The roster is rounded off by five juniors, six sophomores, and eight freshmen. The team welcomed ten newcomers to the Bengal family as two athletes were JUCO transfers. Last season the Bengals made 26 goals from 268 shot attempt leading to a 1.33 goals scored average. ISU had 130 shot on goals over the season. Idaho State had 83 corner kicks and had 14.9 shots per game with 27 assists. Starting off aggressively ISU took most of its shots in the first half of a game but was more accurate in the second half when they recorded 16 goals in the second half of games over the season and ten goals in the first half of games. The ability to score late in play is a credit to the Bengals stamina and drive on the field. Preseason Poll The Idaho State soccer team was picked sixth in the 2008 preseason poll with 24 points, just two points below Portland State who was picked to finish fifth. The poll was baaed on votes from the conference coaches and the coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams. Allison Gibson enters her third season as the head coach at Idaho State University. In her first season with the Bengals, Gibson reestablished the soccer tradition at Idaho State, leading the Bengals to both a Big Sky Conference regular season title and a tournament championship. The tournament title earned the Bengals an automatic bid to the 2006 NCAA College Cup, where the team nearly upset 11th-ranked Utah on its home field, falling 3-2 in double overtime. Under Gibson s direction, nine Bengals landed spots on the All-Conference team and five earned places on the All-Tournament team. On her watch, nine Bengals also received Big Sky All-Academic honors. Gibson was named Big Sky Conference Coach of the Year for her accomplishments during the 2006 season. During the 2007 season Gibson posted a 7-5-6 overall record, Gibson tied the record for the fewest losses in a season. Unfortunately, a string of ties (that set the record at ISU for most tied games in a season) kept the Bengals from the Conference Championship by one point. The third-year coach also serves the soccer community in numerous roles. She served as the head coach of the U-16 Olympic Development Program team this past year, marking the seventh year that the coach has been involved in the program. Gibson came to Idaho State after a five-year stint as the top assistant at the University of San Francisco of the West Coast Conference, considered one of the nation s best soccer conferences. While serving as an assistant for the Dons, Gibson also served as a head coach in the Region IV Olympic Development Program, coaching the U-14 Regional Team. At USF, Gibson handled all matters of coaching, including practice planning, travel, scouting, recruiting and USF summer camps. She also developed a leadership workshop for student-athletes. Gibson was highly decorated as a player, leading Sonoma State University to a pair of NCAA College Cup appearances, including the Final Four in 1992, and a Final Eight appearance in 1993. She led the Cossacks to a pair of Northern California Athletic Conference championships, earning NCAC Player of the Year both in 1992 and 1993, while leading SSU to a 31-9 composite record. She also earned All-America honors both years from the National Soccer Coaches Association of American. In 2000, Gibson was inducted into Sonoma State s Hall of Fame She then became an assistant coach at SSU, helping the Cossacks to a 29-6-1 record over the next two seasons, and two more postseason trips. Ironically, SSU s volunteer coach for the 1995 season was Gordon Henderson, who served as Idaho State very first head coach from 1998-2003. Gibson later went on to play professionally in Japan for three seasons with the Fujita Mercury before returning to the United States, where she worked as the Director of Coaching of the Youth Girls for the Colorado Rush Soccer Club in Denver. Allison graduated from Sonoma State in 1995 with a bachelor s degree in kinesiology, and she earned her master s in 2004 from the University of San Francisco in organization and leadership. She holds a United States Soccer Federation A coaching license. 2008 BENGAL SOCCER GAME NOTES Fifth Year Senior Sustains Injury During the second week of practice fifth year senior Eves- Williams sustained an injury while blocking a corner kick shot. Though she initially attempted to shake off the injury Eves- Williams had broken her thumb. Eves-Williams, who was granted a fifth year by the NCAA, would have certainly been one of the starting goalkeepers for the Bengals in the 2008 season, and although a disappointment to the team it will not set the Bengals back. Eves-Williams posted six shutouts as well as 101 saves during the 2007 season. She recorded the most saves in the Big Sky Conference and the held the second best goals against average and save percentage for the season. Due to the fifth year ruling Eves-Williams would have had to miss the first two games for the Bengals, but may now be out of play for four to eight weeks. If she misses four weeks Eves-Williams would be in shape to play in the middle of preseason games, if eight weeks is needed she should be back before conference play. At the same time, the Bengals are not short goalkeepers. Idaho State has three additional goalkeepers on the roster, sophomore and freshmen and Bailey Williams. Though Eves-Williams was sure to be one of the starting keepers for the Bengals another goalkeeper will have the chance to step up. Until Eves-Williams heals she will continue to participate and will be integrated into practices with the team as much as possible. Bengal fans will also see her cheering loudly from the bench during games as her injury heals. Her leadership and experience will be a positive force as the underclass keepers continue to work hard and fight for the keeper position. About Northwest Nazarene Idaho State will be competing against Northwest Nazarene for the first time on Wednesday, August 20, in an exhibition match. The Crusaders begin their season play against Idaho State. Northwest Nazarene comes off a 7-10-2 overall season with a 4-9-1 Great Northwest Athletic Conference record. The Crusaders held a 2-4-2 away record during the 2007. Northwest Nazarene sustains a roster of two seniors, three juniors, seven sophomores and five freshmen. Included in the roster is Molly Tipton who played from 2006-07 in the Big Sky Conference for Eastern Washington. Pg. Soccer Game Notes Idaho State University 2008

Idaho State soccer celebrated ten years of soccer tradition in 2007. Over ten years Idaho State has maintained a.500 record (83-83-22) and made four NCAA tournament appearances, the last being under the direction of head coach Allison Gibson in 2006, her first season for the Bengals. Gibson completed her second year in 2007 with a superb defense that stifled a large portion of her opponents leading to a 7-5-6 overall record and a 2-2-3 Big Sky Conference Record. The Bengals excellent defense set several records, leading to an undefeated home season for the first time in school history. In addition, the Bengals set the record for the most tied games in a season which kept the Bengals from competing in the Big Sky Conference Tournament by one point. I think last year we played better soccer, said head coach Gibson. The number of ties was tough. This year we are going to move some positions around and develop more attacking opportunities. According to Gibson, Hofstetter will be a pivotal link between the attack and the backline for the Bengals. She is one of the smoothest players I ve seen and she utilizes her strengths, stated Gibson. Hofstetter assisted six goals for the 2007 season. She tied for the third most assists in the Big Sky Conference and tied for first with the most assists per game for the season. The Bengals will look to Davis-Boehler to continue her excellent goal-making ability as she recorded a team high of six goals.
