Wolf enews Special Olympics Basketball Team: Gold Medal Winners May 29, 2018 Calendar Westside s Special Olympics Basketball Team travelled to Arlington, Texas last week for the Special Olympics Texas 2018 Summer Games. The University of Texas at Arlington campus was transformed into the Olympic Village for the fourday event, hosting over 2500 athletes from around the state of Texas. Westside High School was represented by 11 Wolves, who were accompanied by teachers Ms. Kodlubanska and Ms. Suleimanji, Coach Dion Williams, and two parent chaperones. The Westside basketball team played hard and took home Gold Medals in their bracket. Additionally, four Wolves participated in the Individual Skills competition and earned medals as well. Ms. Renata Kudlobanska shared that the experience gives her students an opportunity to be independent and build relationships with their friends. Ms. Suleimanji also commented that the social benefits of travelling out of town as a team are remarkable for these young athletes. Congratulations to our Wolves! Westside Senior 3rd in Nation in Junior Olympics Ian Gunther, pictured 2nd from right Earlier this month, Westside senior, Ian Gunther, placed third in the United States in Junior Olympics Men s All Around Gymnastics. Ian competed in the 2018 Men s Junior Olympics National Championship in Oklahoma City and took home a collection of hardware. In addition to earning the Bronze Medal in All Around, he also got Gold Medals for both Pommel and Parallel Bars, Bronze on Still Bars, and a fifth place medal on High Bar. Ian will be attending Stanford University in the fall and will be a member of the Cardinal Gymnastics Team. He is graduating with Honors from Westside and was the recipient of a Heart of the Wolf Award presented at Senior Honors Night last week. Congratulations to Ian! We look forward to following him in the future!
