3 INTRODUCTION Brembo is a world leader in the design, development and production of braking systems and components for cars, motorbikes, industrial vehicles and machinery, for the OE market, after-market and racing. The Group has recently branched out into the design and production of passive safety systems. Brembo guarantees the utmost safety and comfort and improved product performance thanks to process integration and optimisation of the entire production cycle, from the initial design and cast-iron or aluminium casting to assembly, testing and simulations on the bench, track and road. Brembo s constant quest for innovation calls for new technologies, new materials, new shapes and new markets; product performance is accompanied by the search for a unique style in line with the design of the equipped vehicles. Research at Brembo is conducted at the Research & Development Centre, which has also been involved since 2002 in mechatronics, a border science that combines mechanics, electronics and informatics. The increasing application of ecocompatible technologies, recycling of all materials used in the production process and systematic prevention of all forms of pollution all bear witness to Brembo s commitment to safeguarding the environment. 4 FORMULA STUDENT/SAE CATALOGUE Since it first made its appearance in the world of racing in the mid 70 s, Brembo has proven to be a key partner for drivers and the most prestigious teams which, with its brakes, have won a great number of World Championships in various Motorsport categories. This is the spirit with which the Formula Student/SAE is conceived, a catalogue that wants to be the starting point when choosing the braking system for light race cars. This document comes from the experience Brembo has gained over the years on the track, on and off the road and from what has already been experienced in the past by teams of formula Student/SAE. The catalogue consists of a selection of products for cars, motorcycles, from Original Equipment and racing already in production and adaptable to a wide variety of design requirements, with an excellent balance between quality, performance and price. To facilitate the selection of the pieces, in addition to the product code, to be reported during purchase, technical drawings and additional information useful to design were included. 28 BRAKE PADS The compounds used normally in braking system are classifiable in just two families, ORGANIC and SINTERED. Sintered materials are metallic powders mixed with lubricants and abrasive agents in such a way as to produce a compound that is solidified by compacting even at high temperatures. The metal powders determine the braking power of the pad at high temperature. Organic materials are composed mainly of resin binders, metal, lubricants and abrasive. In this instance the friction coefficient is generated by metals and resins, with the lubricants and abrasives performing the functions as mentioned above. Usually sintered brake pads have higher average friction coefficient than organics and keep more stable at high temperatures. 30 BRAKE FLUIDS LCF 600 PLUS P/N LCF 600 PLUS BRAKE FLUID - 500cc Exclusively for racing use Brembo Racing LCF 600 plus has been specifically formulated to provide the highest performance under all racing conditions: an indipendently proven low compressibility at high temperatures a typical dry boiling point of 601 F (316 C) a typical wet boiling point of 399 F (204 C) It even exceeds the requirements of U.S. FMVSS 116 DOT4 specification. COMPATIBILITY Compatible with all Brembo Racing Brake Systems. It can be mixed with other DOT3 and DOT4 racing brake fluids but for maximum performance advantage, before filling, other types of fluid should be drained from the brake system to avoid diluting the flid characteristic. Thus, Brembo shall not have any liability whatsoever in connection with Client s failure to comply with the instructions and/or in connection with their inappropriate and/or incorrect installation on vehicles and/or with the lack of and/or incorrect maintenance of such products, nor shall any Product Liability apply in such cases. Brembo S.p.A. declines any kind of liabilities in relation to any possible products malfunctions and/or in relation to any different performance caused by a wrong choice and/or a wrong evaluation made by the Client. Furthermore, Brembo S.p.A. declines any other liabilities for any kind of possible damage that could, directly or indirectly, derive to people or things, as a consequence of the wrong choice made by the Client, or as a consequence of the lack of conformity with the law of the regulations indicated in the documentation and in the use and maintenance manual, regarding, in particular, the installation, use and maintenance of products notices (if available). BREMBO S RACING PRODUCTS Please also consider that products identified as Brembo s racing products are designed and manufactured to be used exclusively in competitions and, therefore, shall not be used on public roads. Thus, Brembo shall not have any liability whatsoever in connection with the use of the products in violation of such limits and/or in connection with the normal wear and tear of such products, nor shall any Product Liability apply in such cases. Any alteration of or tampering with the racing products may endanger their safety and any guarantee (concerning both contractual and tortuous liability) given by Brembo S.p.A. in respect of the products will be terminated by any such alteration or tampering. The Clients acknowledge and accept that due to the particular operative and environmental conditions under which the racing products operate during competitions, such products may be subject to use under extreme conditions, which may exceed the project limits and control as set by Brembo. Thus, Brembo shall not have any liability whatsoever in connection with the use of the racing products under extreme conditions during the competitions, nor shall any Product Liability apply in such case. LIMITS TO CONTRACTUAL GUARANTEES FOR EACH PRODUCT Brembo guarantees that the products are manufactured with high quality materials and in accordance with the specifications provided by the Manufacturer. Should the Client notice either an apparent or a hidden defect, he shall communicate it in writing to Brembo within 8 (eight) days from the date of their delivery. The Client shall, at his own expense, deliver the defective products ex works BREMBO, in accordance with the instructions given by BREMBO. Only in case a defect has actually been ascertained by Brembo s quality control office, the defective parts of the products will be replaced. In any event, Brembo s liability, as well as the liability of its agents and/or distributors and/or any other brokers shall not exceed the sale price of the racing products. The guarantee does not apply in case the products have not been installed and maintained in accordance with the instructions. Brembo s liability does not exceed the limits set forth in this paragraph and no further guarantee, neither express nor implied, which may determine an extension of such liability, is hereby given. Except upon Brembo s express written authorization, none of its agents and/or distributors and/or other brokers are authorized to give further guarantees other than those provided for in the Sales Conditions. It should be observed that Brembo guarantees the materials produced by its suppliers within the limits of the guarantees given by such suppliers to Brembo. 33
