Gainesville Country Club Gainesville, Florida General Manager (GM/COO) search Mission Statement: The mission of the Gainesville Country Club is to offer a lifestyle to its members that includes high quality recreational facilities, member services and social opportunities in an open, friendly and familyoriented environment. The Club The original private club of Gainesville, known as the Palm Point Country Club, was established in 1918. The clubhouse was a frame building on pilings that overlooked Newnan s Lake. Members enjoyed fishing, picnicking, swimming, boating and dining. In 1919, members of Palm Point became interested in golf. Because there was not enough room on the lakefront property for a golf course, land on Southwest Second Avenue near the University of Florida was purchased with bonds worth about $15,000. The clubhouse from Palm Point was moved to the new site and Gainesville Golf and Country Club was established on June 8, 1921. It was the first golfing club in North Florida. The formal opening of the first 9 holes was on January 2, 1922. Although The Great Depression brought the club several very lean years, with vigorous fundraising, sufficient capital was collected to build a second 9 holes, which were opened for play on June 11, 1934. In 1947, the old frame building was demolished and a new clubhouse was constructed on site. Again needing to expand its services and facilities, the club moved to land near Paynes Prairie on Williston Road that was donated by the developers of Country Club Estates. On November 15, 1963, the club celebrated its official opening at the current location with a new clubhouse, an 18-hole golf course, a driving range, 6 tennis courts and an Olympic-sized pool. The original course is now the Mark Bostick Golf Course at the University of Florida. In 1992, Gainesville Country Club employed the services of Mark McCumber and Associates to rebuild all golf greens using USGA standards.

Today, Gainesville Country Club continues to be a vibrant part of the community, celebrating over 90 years of growth and looking positively into the future.
