please see Paul with the sedated rhino below. https://us11.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns/show?id=1184658 14/22

Thank you very much Paul and Shannon for coming to visit with us in South Africa! It was a pleasure to host you and we hope to see you again soon! Carl Keller Plains Game Safari We met Carl through our very good friend George Dante of Wildlife Preservations in New Jersey. We were so happy to hear from him and start planning on a great plains game hunt. Carl came to see us at the beginning of the year at George's studio. It was really great to meet him and then to welcome him to South Africa at the beginning of May! Carl has hunted in Zimbabwe before and regaled us with some great tales about his previous hunts! The hunt started off in the Limpopo and Carl kicked off the hunt with a fine zebra, taken down with his 300 Winchester Model 70 at 80 yards. https://us11.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns/show?id=1184658 15/22

Carl next took down a great impala, also using his 300, with 189 grain Nosler Partition bullets at about 80 yards. Right in the heart! What followed was a fantastic blue wildebeest that Carl shot at dusk over a dam at about one hundred and forty yards, with his 375 Winchester. https://us11.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns/show?id=1184658 16/22

The last buck was also taken down with the abovementioned 300. Carl had initially set out for a warthog but when the hunters came across a beautiful blesbuck, they just couldn't resist! PH TJ had an absolute blast hunting with Carl! He reported back that Carl is an incredible shot, shooting all of his animals straight in the heart. The shot placements were just perfect, leading to an amazingly successful hunt. Well done Carl! It was a pleasure to hunt with you! Thank you very much for coming to hunt with us Carl... With your great skills, you took down some great trophies! We look forward to the next one! It is always a treat to hunt with such a seasoned hunter. Hoping to see you again soon! Boxer and Dotan Safari We were so excited to welcome back our good friends Shmuel Boxer and Efraim Dotan from Israel for another great safari. Shmuel and Efraim have been hunting with us since 2015. We really missed their wives, Hagit and Tammy who have joined us previously on safari. Shmuel and Efraim enjoyed a great hunt in the Kalahari and in the North West. It was a veritable hunting spree and our friends took down some really amazing trophies! First and foremost, Shmuel and Efraim each took a great buffalo each. Nice job! https://us11.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns/show?id=1184658 17/22

Shmuel and Efrain collectively hunted the following superb animals: 5 Zebras 3 Gemsbuck 3 Duiker 2 Springbuck 1 Red Hartebeest 1 Blesbuck 1 Steenbuck https://us11.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns/show?id=1184658 18/22
