Great Started Here 45 Years Ago January 5, 1970 Thursday, January 15 @ 8PM It's the fiftieth anniversary of the worst air disaster in Kansas history. A KC-135 Air Force tanker loaded with 31,000 gallons of jet fuel had just taken off from McConnell Air Force Base on a routine mission. Four minutes into the flight it plunged into an African-American neighborhood in north Wichita, sending a torrent of fuel and fire into homes. The crash killed entire families and incinerated an entire city block leaving 30 people dead. This program includes stories never before told, including interviews with a man who had just recently discovered his father died in the crash, and family members of the crew. Starting Monday, January 26 @ 9PM Follow author/reporters Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn and celebrity activists Malin Akerman, Mia Farrow, Ronan Farrow, Jennifer Garner, Regina Hall, Ashley Judd, Blake Lively, Eva Longoria, and Alfre Woodard to Colombia, Haiti, Kenya, and throughout the United States as they explore the roots of gender inequality, the devastating impact of poverty and the ripple effects that follow including sex trafficking, teen pregnancy, genderbased violence, and child slavery. In their travels, they meet with inspiring activists who are creating effective solutions to gender-based oppression, transforming lives and providing a roadmap for sustainable future change. Le Nozze di Figaro Friday, January 16 @ 8PM Ben Franklin s Bones Wednesday, January 28 @ 9PM Met music director James Levine conducts a spirited new production of Mozart s masterpiece, directed by Richard Eyre, who sets the action of this classic domestic comedy in an 18thcentury manor house in Seville during the 1930s. Dashing bass-baritone Ildar Abdrazakov leads the cast in the title role of the clever servant, opposite Marlis Petersen as his bride, Susanna, Peter Mattei as the philandering count they work for, Amanda Majeski as the long-suffering countess and Isabel Leonard as the libidinous pageboy, Cherubino. When skeletal remains of at least 10 people, including several infants, turned up in the basement of Benjamin Franklin s British residence, people wondered if the Founding Father might have had a much darker side, as the bones had been meticulously cut and drilled. Franklin was aware of the bodies in his basement, but they weren t the victims of violent acts. Rather, they were used for the purposes of an illegal anatomy school that helped shaped modern medicine. It's Time to Celebrate!
