Hertfordshire Disability Netball Festival 2015 On Saturday 11 th July 2015, we invited adults with Learning Disabilities who joined us at Hertfordshire Sports Village to partake in an annual Netball Festival. With the sun shining and big smiles the day kicked off with an Introduction by Janice Cook, Chair of Hertfordshire County Netball Association and Rebecca Gray, Hertfordshire NDO. The group were then split in to three teams and sent off to an activity station which included; Crazy Catch, Shooting, Passing in groups and Targets. Each team collected the points for every station on every successful catch, shot, pass or target hit. The teams included a mixture of Special Olympics- St Albans and Leisure Direct- North Herts, with 20 participants overall. With 10 minutes at each station, Claire- Leisure Direct Group leader said It s great to see the participants get the chance to improve at the different activity stations. After a quick break to refuel, the teams then went head to head in matches. Each team played each other in 10 minute halves. The competition was very tough with some fantastic netball skills and great goals being scored. At the end of the games the scores were added on to the overall score of the teams activity scores. The presentation was then led by Janice Cook with the overall winners The Supersonics walking away with gold medals and a trophy. All participants received a medal and certificate, and 5 participants were awarded Team player of the day by the umpires and walked away with a special medal. Rebecca Gray said I ve always had a passion for Disability Sport ever since I studied a module at University, when I started this job I was thrilled to be able to be involved in Disability Netball. It is very rewarding as the participants love being involved and enjoy being in a team with their friends. It s great to see an improvement in the participants by the end of the session and the happiness as they receive their certificates and medals of achievement. We currently run 4 sessions in Hertfordshire with organised groups including Dacorum Mencap and Special Olympics, and I m always looking to develop new sessions in different areas. If you would like to get involved in Disability Netball please contact Rebecca.Gray@englandnetball.co.uk o07525 703 153

Hertfordshire Mums and Girls Netball Roadshow 2015 Throughout August, the Herts Mums & Girls Netball Roadshow travelled across the county to 6 different venues delivering fun netball games, ball skills and drills to females of all ages and abilities! We travelled between Hemel Hempstead, Stevenage and Ware, as well as Abbots Langley, Baldock and Bovingdon. It was great to see so many people enjoying playing netball, at Bovingon Primary School we had 21 participants joining in undeterred by the rain that day! We wanted to provide a way for mums to participate in netball alongside their daughters, nieces, sisters etc, over the summer months and it sat perfectly with the current Sport England This Girl Can Campaign and the England Netball Big Summer of Netball. At the sessions, we practised various skills including footwork, passing, moving and shooting, but the main emphasis was to have fun! All the venues we visited currently have Back to Netball sessions so it was also a great way to introduce new women to what is on offer for them on their doorstep. At some of the sessions, participants were given goodies from England Netball sponsor Mrs Crimbles. Thank you to all those who came, and also to those who helped promote the roadshow!
