Issue No. 5 2017/18 #wccredcaps THE ONLY PLACE TO GET ALL THE REDCAP NEWS Est.1942/43 Newsflash from Cricket Australia David Warner should join the circus What a clown! Firstly, special thanks to Chris Griffin and Steve Creelman for organizing and erecting our sponsorship signage at the Geoff McRae Training Complex. The advertising looks impressive and promotes our sponsors in a way fitting of their great support. The club committee is currently in the process of updating our honour boards. These will be installed in the clubrooms immediately. We are also trying to locate/obtain premiership photos and these will be in place at the commencement of next season. Since our last Wobbler there have been a number of fine individual performances throughout our senior and junior grades. The highlight has been 3 rd XI centuries in the same game to skipper Matt Jones 128 and Under16 player Sid Rajesh 100 not out. Matt and Sid combined for a MAGNIFICENT PARTNERSHIP of 209. Equally impressive were consecutive centuries by Loris Bayly in the Under 16 competition [ 101 n.o and 100 n.o.] Congratulations Loris.

Congratulations to our two under 16 1 st XI teams that have qualified for the finals. Co-incidentally, our two teams are pitted against each other in the Division 1 semi-final this weekend. Good luck to all who are involved. Thanks also to those coaches and parents who have in any way assisted with Under12 cricket, Milo Cricket or the Girls teams. Your contribution is much appreciated and certainly helps the club continue to grow and prosper. a job well done!
Semi Finals Senior semi-finals begin this week and it is pleasing to have our 1 st and 2 nd XI teams involved. Webby and Justin have led the teams very well and we look forward to continued strong performances over the weekend. The 2 nds are playing at the Western Oval on Saturday and Sunday and the 1 st XI are up at Alfredton. We encourage all members, supporters, juniors and past players to get along to these games to support the teams in their quest for a grand final berth. Unfortunately both of our 3rds teams narrowly missed finals participation, finishing 5 th and 6 th on the ladder. Both teams, which were very young, acquitted themselves exceptionally well across the season and thanks must go to Luke Robertson and Matt Jones on their fine leadership. The 5 th XI s season is also over and they continued to perform admirably over the final weeks of the season with the highlight being a win against Ballarat Redan in the penultimate match of the season. This team consisted of the very old, the very young and occasional ring-ins who all played the game in terrific spirit throughout the season. Well done!
5 ths prepare for tilt at flag next season The 5 th XI ended their season on a high last weekend by giving ladder leader Lucas a real scare in the final match. There are many positives to come out of their season and they are all ready for another tilt at the One Day B Grade flag next season!
Girls Cricket Well done to 4 of our U13 girls Grace Argall, Lilly Davis, Gabby Dwane & Jensen Hoare who recently represented the Ballarat Cricket Association in a Country Week type carnival in Ballarat, playing against the Grenville, Grampians and Gisborne Associations. The girls' season has finished for this year, but it has been a huge success. We had 2 teams in the U13 Girls Competition. We re all very excited about the future of girls cricket at Wendouree and can t wait for next season! Redcap Coaches Acknowledged.. Special congratulations are extended to Peter Le Lievre and David Knight who recently received Central Highlands Regional coaching awards for their continued fine work at club, association and regional level. Well done Peter and David. The club is extremely grateful for your tireless work and the enthusiasm that you continue to demonstrate. Also acknowledged on the night were Tony Davis in the Junior Coach of the Year category and Brett Yates in the Milo Coordinator of the Year category.
Red Cap Reviver The club s recent Reverse Raffle was again a successful fundraiser and thanks are extended to Ryan Simmonds and Darren Woodyatt for their organization and running of the function. Past player, enthusiastic supporter and banana bender, Allan Matheson was the lucky winner - for the second time (in suspicious circumstances) an investigation is currently underway by the Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation! Matho follows the fortunes of our club with interest and continues to support us from afar. Presentation Nights... Please note the following dates that have been determined for our junior and senior presentation evenings to be held at the clubrooms. Juniors Wednesday March 28th Seniors Friday April 6th If possible, please make the effort to attend these functions as we acknowledge, congratulate and thank the players, coaches, parents and supporters for their effort and contribution during the season.
Invitational Games Our Club XI s have also played annual invitational games recently with the juniors playing against Lara from the Geelong District Cricket Association and our over 45 s team playing against the Grampians C.C. from the Hamilton C.A.. The junior team had an exciting victory with the following players doing particularly well Luke Williams 40* retired, Tom Cleary 26 and excellent wicket keeping, Lucas Argall 22 and 2/11 (Player of the Match for WCC), Zack Maple bowled well and effected 2 run outs, Charlie Sutton also kept well and Brock Reid batted competently making 16 runs. In the retirees match we were defeated for the 6 th successive occasion and it was decided post match that there needs to be a serious review undertaken of the captaincy situation. President Max is keen to take over the reins from he who shall not be named Ivan. Max is confident that a new broom will sweep clean which effectively means that we need to recruit players into the team who at least have SOME ability. Tim McRae, Phil Cunningham and Chris Griffin showed that the have still got it however they were sadly lacking support. Thanks to those oldies who played and we look forward to next season s game down at Dunkeld with a considerably re-vamped team!
In closing, we have just received confirmation that David Warner has been given a role with Circus Oz and you guessed it as a clown! See you in the front row at the circus. Yours in Cricket, Red Cap Ronnie
